In fifth gear, even though astra VXR had 40 BHP more than Focus ST, it was buttraped in track by Focus. Its because of the Focus' superior handling.

The VXR is a great car. I think they purposely induced that understeer. Would have been a much quicker lap time if the Stig had approached that corner with a bit more grace.

In my opinion just every fucking idiot (& jeremy clarkson is the "lordoftheidiots") at top gear is full of shit: they clearly cheat the road tests favouring the car they personally prefer (this vid comes from the test of the ASTRA against the fuckin' golfmk5 & the Renault Mégane Sport): jeremy loves the vw & so talks rubbish 'bout other cars. That lap was rubbish and was not all because of the pre-prod VXR. Chicago messy exit could be clearly avoided, and the hammerhead... what a hell was that? Even Clarkson made it better earlier in that episode! Stig is careful with other cars at hammerhead, there is no reason for all that aggressiveness in this lap.

Stig is a great driver, of course, but this lap was rubbish, I don't believe that's the best he can do (but maybe that's the best he wanted to do...)

I doubt that VX let their Marketing dept submit a pre-production vehicle. I have a VXR and I could believe that it would handle like this. Nothing that a RARB wont fix though! :o)

I've always thought that the Stig consistently enters that corner way too fast and obviously gets understeer big time especially in a front wheel drive car. Poor driving in my opinion...he is trying to enter that corner at speed and trying to prepare it to a Zonda or Ferrari or all the other supercars he drives. I'm sure the Astra VXR is faster than the Stig did on a poor and too aggresive lap. !
