  • Oscar said Big Bird is part homing pigeon? lol maybe a 8 foot pigeon :D

  • 3:28 terrified me when i was a kid

  • omg that part when santa claus' shadow slowly creeps up over big bird in the silence and he wakes up with no one there used to scare the hell out of me when i was a kid

  • @cthunishere14 omg it scared me too, and the creepy music didn't help either, it just made it more scary

  • The part with Santa disappearing like that always struck me as both magical and terribly frightening as a child...

  • after all of these years of watching I'm 15 years old and for the first time I notice Santas shadow. I'm scared of Santa now lol. he's like another holy spirit.

  • Poor Big Bird...but that's just like it is...older kids will tell the younger ones all kinds of things and they believe it. Oscar was like the bully older brother to little brother Big Bird.

Also, Oscar ALWAYS had a different relationship with Maria than he had with the other humans. That's his "Skinny". She can do and say things to him that no one else would be able to get away with. And also, only a REAL friend would call you out on your ish the way Maria did with Oscar.

  • He must have been cold Cold COLD!!!!!!!!!!

  • big bird has feathers, silly! birds can withstand amazing enviromental conditions! ask the geese swimming in the half-froze pond,or the penguin, who knows no different!

  • Could someone please tell me why big bird wasn't wearing a coat and scarf at least?

  • If Mr.Rogers was in this show he would help look for big bird

  • Imagine, if you will, a strange man in a red suit who visits every home in the world on a single night. You think you see him out of the corner of your eye, only to find he's not actually there. A man so not there that he doesn't even leave any footprints in the snow. Some say he's only a figment of your imagination, but know that he IS real. Santa Claus does indeed exist. And he exists ONLY... in the Sesame Street Zone. ;)

  • Poor Maria

  • Poor Oscar

  • Poor Big Bird

  • I luv it when oscar says that too

  • 7:34 Here we go again!

  • @JackoB716 Oh, Boy!

  • 2:38 Oscar: "Cmon, hurry up, Skinny!"

    I love that

  • @CaptMARNEY LOL

  • Oscar got TOLD!

Who was afraid Big Bird would actually freeze to death? Or found Santa creeping up on him kinda creepy?

  • OMG, I love how Maria just chews Oscar out big time! Love it!

  • @gothgurl81 YOU TELL HIM, MARIA!!!!!!

  • WHAT A DREAM I JUST HAD!!!!!!!!!

  • @ThomasDeCosteTV ME 2!!!!!!

  • I was scared of that scene, too, when I was little! Something about the creepy music and the shadow and the icicles on Big Bird's beak just freaked me out. I'm 26 and I still shivered!

  • oscar sounds like jack nicholson...

  • lol. i always loved oscar calling maria "skinny"

  • "I think I froze my Giblets"

  • 3:30-4:10 is so magical....

  • What if... He's stacked over Kennedy? XD

  • This is how I remember Sesame Street from when I was a kid. And it's also one of the sets of scenes I remember best.

  • one of the most underated christmas special that never get to be seen why dont know tired of its a wonderful life and scrooge

  • 2 Months, 9 Weeks, 74 Days Till Christmas.

  • 3 months till christmas.

  • I always remember seeing Big Bird alone and cold on the roof. It was really sad...

I also always remember seeing Cookie Monster after he ate the Christmas Tree! XP

  • Oscar's saying Old Oscar at 2:45. This is similar to that character of Jay Jay the Jet Plane.

  • He's part homing pigeon?

  • I Still Can't Wait For Christmas.

  • Okay so did this used to SCARE anyone when they were kids? Omg at 3:20 on! I used to be SOOO scared! This show made me afraid of santa LOL! A freaky shadow, and then "No footprints in the snow!" CREEPY!

  • @iluye i was also incredibly frightened!! i hated seeing santas shadow and hearing the snow crunch underneath his feet. ick that scene was just creepy

  • I Still Can't Wait Till Christmas, 140 More Days Till Christmas.

  • Wow... Even Oscar cared about Big Bird... Is the world coming to an end?

  • lol, omg, lamo.

  • No. It's Gordan that yells Big Bird

  • I hope his jiblets are alright

  • What a gorgeous piece of music from 5:21 - 6:00

  • Well at least the Easter Bunny comes during spring which is a lot warmer. But he never has had a traditional way of entering the homes though.

  • Oscar did like to call Maria Skinny

  • Oscar the grouch is like Archie Bunker.

  • he froze what now

  • his giblets lol which is kind of weird cause thats considered teh edible part of the bird :P

  • I <3 love Maria, OMFG!

  • 2:27-2:29 Maria: "So what are you gonna do about it?!"

  • Is that Mr. Hooper who screams Big Bird at 1:09?

  • god i can't wait for christmas 2009.

  • Aww, I remember being so sad when everyone was looking for Big Bird. Poor thing was alone, covered with snow, and had an icicle on his beak and everything. And when Gordon carried Patty in when Big Bird came down to warm up... Ah the memories!

  • Maria gave that her A+ performance. Hehe.

  • Gordon has an INTENSE stache.

  • He froze his giblets...

  • Whoops posted twice. My bad guys.

  • Let's just get one thing straight- Santa Clause is like God- No one is supposed to see how he performs his miracles! Just be glad he does!

