Hey man greetings from America... I subscribed to your channel seeing that you are a Vangelis fan I just had to check you out... Very impressive... is all I will say... : )
@janxenjanxen Thanks:) PWM (or pulse wave modulation) was a wonderful feature of analogue synths, I controlled it manually here ,but you can use an LFO or filter to make it "move about"
I went out and bought a Juno 6 the other day, based on what you've been doing with yours on FB. I'm having a blast with it! Tell me one thing, how do you get that initional explosive first note?
This is the most amazing cover version of Spiral ever ! Am I dreaming of not? This is very very well done! You have a big talent. I can really advise you to make an album. You are the new Vangelis!
I prefer Tangerine Dream (My fave band,90's and 2000 era is my favoriete, not 70's like most fans) and Christopher Franke solo than Vangelis, but "Spiral" is one of those Electronica Masterpieces that will live forever.GREAT work btw.
I must agree with TheSlain1969. When I first listened to this cover, I thought maybe you had cheated and just played the original Vangelis piece, but very careful scrutiny showed that it is your own work. I'm hugely impressed. What did you use as a sequencer? (You did use one, didn't you?)
I'm in Ireland too. Hate to presume, but with a rig like yours, you look like the man to ask. Anyone you know able to give a DX7 IID a decent service for me? Umm.. again... hate asking because I tuned in to listen to your amazing effort above. But it'd be great if you had any idea.
@colin5577 Hi, no probs. There is a guy in Waterford who's just done work on my juno's, he knows his stuff. message me and I will give you his no. And thanks btw!
@traxty Hmmm. You know that sound you make when you're hungry, that isn't exactly a fart, but isn't a belch either? It's a kind of flatulent noise that never leaves your stomach, so you get into the same sort of trouble you'd get into for farting but you don't get the satisfaction? @mik300z Yeah, I'm supposed to be perfect-pitch capable, but the sequence goes by for me too fast for me, and I've never had a copy I could slow down to transcribe. What notes are you playing in the initial sequence?

muy icerto aunque imaginate! esa melodia es de el año 1977 que buenos sintetizadores tenia Vangelis para esa epoca! no por nada es el mejor compositor de sintetizadores de la historia de la musica
Thanks, much appreciated:) it's a Juno 6 though, exact same as a Juno 60 except it has no patch memory. You have to work it to get the sound you need which I think is a great tool to keep you on your toes! It's easy to forget the principles of basic synthesis in the digital age.
Lol yeah sorry had Juno 60 on the brain all day. Yeah I totaly agree with you and things like the virus with it's 1320982bilion patch memory honestly dont interest me. There was a Jupiter 8 localy here for only £1000...man I wish I had the money cos I could of ebayed it for much more but knowing me I would of kept it.
I know it's wrong! lol It was nice looking thing too.
If I see one of those roland vocoders I certainly will let you know although I don't think I ever saw one round these parts. Last year I went to all the bootfairs you could dream of in the hope of finding something and all I got was a Prophet 2000 which worked for about 1 hour lol
Ah well back to SOS and Gumtree readers adds it is hahah
Amazing! Extremely faithful to the original. My only objections are that sampled percussion doesn't work as well as the real thing in this song, and I don't like the way the compressor squashes the sound at times.
Besides that, it's fabulous, as good as the original (and much more cleanly recorded; did Vangelis still have that God-awful noisy multitrack when he recorded "Spiral").
Thankyou:) in fairness, on the issue of sampled percussion, the Juno G has a wonderful sound engine and it's drums/percussion sound far superior to most of the VST's I've heard.
As for the compression issue- I think i would need a degree in sound engineering to fully understand, but my use of a hardware compressor is essential to my recordings. Before I got one my recordings were total mush with every synth fighting to be heard.
OW SHIT! i thought it was a poor newbie video. man, you got some ultra good heavy tools. pls watch my vangelis Chariots video. but i'm using software. can we change information?
Very good version, specially the sequencer sound and that resonant pad (chords) on the second part, before lead melody appears.
I always asked myself about the synth that
Vangelis uses on the first sequenced line: Arp Odyssey or Roland System 100. I have an Odyssey and that sequence sounds incredible on it, but there are no proof that Vangelis had an Odyssey on 1977. What do you think? Spiral was the first Vangelis published theme
I think the CS80's arpeggiator was used for the opening, rather than a sequencer. Given the way Vangelis is famed for composing, He would want to throw his hands to a different synth without programming a sequence, it's just hard to tell. The synths you mentioned definitely could have been part of it though. Nice BTW you have an odyssey, awesome!!
Spiral's intro was done with an Arp Odyssee as sound source and the sequencer from a Roland System 100 (info per Keith Spencer Allan, Vangelis' studio tech at that time)
Maybe some covers of the Chariots of Fire tunes used in the film, but not on the Soundtrack next? Or perhaps some more Giorgio Moroder covers? Cat People?
Thanks! cat people, i've heard that name come up a few times but don't know the tune, must do a search here.I like chariots of fire idea, must watch the movie again
Pure Genius! Hey Mick I think you might have OCJCD... obsessive compulsive Juno Collecting Disorder! ;) Nah seriously, its really amazing how close all the sounds are to the originals. Its interesting because I've been studying Spiral too. Looks like you beat me to it! I notice each time u study a Vangelis track, ur own stuff gets better... keep up the fine work bro. I'll be comining out with a avalanche of stuff soon too!
WOW !! superb man, really awesome cover. It sounds really close to the original one and made me feel the same heat and pulse than the real Vangelis. Congratullations!!
That is absolutely fantastic! Great sounding cover of a brilliant track!

Once again simply awesome Mick! Keep on rolling!
Maybe some covers of the Chariots of Fire tunes used in the film, but not on the Soundtrack next? Or perhaps some more Giorgio Moroder covers? Cat People?

Pure Genius! Hey Mick I think you might have OCJCD... obsessive compulsive Juno Collecting Disorder! ;) Nah seriously, its really amazing how close all the sounds are to the originals. Its interesting because I've been studying Spiral too. Looks like you beat me to it! I notice each time u study a Vangelis track, ur own stuff gets better... keep up the fine work bro. I'll be comining out with a avalanche of stuff soon too!
