omg that part when santa claus' shadow slowly creeps up over big bird in the silence and he wakes up with no one there used to scare the hell out of me when i was a kid
after all of these years of watching I'm 15 years old and for the first time I notice Santas shadow. I'm scared of Santa now lol. he's like another holy spirit.
Poor Big Bird...but that's just like it is...older kids will tell the younger ones all kinds of things and they believe it. Oscar was like the bully older brother to little brother Big Bird.
Also, Oscar ALWAYS had a different relationship with Maria than he had with the other humans. That's his "Skinny". She can do and say things to him that no one else would be able to get away with. And also, only a REAL friend would call you out on your ish the way Maria did with Oscar.
big bird has feathers, silly! birds can withstand amazing enviromental conditions! ask the geese swimming in the half-froze pond,or the penguin, who knows no different!
Imagine, if you will, a strange man in a red suit who visits every home in the world on a single night. You think you see him out of the corner of your eye, only to find he's not actually there. A man so not there that he doesn't even leave any footprints in the snow. Some say he's only a figment of your imagination, but know that he IS real. Santa Claus does indeed exist. And he exists ONLY... in the Sesame Street Zone. ;)
I was scared of that scene, too, when I was little! Something about the creepy music and the shadow and the icicles on Big Bird's beak just freaked me out. I'm 26 and I still shivered!
Okay so did this used to SCARE anyone when they were kids? Omg at 3:20 on! I used to be SOOO scared! This show made me afraid of santa LOL! A freaky shadow, and then "No footprints in the snow!" CREEPY!
@iluye i was also incredibly frightened!! i hated seeing santas shadow and hearing the snow crunch underneath his feet. ick that scene was just creepy
Aww, I remember being so sad when everyone was looking for Big Bird. Poor thing was alone, covered with snow, and had an icicle on his beak and everything. And when Gordon carried Patty in when Big Bird came down to warm up... Ah the memories!
You tear apart the baby's rattle & see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest man that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance can push aside that curtain & view & picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real & abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives, & he lives forever.
"You tear apart the baby's rattle & see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest man that ever lived, could tear apart. I think Patty told Maria about it. Susan's holding her right in front of Maria just before she goes to Oscar to confront him about it, so it was most likely Patty in a deleted scene.
Incidentally, how come Patty never appeared again?
@shadowwolfz they do not act like dicks!! If they did they wouldn't care about anyone but themselves and Oscar definitely cares about way more than just himself
Boy, that served Oscar right! Even after a sore neck, he still keeps on a-spewin'. Maria was starting to crack at the end. Does this grouch ever learn? Oh well.
melissa: He doesn't want any. It's a grouch paradox in that he likes trash, rain, mud, and other "yucky" things, but yet, if he gets those things, he's happy & he HATES happiness, because he's a grouch!
the part where that person was walking up to Big Bird scared me when i was little. :O I thought the shadow was so scary! well i was a little kid when i saw this. ;D
Oscar said Big Bird is part homing pigeon? lol maybe a 8 foot pigeon :D

One question: What does Big Bird mean to say that Santa might be "stacked over Kennedy?"
Yes, Oscar DOES have a good side...he just rarely shows it!
auburn4wins 4 years ago
The stacked over kennedy comment has to do with airplanes getting held up in the airspace over the airport.
CrazyJustin2006 4 years ago
CrazyJustin: Yeah. Sesame Street is IN New York, so Kennedy must a big time New York air strip.
TherealRNO 3 years ago 2
hehe not a very kid friendly joke then isnt I wonder if younger kids ever asked that question
melissa3289 3 years ago
yeah, it's sort of a new york joke because sesame street was and still is filmed in new york city and kenedy is a major airport here.
Gabrielle261 3 years ago
auburn:
"One question: What does Big Bird mean to say that Santa might be "stacked over Kennedy?"
He's actually saying "stuck over Kennedy." Meaning stuck over Kennedy airport. (Nowadays people mostly just call it "JFK").
Marbles471 2 years ago 2
In fact, he is saying "stacked" over Kennedy -- it's a term for when planes are waiting for clearance to land!
