  • That is absolutely fantastic! Great sounding cover of a brilliant track!

  • Hey man greetings from America... I subscribed to your channel seeing that you are a Vangelis fan I just had to check you out... Very impressive... is all I will say... : )

  • Very cool and quality cover!

How did you get that resonance effect after each played chord?

  • @janxenjanxen Thanks:) PWM (or pulse wave modulation) was a wonderful feature of analogue synths, I controlled it manually here ,but you can use an LFO or filter to make it "move about"

  • @mik300z That sounds difficult ;-). I started making music again, just this year... so got some gaps here on there on certain stuff and techniques.

  • I always thought that Spiral is one of the best examples of using the arpegiator!! Thumbs up for doing it very nicely! :)

  • I went out and bought a Juno 6 the other day, based on what you've been doing with yours on FB. I'm having a blast with it! Tell me one thing, how do you get that initional explosive first note?

  • Impressive!

  • holy cosmos

  • 2:20 min OMG waren das geile Geräte!

  • Ja dieser Compressor von Behringer ist der Knaller. So viel Druck macht kein anderes Gerät. Sehr gut angeschlossen :-) Das kann kaum jemand. gg

  • This is the most amazing cover version of Spiral ever ! Am I dreaming of not? This is very very well done! You have a big talent. I can really advise you to make an album. You are the new Vangelis!

  • Absolutely spendid, my dear fellow. A well deserved pat on the back for that!

  • I prefer Tangerine Dream (My fave band,90's and 2000 era is my favoriete, not 70's like most fans) and Christopher Franke solo than Vangelis, but "Spiral" is one of those Electronica Masterpieces that will live forever.GREAT work btw.

  • Wonderful track - great job.

  • I must agree with TheSlain1969. When I first listened to this cover, I thought maybe you had cheated and just played the original Vangelis piece, but very careful scrutiny showed that it is your own work. I'm hugely impressed. What did you use as a sequencer? (You did use one, didn't you?)

  • Just freaking perfect.....I could listen to this all day.

  • Amazing.

  • Like others already said AMAZING :-)

  • In one word: Amazing!

GReat great work and a very beautiful sound!

Thank you very much for your greats musics!

  • Bloody impressive. Nice, nice work.

I'm in Ireland too. Hate to presume, but with a rig like yours, you look like the man to ask. Anyone you know able to give a DX7 IID a decent service for me? Umm.. again... hate asking because I tuned in to listen to your amazing effort above. But it'd be great if you had any idea.

  • @colin5577 Hi, no probs. There is a guy in Waterford who's just done work on my juno's, he knows his stuff. message me and I will give you his no. And thanks btw!

  • mate...unbelievable...

imho your cover is better than original vangelis.

im not usually a fan of cover songs, but man...you blew the roof out of my speakers.

and for sure, one of the best covers all time.

    keep on rocking...

    greets from finland

  • Better than the original!

  • @Mr100000Volt I agree

  • Absolutely amazing! You are great.

  • TO MIERDA .... COMO EL JARRE ............ SABES COMPONER? VANGELIS SI ... COME MIERDA

  • @traxty Hmmm. You know that sound you make when you're hungry, that isn't exactly a fart, but isn't a belch either? It's a kind of flatulent noise that never leaves your stomach, so you get into the same sort of trouble you'd get into for farting but you don't get the satisfaction? That's the band on your channel, that is.

Man... they suck. Talk about generic wannabes. The prescence of that banal tat on your favourites disqualifies you from having your musical opinion validated in any way.

  • Verry I M P R E S S I V E if I may say so ... Listening with headphones (I heardly don't even notice it's not the real Vangelis deal. Mik, great job... Absolutely amazing. I grew up in the era of electronics... U give it an extension, a new fresh wind that blows tru... Some ppl are jealouse. But they don't understand how much work is to be put in one track like this. It kind of takes the mystery out of Vangelis, but shows he's/your genious instead. Grtz from Belgium M8

  • @TheSlain1969 Thats a really nice compliment, thankyou! I like to think this is one of the tracks of Vangelis that I have done justice to. you put a smile on my face, cheers and greets from Ireland:)

  • @TheSlain1969 Nie im Leben hat er diese Musik live gemacht, schon gar nicht auf der Korg Juno...

  • THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, you drive me to tears!!! Awesome!! The crazy sound at the beginning really got me into electronic music when I first heard it, back in 1987. It would be a great thing if you make a video about creating that sound! THANK YOU already for this fine cover!!!!!

  • Fantastic! Equal, if not better than the original!

  • I have no words. Breathtaking!

  • GREAT-GREAT-GREAT !!!

  • fucking awesome dude!!!:IO:O

1 of my favorite songs of vangelis(L)

  • Awesome version

  • hey that's amazing, nice work......how did you find the intro arpegios, please tell me :-))

  • superb!!!!

  • good job!!

  • That was great. Fantastic work.

  • vangelis is my hero. Most covers of his music is tripe. You, my friend, have nailed it. Congratulations

  • This is truly amazing especially since you don't read music. I wish I could program my old Junos as good as you do! You do make Vangelis proud! Excellent job!