  • You tear apart the baby's rattle & see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest man that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance can push aside that curtain & view & picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real & abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives, & he lives forever.

  • @jtm101583 That's exactly it. Believing in Santa Claus is like believing in Jesus and God, or any religious figure. It's a matter of faith.

  • @jtm101583 I Will

  • haha giblets

  • @arghzombies LOL

  • haha oscar is awesome ,lol love the whining from the grown woman

  • You Goooo Maria!

  • I thought that when Big Bird sleeps, he puts hes beak in his chest

  • What a sneak, that Maria! How did she know Oscar was being such an a-hole after all that time?

  • It's possible Patty or Kermit might have told her while they were looking for Big Bird.

  • I think Patty told Maria about it. Susan's holding her right in front of Maria just before she goes to Oscar to confront him about it, so it was most likely Patty in a deleted scene.

Incidentally, how come Patty never appeared again?

  • Maria knows all...

  • It seemed appropriate to watch this on Christmas morning. Just like I used to.

    Merry Christmas, everyone.

  • You're crazy!!

  • for calling Oscar a dick! he's a Grouch! Grouches are supposed to behave like Oscar does

  • Even after he says sorry, Oscar is still evil! It's just not Sesame Street without Oscar!

  • He's not evil, just grouchy!

  • Comment removed

  • @shadowwolfz they do not act like dicks!! If they did they wouldn't care about anyone but themselves and Oscar definitely cares about way more than just himself

  • Classic, thanks for posting!

I watched this so many times as a kid.

That part with Santa "stalking" Big Bird on the roof always creeped me out...

  • What the heck is a giblet? Is it something a bird has? Someone please respond,

  • The organs of a bird are giblets.

  • Boy, that served Oscar right! Even after a sore neck, he still keeps on a-spewin'. Maria was starting to crack at the end. Does this grouch ever learn? Oh well.

  • you tell him maria! I hope the only person who doesn't get any presants is Oscar

  • melissa: He doesn't want any. It's a grouch paradox in that he likes trash, rain, mud, and other "yucky" things, but yet, if he gets those things, he's happy & he HATES happiness, because he's a grouch!

  • *head explodes*

  • giblets...?

  • How is that possible, the shadow was still looming over Big Bird when his eyes flung open. Either Santa turned invisible or he was hallucinating.

  • Holy hallucination!

  • Santa is magic, so he can't be seen

  • Maria confronts Oscar during the search for Big Bird.

  • Big Bird, you can't stay out in the cold and snowy weather all night on Christmas Eve, you'll freeze to death.

  • Big Bird snoring sounds like Donald, did Clarence "Ducky" Nash provide it?

  • I think that Patti can be heard saying "Big Bird! Please come home!", just as Big Bird begins to snore.

  • your right

  • I remember this film a lot and your right she can

  • and WHERE is the last song??? I dont think it was the same as "true blue miracle" was it??

  • Let's teach kids to break into people's home and drag them out to the street in the cold. That's what Maria just did.

  • One question: What does Big Bird mean to say that Santa might be "stacked over Kennedy?"

Yes, Oscar DOES have a good side...he just rarely shows it!

  • The stacked over kennedy comment has to do with airplanes getting held up in the airspace over the airport.

  • CrazyJustin: Yeah. Sesame Street is IN New York, so Kennedy must a big time New York air strip.

  • hehe not a very kid friendly joke then isnt I wonder if younger kids ever asked that question

  • yeah, it's sort of a new york joke because sesame street was and still is filmed in new york city and kenedy is a major airport here.

  • auburn:

"One question: What does Big Bird mean to say that Santa might be "stacked over Kennedy?"

He's actually saying "stuck over Kennedy." Meaning stuck over Kennedy airport. (Nowadays people mostly just call it "JFK").

  • In fact, he is saying "stacked" over Kennedy -- it's a term for when planes are waiting for clearance to land!

  • Sesame St was very NY-centric. As a former NY'er, I can't complan :)

  • anybody else notice the one bedroom light on the building going out at 4:04?

  • Who were the people calling Big Bird whil he was on the roof?

  • Patti, Mr. Hooper, and Oscar.

  • Who were the people asking Big Bird to come home? Were they Gordon & Patti?

  • I think Big Bird snores like Donald Duck.

  • Nice panoramic view of the tree and stockings. Though it would have been much better had Miles and Gabi been on the street at that time.

  • can you all believe miles is all grown up now? last I saw it he was helping elmo be in a band

  • Oscar sure can be very cruel indeed....I'm so glad that he went to help find Big Bird...

  • Probably becuase Maria made him they have a strange relationship, I think she interacts with Oscer most

  • the part where that person was walking up to Big Bird scared me when i was little. :O I thought the shadow was so scary! well i was a little kid when i saw this. ;D

  • yeah that scared me too sneaking up on him

  • Oscar can be cruel sometimes...at least he had the heart enough to find him.

  • Personally, I wish that Luis did that to Oscar, instead of Maria.

  • i think this is before luis was on sesame street.

  • Nope, Emilio Delgado has been on "Sesame Street" since 1971.

  • Luis wasn't on this special.

  • osar was right big bird he came but you fell speel
