Having been a 80s metal guitarist myself in bar bands ive listened to the best over the years Macalpine Lynch Vai Schenker Moore (both gary and vinnie!) ive been hard pressed to name anyone the best hell i got to see a unknown player by the name of Doug Doppler who was touring with MSG he did the drum machine thing like gary hoey but hes the guy that Satch chose to take over his music school this guy is a 7 string god! Google doppler inc its fucking incredable!

hm i don´t think so.. for me vai and satriani can be compared much better because the one learned from the other. in cases of virtuosity the two seem to exceed petrucci, but! do you know " an evening with john petrucci and jordan rudess" ? there he proves all his skills wich he probably can´t show with dream theater..

i listened to altitudes.. i think emotion isn´t something measurable like on a scale from 1 to 10.. it´s again a matter of taste. he plays with a lot of emotion, no doubt.. but i still prefer to listen to petruccis music and for me he sometimes is as emotional as becker(if not even more). petrucci sometimes has not much feeling, i agree