  • Exceptional work !! I love it. It's got even more power than the original.version. I'm amazed by the performance of the Rolands. I've owned two juno's in the past, but i didn't manage to perform these kind of things !

  • EAR Orgasm!

  • OMG :O

  • Hello...very nice, Wonderful :)

  • amazing...please check my channel for my little vangelis tribute

  • sounds okey, but i like the maestro himself better

  • Best Spiral cover. I love your music :-)

  • very impressive for doing it by ear. i know it's not quite right, but it still sounds great. The intro is the best part of crouse.

  • excellent..........

  • This absolutely brilliant!!

  • 1 word fantastic

  • Totally awesome!

  • Glad I found this channel! Great stuff!!

  • Oh you have done Spiral also.... damn.... is anything you have not done ? lol and I was thinking of remaking spiral... lol... you definetely raised the bar.

  • How did you get the stereo version to pan between the left and right channels as its playing?

  • That's it. I'm setting up my MicroKorg. This video is a huge inspiration!

  • true it inspires

  • awesome ! ! ! !

  • How did you figure out the notes for the sequence? Is there sheet music available?

  • By ear, sorry I don't read music. :)

  • @mik300z Yeah, I'm supposed to be perfect-pitch capable, but the sequence goes by for me too fast for me, and I've never had a copy I could slow down to transcribe. What notes are you playing in the initial sequence?

  • @mik300z by ear? you don't read? Wow, great:) big plus for you:)

  • Stereo version sounds extraordinary... 5 stars for you.... how much time did this took to make it ?

  • Very nice sound!!!! , I have aN ENSONIQ ESQ-1 too, but just with internal sounds, I think the previous owner made a bad copy from the internal bank to the cartridge....so I'm now looking for more sounds cartridges, or another way to get more sounds for it...Could you help with your recomendation?...thank's!

  • Forgotten how much I like this track. Just popped the stereo version on my MP3 player for the gym, absolutely awesome cover!

  • wow!!!! u doit!!!

  • Absolutely stunning.

What is doing the strings? Is that the Juno 6 as well? Also, as far as sounds are concerned, do you find them extremely close between the Juno 6 and 106, or are there any key sonic differences between that brother and sister of the same family?

  • If there was sound in space it would sound like that

  • Hey man great job with the vangelis songs.... do you do them by ear? I have a juno g whats some good presets to get vangelis sounds...

  • Fuckin awesome!

    Brilliant!

  • you're right about it being better in stereo. I was listening in mono and thinking "that's really good...", then I switched over to the stereo one and all of a sudden my room got 10 times bigger !!!

Brilliant version (I think I prefer this to the original).

  • Awesome !!!

  • You're the man !!!

  • great work no one could done it better

  • Wonderful !!!!

  • stunning.... absolutly stunning. 5*

  • excellent version

  • This is excellent! To play all of that by ear must have been hard work. My hat's off to you!

  • in strereo it`s awesome!! Great work!!!

  • mmmmm nice one this :)

  • Absolutely Brilliant---

  • Me he quedado paralizado!!!!

  • Wow... just wow!!!

  • PRETTY close :)

  • esta muy bien, es bastante similar, enhorabuena!!!

  • hey :) where did you get the notes???

    i want them ;)

thank you if you could send them to me !

  • How long did you take it to put it all together?

  • 2-3 evenings, longest part was getting the juno 6 arpeg pwm sound close to the original as possible.

  • wonderful song, you do it justice.

  • Cheers!

  • Einfach super!

  • veramente bravo

  • incredebly good for a cover, but ... sorry ... not the original.

make your own music, YES (WE) YOU CAN !!!

  • Its vangelis playing the drums himself.

  • Its the original Im hearing. Its not any cover.

  • Man that Juno-60 sounds ALIVE! I can't belive how much like the original this sounds like...well done!

  • Thanks, much appreciated:) it's a Juno 6 though, exact same as a Juno 60 except it has no patch memory. You have to work it to get the sound you need which I think is a great tool to keep you on your toes! It's easy to forget the principles of basic synthesis in the digital age.

  • Lol yeah sorry had Juno 60 on the brain all day. Yeah I totaly agree with you and things like the virus with it's 1320982bilion patch memory honestly dont interest me. There was a Jupiter 8 localy here for only £1000...man I wish I had the money cos I could of ebayed it for much more but knowing me I would of kept it.

    Honestly totaly love roland gear.

  • LOL!! A jupiter for a grand...I feel sick:) Hey, if you ever spot aRoland VP330 vocoder for sale over there PLEASE drop me a message, thanks again

    Mick

  • I know it's wrong! lol It was nice looking thing too.

If I see one of those roland vocoders I certainly will let you know although I don't think I ever saw one round these parts. Last year I went to all the bootfairs you could dream of in the hope of finding something and all I got was a Prophet 2000 which worked for about 1 hour lol

Ah well back to SOS and Gumtree readers adds it is hahah

  • Niewiele co się różn i od oryginału. Świetne wykonanie. Pozdrawiam.

