Velitopterix: great post. Not all the solar energy which strikes this planet is used. Huge amounts are stored in the first metres of the ground and the sea. Ground source heat pumps, GSHP, use, in round figures, 1 kilowatt of electricity to produce 3 kw of heating. If you reverse the process to provide cooling, it will be energy efficient cooling, and you will return the heat extracted from the building to the ground for use in Winter. Tulsa Uni, OK, has a department studying GSHP. Go Google!

He took a $12,000/yr job as a community organizer in Chicago as he came out of Harvard Law School. He was Editor of the Harvard Law Review, which means he could have made a fortune after graduating like much of his classmates did. But he took a job as a community organizer in Chicago, offering help to families that had lost their jobs from steel plants closing. He knows all about it

We also need a gridwork of biodiesel plants throuout the midwest, and available biodiesel low cost cars. This would help farmers, biodiesel plants, truckers- not foreighn vessels!!!! no more oik spills on the oceans!

Hey erm I read in magazines that the biofuel thing can't really work cos well this means that u need to chop down more trees for farmlands. And you have higher demand for these plants used to get fuel/ethanol. This usually means higher food prices and that's not good cos our food prices are already rising. So I'd say no to biofuels.

GOOD ANSWER, but solar only works during the day and its inefficient to store that energy and wind turbines only work when it's windy, and are also not cost effective.

I believe they only way forward until we get hydrogen power sorted is Nuclear energy

I understand why you may think nuclear energy is the way to go, but you should realize that while nuclear energy seems to be a clean way to distribute huge amounts of energy, it is also a very dangerous answer to a problem that we have the capacity to solve more creatively. Nuclear energy is the one power source that simply CAN NOT have any accidents. It takes double the crew and 40 years just to close one down, and then there's the $64,000 question: What do you do with the spent nuclear fuel?

Solar energy can be converted into usable electricity. Add you are refering to coal and nuclear being where most of our electricity comes from.

They aren't mutually exclusive. Solar/Oil Plants are the way the energy is created, electric is the way it is transferred. So electric cars are better than regular cars even if you plug them into a grid that is powered by an oil power plant. Solar electric cars are best of all. Obama's plan funds both solar and electric.
