This lens size choices (diameter) differ from manufacturer to manufacture and from lens type to lens type. All lenses come in a wide range of powers to correct glasses prescription and to make the final postoperative prescription what ever the patient and doctor desire.
I just had a cataract removed 5 days ago and had a lens implant.I already see perfect BUT it almost seems like I can see the side of the lens or it is relecting light everytime i move my eye bottom left of eye.I wonder if the lens is too small or it was not positioned properly??Or will this go away after a while? Its driving me crazy, the doc who did the sergery is a 5 hour drive away.
@kodiak1966 Usually those type of symptoms go away within a few weeks but you should certainly call the surgeon and let him know. The man-made lens is much thinner than the natural one and it can jiggle a little in the capsular bag in the early post op period... Like a hand in a glove that is too big. Once the capsule shrinks and wraps itself around the lens the symptoms usually go away.
Cataract Surgery is performed to correct vision loss caused by cataract. It is very successful. Success rates are usually in the 95-98% range. The chances of being worse is probably less than 1 in every 500 cases. The chance of being completely blind after cataract surgery is even less than that.

I was born with cataracts as well and i had my lenes taken out at the time to, ever since then i have to wear these huge glasses to help me see. but the doctors tell me that they are going to sow the lenses in. is this the operation similar or is there another one i can look at.
Great Question. The surgery shown in the video is not the one your doctor proposes to do. I am sorry but I don't have an example of secondary intra-ocular lens procedure on Youtube yet. There are many different techniques to achieve what your doctor proposes.
I was born with cataracts in my eyes and my lenses were removed soon after. I wear glasses to correct my vision. Do you think I would be able to get this operation or is it only for people who have recently had cataract infected lenses removed?
If glasses or contacts help then the implant would likely help. But there are a lot of other factors for the surgeon and patient to consider....far beyond what can be discussed here. Ask your ophthalmologist!
The operation for people who have had their cataracts done in the past, but without an implant, is different. The lens implant usually isn't put in the capsular bag because with time the bag adheres to itself and cannot open years later. There are a few other options and some different kinds of lenses to use -- but those less common techniques aren't shown on this particular video
Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the world. In the US, usually there is a charge from the surgeon, the anesthetist, and the surgery center where the surgery is performed. Lens implants can cost as little as 10 dollars in some countries to 2000 or more for more sophisticated implants that can help one see distance and near without glasses.
It is fairly easy to numb the eye. So the patient doesn't feel much at all. Of course, different people have different levels of anxiety about surgery and working around the eye-so something is usually given to relax the patient. But general anesthesia, or breathing tubes for surgery are rare in the US.
Great Question. The microscope projects a light that is reflected from the back of the eye. This red reflex is similar to the red eye you sometimes see in a photograph. Here we use the red reflex to our advantage to help us see the structures inside the eye.
What the patiet sees depends on the anesthesia they receive. They don't see the eye from the outside as in the video. However, many say they an "interesting" or "psychadelic" light show of colors. Others see dull shadows swirling around. Others see nothing.
do all lens fit every eye or is there different size's? also is there a prescription in the lens corrected for the person need? thanks in advanced

By the way I'm nearly 30 now, is it still possible to have this operation done to make my vision clear again?

yes, could a patient cause the doctor to make an error
2363fate 2 years ago
can the procedure go wrong, on the patients part?
2363fate 2 years ago
Are you asking if a patient could do something during the procedure to negatively affect outcome?
