@venom3114 i had 2.5 on my 85 gsl with a racing beat muffler yu have to put sometype of muffler dont do a straight thru!! put a chrome one or something expecially if you have stock ports!
@rotarycorvette1. Thanks man, I have a stock ported 12a and I'm kinda new to this rotary thing, but they are fascinating! I think after the exhaust, I was going to tinker with the nikki carb. I need to save some money for the suspension...
holley carb new 300 bucks ford junk yard v8 carb 75 bucks
use the stock manifold.free
2 electric fan new or used!
fuel pump and regulator and you will be hauling ass the cheap way like i did with my gsl for less than 400 dollars now i have fd so everything is expencive with those mods my car was doing 14 flat and 13.9
is your engine standard port? Iv got a 12a extend port in my series 1. I need to get a bit more out of it should i work the standard nikki carb or just get a weber setup?
Question. How long does it take to warm up these engines? And how hard is it to start in the cold? I live in Anchorage and they are selling a few first gens up here. I'm thinking about getting one. But need to know if they are reliable cars or not :)
mine starts right up in the winter...and i live in BC...you guys are a bit colder but with the right oil and coolant im sure it would be fine !!!...great cars if taken care of !
ok I was told the 2nd gen is better then the 1st gen. can you clarify why? Or do you know? Or is there a reason why, maby lighter, or what not, or is it the engine? If it's the engine can't you just do an engine swap? sorry for the questions but i gotta know before I buy one.
Nice car man! I'm getting one pretty soon, carb is a whole new world for me but mazda been inside me for years ;). btw is the 12a fast? i read it does 0-60 on 9, pretty good for a slow revving engine such the 12a
12a's can be very quick N/A cars if you do the work. Mine was making 132RWHP from a large street port and 44mm Mikuni Side drafts.
They rev slow because of the huge ass flywheel, but if it wasn't for that flywheel they would be nearly impossible to drive on the street as a regular car.
That is double barrel kit or a dual car kit, hard to see from back, also i did not see the air horns that i had on mine. Were they not installed or was something different put in place? Also car sounded sweet, i love 1st Gen's. My desire is to have 2 of them 1 naturally aspirated then another with a 20B 100% but street legal(streetable is not important). Dig the car car.
I thought 1985 rx7's had EFI?

Do you think 2.5 inches in diameter on a 12a is over kill on a straight pipe exhaust?
How did the 12a feel when you put the 2.25 inch diameter exhaust on?

the 2nd gen is better 'mechanically'. but honestly i prefer the first gen because the 2nd has very little soul compared to first gen
thunkrd 3 years ago
yeah. They are selling a 13A first gen up here in Anchorage. Black, 5 spd. 100% working. for like 2k. So I'm thinking about getting it
Fallingup899 3 years ago
its actually a 13b... but good find. mine didn't work when I got it. had to replace water pump.. once i did that the car ran well :)
