  • There is only one Les Dawsdon. There will never be another.

    Sadly missed.

  • He looks fairly cheesed off. This was broadcast live, so there was no time to express any reservations about it off-camera.

  • @TheDiddlysquat I dont agree actually, if you are a musician it takes more concentration to actually play badly. I studied keyboards etc, if you cant play at all then of course you would play badly, but to be brilliant musician as he was and to suddenly go off key and play badly would actually take more concentration. He didnt just use any old keys either, but keys around the chord sequences in the wrong places to make it sound bad. Would be funny if you was a musician to n we argue point.

  • This is your life was the 1970s version of Twitter... oh f*ck twitter

  • @TheDiddlysquat On the contrary. You have to be a very good musician to play that badly.

  • HELP! Where can I find "This is Your Life" with Barbara Eden? Please send me a private message

  • Very funny guy.

  • Brilliantly funny - saw him as a teenager in Scarborough, liked a whisky...as soon as show finished we saw him come out of stage door and go to pub across road with a couple of other people. Read both autobiographies which were great.

  • No, Les looks genuinely shocked by being "caught" by Eamonn Andrews and his facial expressions throughout this clip shows that he is uncomfortable with the situation.

  • It's great that his wife's got her handbag with her.

  • He was a "victim" twice. Michael Aspel had him on This is your life again 21 years later, in 1992. It was broadcast six months before he died. Perhaps he feels uncomfortable discussing his early life or other people knowing about it.

  • dont think he wants his life read out by looks of his face.

  • Love Les but I think he was tipped off because he looked "astonished" a second b4 he looked behind him and saw who it was1 lol

    Look closely at the start!

  • One of the greatest ever comedians, Sadley Missed!

  • Loved the man one of the best ever taken far too soon.Best piano player ever lol

  • Thank you Les for being in my life...something your wife would never say!!

deeply missed along with Party Sevens and Hai Karate!!

  • I'm 52, I saw Les in the 1970's in Newquay, he was at the threatre there in a show, I think it was 1976 or 1979. I have never laughed so much before or since. He was wonderful. He is missed so much.

  • they dont make programmes like that anymore what a shame!

  • This is great stuff! Have you got anymore of this?

  • That wink at 7.16..... say no more Mr. Dawson thats why you remain with me :-)

  • Enjoy good old fashioned entertainment at oldfartschannel. Bob and Rob show how to save money using coupons. Fun for the whole family.

  • hughie green was a real shithouse......according to people in the business.

  • @jumpdance24 Yes, he had an affair with a friend's wife and she had his baby who turned out to be Paula Yates.

  • Show me a man who would tire of hitting Hughie Green over the head with a fire extinguisher, I`ll show you man tired of life!

  • ...take my mother in law for instance...please...!!

  • One of the worlds best comedy stand ups and writers of the last, our and many generations to come and Sadly missed.

  • RIP Les D - LEGEND

  • Les is such a comic!

  • modern comedy is p.c shite,coltsuperocean......

  • Its a good job comedy has improved since the 70s!! His wife said it all "Its embarrasing".

  • haha he looks like a man being led away to his eventual execution

  • Classic..Les Dawson is Much Missed

  • No won could play a piano like Les so funny

  • @thestigg01 oh yes def, he bril piano player. to play badly when you can play well it actually very hard

  • I used to love all the bongos and percussion and stuff in the title music.

  • so missed, our 1st n best 'National treasure' r.i.p Les...

  • Read his books. He is a truly brilliant creator of words, and is so original. The bit in one of his books about his down and out life in Paris, if it is true, is sublime.

  • aww loved him ...seen him in a panto in the liverpool empire must of been 7! im 40 in july ..x x

  • Happy Birthday

  • such a sweet moment when he opens the present, you could almost forgive him for his hair cut ,even taking the 70's into account.

  • This brings back such sweet childhood memories. Our family huddled around the only TV we had back then ... laughing together! Remember when homes had only one TV???

  • TIYL used to be great, even when Eamonn Andrews died it was still good with Michael Aspel. Before they started surprising the no-marks.

  • Is it just me or,does he really look uncomfortable?

  • im not surprised the way he's man handled to his seat

  • les dawson a very very funny man sadly missed by all. sadly they broke the mould when he was born because you won't see greats like him ever again......

  • Just BloodY Great!

His like sadly are no more. One reason I have not had a TV for years.

  • Didnt Les Dawson get the red book twice

  • he dosent look to be enjoying the surprise...

  • Brilliant!!! thanks for this

  • Thank you for posting this. It's great to see it again. Les Dawson was, and always will be, my favourite comedian. If anyone would like to see some video clips of his characters 'Cissie and Ada' then have a look at Gorlestonguy on YouTube.

  • good old les. i use to laugh my head off at him when i was a kid.if his shows was replayed on tv. i would watch them all.

  • Did Les Dawson appear on this is your life with Michael Aspel just before his death

  • I loved Les, when i was younger i wanted him to play his piano for a full hour.

  • Great to see this - thanks for posting...

  • Excellent entertainment shiveringgoat.

Don't suppose you have the remainder?

  • Ahh bless his wife Meg i loved how she walks on with her handbag (like they had no where safe for her to keep it lol) and dressed like shes just about to go shopping lol , how times have changed , they (according to biographies) were very happily married

    Such a funny man

  • Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Les Dawson on Surprise Surprise from 1993> it was his last tv appearance, and he sang i got you babe with a woman from the audience?

  • Bloody HELL ! What a find ! Its from a right bygone age isnt it ? I can remember 1971 but not like THIS- seems so old ; how many dead men are in this ?! Hughie boy ! " i mean that most sincerely folks !" .R.I.P. Les, you were & are great
