If it was America vs Russia directly Russia would have definatly won. The war with the Germans cost them far more lives and resources then the Americans and without Russia the Allies would have never won WOII ;)

US had a far more developed industry and commerce, and then combine it with the British Empire's colonial strenth (resources). Maybe USSR could have occupied continental europe, but a landing in Britain and the US wa simpossible or them.... Not to mention the american nuclear technology. Russia acquired that as late as 1949.
