I like your dehydrator. I too have one is an electric one. If you go electric, I do recommend a NESCO Professional Food and Jerky dehydrator. It works really nicely.
Sur Doc, you are awesome! First and foremost, thanks so much for all the videos you take time to make and edit. Please keep them coming! I have a question, how old are your apple trees and what kind are they? I cannot believe you got ALL those apples off of just 2 trees. What a fun video! Thanks for sharing!
@malinadarling That's nothing. I haven't even begun to get all the apples. When you look at the trees you can hardly tell that I have picked any. I planted them a few years ago and don't remember the varieties. I know I planted either dwarf or semi-dwarf. They are actually more of a cooking variety than an eating raw variety, although you can eat them of course. I ordered them from Stark Bros. in MO who I have been very happy with.
@thenewsurvivalist That is just amazing! I never would have guessed that dwarf or semi dwarf apple trees could grow that large or produce that much fruit. Does any of it go to waste or have you found ways to use all of it? Such a great video! Thanks again for sharing! ~Malina
@malinadarling I have a hard time using all the fruit. This is a busy time of the year. I sell some of the fruit from my front yard (self-serve pay on your honor, no one ever cheats me!.) I also give it to my neighbors and tell them to pick their own. I juice it when it becomes overripe and can the juice. And there is plenty left on the ground for the deer. The deer love fermented apples (the probably catch a buzz.) I have a crossbow (I live in the city) & may harvest some deer some day WTSHTF.
@katzcradul I have mosquito netting that I can drape over them. However, I don't use it because I haven't had a problem. I don't get bent out of shape over the occasional fly--much less hazardous than the hundreds of deadly chemicals they are adding to our store-bought food and municipal water. Give me fly any day over that! Anyway, I am probably going to use those to feed my rabbits over the winter anyway.
@Imaroughboy2 I assembled it from a kit I ordered back in 1982. I've never made my own. I have seen them tough and it is pretty simple. I even say a Youtube video about making one.
GREAT idea to juice the peelings and cores! Also, I am considering raising rabbits in the future, and drying them in the sun for rabbit feed is a great idea as well. Better than just throwing it in the compost bin. Thanks.
Great video and perfect timing. My wife and I just got 2 buckets of apples off my mother in laws land. I'm also glad you showed the peeler. We found one just like it but had some issues and ended up doing it by hand. After seeing yours in use it appears we are missing a piece.
can u put the scraps around the plant so it will decompose and the plant can take the nutrients

@buttkickingmiget Better to put the scraps in a compost heap and let it rot there first, then put it under the tree or in your garden.

How do you keep the flies off the apples drying in the sun on the bread trays?
