@backbeat56 this is a little off topic but have youever listened to live after death
the double live album from maiden? dude it's twice as fast as the originals which I think sucks its as if they were trying to hurry up and get out of there or they were pressured to fit it all in or something anyways very dissapointing. this was not a live energy/adrenalin thing you can totally tell!! wtf?
The elec' guitar tone was so bad back then, I would not have listened to this track had it not been such an energetic version of the song. That's a compliment to Nugent.
That was awesome showmanship! I agree with blueluna64 this is the sexiest song I've ever heard...and watched for that matter. Nugent ROCKS! Saw him in the 70's at Busch Stadium in St. Louis...Great show!
Derek St. Holmes is awesome. I was fortunate enough to see him perform this song at a small club 30 years ago and was so close to him I could have grabbed his guitar. Great memories

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop songs over and over. if your one of the 5% left who still listen to real music, thumb this up, then copy and paste it to t least 5 video's. DONT LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK AND ROLL DIE.
Does a pro like Ted mean to play this song to fast live?....is it for the extra energy?...or a mistake....as a drummer I used a "BeatBug" live to get the correct tempo because I had a habit of playing to fast when in a live environment. Anyone with pro stage experience have a comment?
@backbeat56 - with all due respect, backbeat56... what you see captured here in terms of tempo change? nothing short of intentional by Ted and his ultraprofessional band. they were playing mind-bending blues, but nonetheless blues... on a TV show. and TV audiences by-and-large, to this day, still want to be ENTERTAINED, not made to FEEL - most people live life superficially. slow blues has depth, but if you play it up-tempo, it's less provocative, more palatable for TV. my two cents - peace...
@backbeat56 YES BACKBEAT ,I HAVE STAGE AND STUDIO EXPERIENCE . I CAN ASURE YOU TED PLAYS IT THE WAY THAY REHURSE IT . HE IS A PERFECTION ON THE STAGE FREAK .
His "Spirit of the Wild" came about many years ago...I've seen the Nuge 48 times in concert, and he has been all about the Spirit of the Wild since the very early 80's He is just a lot more into it than he may have spoke of 30 years ago. 1st time I heard him make reference to the Spirit of the Wild, was back in '83...as he played "Great White Buffalo.
Whatever the hubub might be about Ted and Charlie, this is one of the greatest BASS lines ever laid down in rockdom. Damn cool video. Needs more current views, so I shared it on that facebook thing.

I've been following his career all of my life, since I first heard his music at the age of 9. I'm 46 now, and I am still... THE one, THE only, and THE original..."Ted Head'!!
Those "Dead Heads" who follow the Grateful Dead, have nothing on me!
The only concert I have ever been to that I considered to be too loud was a Nugent concert and I've been to around a hundred. I love it loud but holy fuck it was illegally loud. I couldn't hear shit for a week.

I agree that sir Charlie Huhn is an incredible rock singer. He is under rated and for some reason has never really gotten what he deserves which super stardom. I have seen Foghat and also heard their new songs, like Mumbo Jumbo which never get airplay. Their new stuff is frigin GREAT. Check out Family Jewels Album. Charlie rocks and so did Ted.

