Let's look at the field realistically. The other plausible candidates are AG (and former governor from the 70s) Jerry Brown and Dianne Feinstein, who probably won't run. But if she did, neither of Newsom's likely opponents would better serve an updated economy and housing market. California has serious problems--Southern California has one of the worst economies in the country at the moment due to the housing collapse. So far, Newsom seem's pretty reasonable and up to the task.

It is like oil and water. ... 50 years ago, S.F. was a Republican city that was clean. Now it is a run down piss hole because hippies and "progressives" moved there, and real S.F. people moved out. Nearly everyone in the city wasn't born in the bay area, and many are just there for a free ride off of taxpayers or are there for the low life culture that the hippies brought in.

DiFi, in my opinion, would be crazy to run now that the Democrats have complete control in Washington, not to mention her chairmanship of the Intelligence committee. She's got a pretty powerful seat too in terms of appropriations. She really brings home the bacon for CA. That really just leaves Brown, and Newsom knows it. The only reason Brown ran for AG was to set up this run in 2010. He'll be the toughest to beat in the field...

This guy is in a distant fourth...he's being beaten by Villaraigosa who hasn't even declared, then by DiFi, and finally in first place he'll have Jerry Brown to contend with. The way I see it, Villaraigosa is not going to run, he doesn't have the money and he won't be able to raise anymore if he's going to run for re-election later this year. Theres no way he can fundraise enough by early 2010 when the primary will start.

Let's look at the field realistically. The other plausible candidates are AG (and former governor from the 70s) Jerry Brown and Dianne Feinstein, who probably won't run. But if she did, neither of Newsom's likely opponents would better serve an updated economy and housing market. California has serious problems--Southern California has one of the worst economies in the country at the moment due to the housing collapse. So far, Newsom seem's pretty reasonable and up to the task.
