@TheDiddlysquat I dont agree actually, if you are a musician it takes more concentration to actually play badly. I studied keyboards etc, if you cant play at all then of course you would play badly, but to be brilliant musician as he was and to suddenly go off key and play badly would actually take more concentration. He didnt just use any old keys either, but keys around the chord sequences in the wrong places to make it sound bad. Would be funny if you was a musician to n we argue point.
Brilliantly funny - saw him as a teenager in Scarborough, liked a whisky...as soon as show finished we saw him come out of stage door and go to pub across road with a couple of other people. Read both autobiographies which were great.
No, Les looks genuinely shocked by being "caught" by Eamonn Andrews and his facial expressions throughout this clip shows that he is uncomfortable with the situation.
He was a "victim" twice. Michael Aspel had him on This is your life again 21 years later, in 1992. It was broadcast six months before he died. Perhaps he feels uncomfortable discussing his early life or other people knowing about it.
I'm 52, I saw Les in the 1970's in Newquay, he was at the threatre there in a show, I think it was 1976 or 1979. I have never laughed so much before or since. He was wonderful. He is missed so much.
Read his books. He is a truly brilliant creator of words, and is so original. The bit in one of his books about his down and out life in Paris, if it is true, is sublime.
This brings back such sweet childhood memories. Our family huddled around the only TV we had back then ... laughing together! Remember when homes had only one TV???
les dawson a very very funny man sadly missed by all. sadly they broke the mould when he was born because you won't see greats like him ever again......
Thank you for posting this. It's great to see it again. Les Dawson was, and always will be, my favourite comedian. If anyone would like to see some video clips of his characters 'Cissie and Ada' then have a look at Gorlestonguy on YouTube.
Ahh bless his wife Meg i loved how she walks on with her handbag (like they had no where safe for her to keep it lol) and dressed like shes just about to go shopping lol , how times have changed , they (according to biographies) were very happily married
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Les Dawson on Surprise Surprise from 1993> it was his last tv appearance, and he sang i got you babe with a woman from the audience?
Bloody HELL ! What a find ! Its from a right bygone age isnt it ? I can remember 1971 but not like THIS- seems so old ; how many dead men are in this ?! Hughie boy ! " i mean that most sincerely folks !" .R.I.P. Les, you were & are great
There is only one Les Dawsdon. There will never be another.
Sadly missed.

He looks fairly cheesed off. This was broadcast live, so there was no time to express any reservations about it off-camera.