  • Nice setup and a very good cover! Must've taken a while to work out the patches.

  • A very impressive piece of work, I must say.

  • Amazing! Extremely faithful to the original. My only objections are that sampled percussion doesn't work as well as the real thing in this song, and I don't like the way the compressor squashes the sound at times.

Besides that, it's fabulous, as good as the original (and much more cleanly recorded; did Vangelis still have that God-awful noisy multitrack when he recorded "Spiral").

  • Thankyou:) in fairness, on the issue of sampled percussion, the Juno G has a wonderful sound engine and it's drums/percussion sound far superior to most of the VST's I've heard.

As for the compression issue- I think i would need a degree in sound engineering to fully understand, but my use of a hardware compressor is essential to my recordings. Before I got one my recordings were total mush with every synth fighting to be heard.

  • OW SHIT! i thought it was a poor newbie video. man, you got some ultra good heavy tools. pls watch my vangelis Chariots video. but i'm using software. can we change information?

  • so good.... till i hit STEREO!!!! holy cow!!!

  • awesome track and awesome cover!

  • I didn't really rate Vangelis until I heard this song. Perhaps it was something to do with what I'd ingested beforehand.

  • That made my hair stand on end! Incredible!

  • cheers, glad you liked it!

  • O_O Amazing :O

  • Incredible!!!!

    Better than the original one!!!!!

    COOOL!!!! Amazing!!!!

  • COOL!

  • great job for the sequences!

  • Very good version, specially the sequencer sound and that resonant pad (chords) on the second part, before lead melody appears.

I always asked myself about the synth that

Vangelis uses on the first sequenced line: Arp Odyssey or Roland System 100. I have an Odyssey and that sequence sounds incredible on it, but there are no proof that Vangelis had an Odyssey on 1977. What do you think? Spiral was the first Vangelis published theme

on which he uses his Yamaha CS-80.

  • I think the CS80's arpeggiator was used for the opening, rather than a sequencer. Given the way Vangelis is famed for composing, He would want to throw his hands to a different synth without programming a sequence, it's just hard to tell. The synths you mentioned definitely could have been part of it though. Nice BTW you have an odyssey, awesome!!

  • The CS80 does not have an arpaggiator.

Spiral's intro was done with an Arp Odyssee as sound source and the sequencer from a Roland System 100 (info per Keith Spencer Allan, Vangelis' studio tech at that time)

    Nice playing.

  • Amazing! Congratulations- really!

You're very goog! I'm not musician but I think it should't easy to play Vangelis in a complex music like "spiral."

  • Thankyou my friend!

  • I'm sure u get this a lot, but what equipment do u use?

BTW great vid. added to favs.

  • Hi and thanks. I use 6 synths- juno 6 and juno 106, juno g, microkorg, korg x5 and Ensoniq esq1 plus an Akai s2000 sampler.

All run through hardware behringer compressor, 16 channel mixer and zoom effects unit. Reverb effects normally come from the presets on the mixer.

  • guess what I want for christmas! lol

    seriously tho...nice job

  • This is incredible! 5*

  • You synchronised the tracks perfectly, the way it was done in the 70s. I wonder what reverb processor you used, it sounds very nice. Congratulations!

  • Thankyou, the reverb is from my behringer mixer.

  • Trully awesome and nice video

  • I want all those keyboards!!!

  • I've already got them all :)

  • Amazing :))

    Great work, 5*

  • Sorry I missed 1,

  • WOW!!!! I hit the Bell bang on 5 times Brill! Touserclips (A fan)

  • incredible work once more :)

  • Great work!!!!!!

This is one of the more difficult one by Vangelis but this sound is Great..

    Again truly awesome job..

    keep it up.

  • Thankyou!

  • Very Impressive!

  • Damn...I can hardly distinguish it from the real song by Vangelis! Hats off to you!!

  • Once again simply awesome Mick! Keep on rolling!

Maybe some covers of the Chariots of Fire tunes used in the film, but not on the Soundtrack next? Or perhaps some more Giorgio Moroder covers? Cat People?

  • Thanks! cat people, i've heard that name come up a few times but don't know the tune, must do a search here.I like chariots of fire idea, must watch the movie again

  • Pure Genius! Hey Mick I think you might have OCJCD... obsessive compulsive Juno Collecting Disorder! ;) Nah seriously, its really amazing how close all the sounds are to the originals. Its interesting because I've been studying Spiral too. Looks like you beat me to it! I notice each time u study a Vangelis track, ur own stuff gets better... keep up the fine work bro. I'll be comining out with a avalanche of stuff soon too!

  • Wow! You are getting the feel for Vangelis. Chung Kou next pehapes!!! Ps: first for the album please Mick. I have more video's to add your music to.

  • WOW !! superb man, really awesome cover. It sounds really close to the original one and made me feel the same heat and pulse than the real Vangelis. Congratullations!!

  • excellent stuff mate! :)

  • truly awesome bro!.!.!

  • great music

  • Thankyou !!
