@guy thatblowsstuffup, u probably just killed this kid or ur self with that b.s. your spouting. It is absolutely not true. This contraption is deadly. Statistically, certified divers with properly functioning gear stand a greater chance of injury while playing golf than underwater. But this, this is suicide.
Good try. But you are going to die or get DCS if you keep trying this crap. Can't blame the dive master. You will get hurt bad if your not careful, you go any deeper than that pool and you wish like he'll you'd listens to him. Go get certified. You can make a payment plan with some instructors.
do you really need the regulator and i have read the description too but im still scared i know 5 or 6 feet tops and not to ascend with a full breath but any other tips too im still timid
By now you have probably gotten plenty tips and DIVING SAFETY dog-outs (and you should, we are loosely-tightly caring community....and hate to see another make fatal errors.....personally I have lost 4 co-workers to dive accidents....it can happen very quickly and its agonizing).
I have a surface air consumption rate of of about 15 psi on a 78 ft3 tank filled to 3000 psi. You have a one gallon tank filled to 68 psi which gives you about five gallons or 2/3 s of a cubic foot. at 68 psi. Assuming your surface air consumption rate is 15 psi interpolated to the five gallon 68 psi tank would mean that if you breathed from your device on the surface you are getting about 16 breaths. At 33 ft you get 8 breaths .But for god sakes keep that thing in the kiddy pool.
@redneckninja24 You are breathing compressed air at depth. Your invention although sketchy and limiting is delivering compressed air to your lungs. If you take a breath at a depth even as shallow as 4 to 6 feet and ascend without exhaling one of four maladies could happen. Pneumothorax, Sub cutaneous emphysema, mediastinal emphysema, or air embolism. You are obviously an intelligent and creative young man and God knows we need people like you around. Don't force air somewhere it should not be.
While I do enjoy viewing homemade ideas, and your project was very interesting and creative, it still is a death trap. I have to insist that this or any homemade scuba not be recreated or attempted. It is a known fact that before there was scuba classes a diver had a 46% death rate. There is a lot more to breathing underwater than what you have figured out so far. The most dangerous part of the dive is in the first 33 feet of water. Please take a scuba class from a dive shop!!!!!
You are at the exact same risk of injuring a lung with this as you are with an actual scuba set up. Great video I'm going to try to make one. P.S. Where do you go to get the valve for regulating air flow?
a full breath of air taken down as little as 1/5th of an atmosphere (6ft) underwater and held while you assent will pop your lungs and you wont even realize it until you caugh up blood and get a brain hemmorage. Important things like this are the reason people undergo dive training so they don't kill themselves...be careful kid..
Hey man. Nice idea. I built my own without the regulator and it works great. I extended the length of the hose so that the tank could float on the water and it works very well! I can get 4-5 full breaths of air in about 6ft of water. I used a 3 gallon tank instead of a 2 gallon tank. It does become a pain haiving to pump it up so I might experiment with a hookah rig next. Great idea though thanks!
yer well i asked my parents if i could do it they were a bit hesadent then i sugested if i could use the air compresuure i hooked hose and snorkel up works awsome i can stay un water far life 15 min on the gauge i pump it up to about 120 psi
Hey man thats a pretty bad idea there haha, I considered that route myself but deemed it too unsafe. Air compressors that aren't medical or scuba quality will put oil into the air, and if you are going to use this, get an inline air filter and a god damn good regulator, but man I wouldn't do it.
thanks for the advice i ave decided to stop experamenting i have looked into scuba courses and my mum has scuba dived and she has her opens licence so i will soon get equipment and licence thank you for the advice..
Hey man thats def not needed, that regulator I added wasn't really needed but I found that out after I built it. The squeeze nozzle actually took care of that, as I got deeper I would just squeeze a little harder. I'd love to see your build!
Oh okay. hey how does the hose hold up the the water pressure? I'll try to get a pic on here soon, i'm guessing that with my model ill be able to stay under for at least 10 or 15 minutes. it will also have a psi gauge so i can watch my air supply.
Yea I'm really into it, saving up for real gear right now. There are a lot more dangerous things than scuba, but I think being an astronaut would be a blast, so if its for sure safe its not worth doing. Scuba is an awesome sport. The hardest thing about the setup was trying to keep my breathing air at ambient pressure, but my biggest concern wasn't overpressure of my lungs, but the quality of breathing crap air.
Ok, I am one of those safety dive freaks, but rather then bitch, I would rather tell you how to keep it safer. The ONLY 2 things that worry me, is over pressurizing and blowing your lungs out AND air embolism. If you go down 12ft on compressed air and come straight up without exhaling the compressed air you can die or get major lung damage. Otherwise everything is fine...Your lungs can compress A LOT but can not over expand.. That swing rope to go in the water is more dangerous then your rig!
Great job! Don't make the tank heavier, just get a weight belt. I'm a long time diver, and I'm not too worried about the safety of this. If you like it, save your money and buy some used real scuba equipment. It'll be a whole lot better. Have fun and don't be put off by those that freak out about the safety of it.
I was wondering how do you use it and what exact tank you were using

"...but my biggest concern wasn't overpressure of my lungs, but the quality of breathing crap air..."
Forget air quality, lung pressure IS your main concern.
The last 10ft-15ft to the surface, you have to be the most careful not to hold your breath (this is where you're diving).
Divers have died in swimming pools in less than 10ft of water, by holding their breath.

Haha I know, I'm no fool tho! I had that situation under control.
