That is NOT what a hot spot is. A hot spot is an area of irradiated magma underneath the Earth's crust. This radiation causes the magma to become much hotter than the surrounding magma, giving it more power and energy, ultimately creating a volcano. Sheesh.  For example, a hot spot is what created the Hawaiian Islands.