That singer's name is Charlie Hughes and he use to be in ViC Amato and Company the house band for a tiny little bar in Grand Rapids Mich called Danny J's. I use to shoot pool with him and Vic on their breaks smoke dope etc. One day Ted walked in and caught the show - trust me they were fucking great our house band for like two years straight - Ted came back the next day and oferred Charlie a spot in his band. A few weeks late our little bar band hero was on Midnite Special a REAL R&R Hero!
That singer is Charlie Hughes. He was in a band called Vick Amato and Company that played at Danny J's every nite in Grand Rapids Michigan. I use to shoot pool with him and Vic a lot. A few months late there was Charlie on Midnite Special playing with Ted. Our little bar guitar hero a real live rock star ! soooo cool to see this vid thanks!
Hey Nuge, is that you? High energy, no apologies, just heavy metal madness. Would I be critical in saying that rock and roll was in it's prime in the 70's and early 80's? Is there anything comparable in the 90's through now? Maybe I'm too old, too set in my ways, too much of a good ol' days kind of person to appreciate the new rock.
Saw him in Sacramento in 78,,The man said he didn't do drugs but we thought that was just a visious rumor..Guess not. Wang Dang Sweet Poontang!!!!!!!!!! Love the solo,Puts you into a trance.
I saw this lineup also in june '79 in Bay City Michigan. It too was a outdoor show. I think The Babys opened and another local/regional band called Salem Witchcraft was scheduled but didn't play.
What a kick ass version of this - Nugent in his prime! I've seen Ted few times, and his guitar playing is better than ever, but his voice really isn't what it used to be. I wish he'd get a singer like Charlie or Derek, and stick to his guitar. For songs like this and 'Stormtroopin', Ted's vocals just aren't as good.
Saw him back in da 70's at The St. Paul Civic Center. Great show. We were trippin' our azzez off on some good blotter. Took us 1/2 hour to find where we parked the R/T after the show.
Ted is the 'last century' man.... his guitar playing is so
old school that his sound should be accompaniment for a electric charlie chaplain skit. Like really, his musicality is cartoonish. Even in 'his' day he was not considered an outstanding guitar player.... but he was / is a great american showman.... and folks, thats entertainment!!!!
@HALEYSABAI - Posted this two years ago, now; couldn't resist responding to HALEYSABAI, because for me HAILEY epitomizes misinformed social networking babble. First of all, Chaplin was a genius; if you're being critical, compare Ted to Buster Keaton, maybe. And you'd still be wrong. Cartoonish? Yes, but cool like Bugs Bunny. As far as Ted not being a great guitarist? I will understand if Haley next posts how Justin Bieber trumps Micheal Jackson. Ted a great showman? No Shit?! Peace. Rock.
@suiteblue I'm so with you! Saw Nugent @ Winterland in SF...GREAT concert hall! Great show. Nugent was outstanding, in showmanship and guitar playing. And yes, Chaplain was a genius too! Glad some people still recognize the good stuff :)
entering old school: it still, after 30 plus years later, never ceases to amaze me just how much talent we had in the 70's! This Gen has nothing but trying to make a buck off of what music we have already done..and still woefully lacks in each and every way! enough said
I saw this lineup live in 1979. They head lined a Day on the Green in Oakland. Other bands include Aerosmith and AC/DC! Aerosmith sucked!! (It was a few weeks before they broke up.) AC/DC was great! (It was a week before the release of Highway to Hell and 6 months before Bon Scott died.) But Nugent and Co. were the best! You can see some of that here. Thanks for posting.
Yup .. day on the green #3 that year .. the other band that played that day was frank morino & mahogany rush ... oh and Tommy from 8 is enough band St. Paradise I think it was called.
I saw Ted and the Scorpions in Seattle in1980. Lost some of my hearing that night. My ears rang for 3 days. I can still hear Klaus Meine say "Hello See-it-ell...". Just a a great show. Two acts at the TOP of their game.
Congratulations for documenting everything so exact concerning all these groups, when they played, and some historical insight. Good job, and it is useful to know. Cheers!!!
This show kicked all ass. It is still the best one ever done and Ted was the man. This was only a taste of why Ted was the best performer at that time and the highest grossing stage act for 3 years! The Ted Fingers of Doom!
The "NUGENT" album from the 80's was a disaster...badly produced, and the beginning of songs that were written with a much forethought as a 30 second local car dealer commercial. Charley tried hard to fill Derek's place but ran into the same ego-mania that Derek did. The one song where Charlie really shined from Weekend Warriors was Need You Bad.... muscle mania...
this was in 1979 not in 1978

I saw this lineup also in june '79 in Bay City Michigan. It too was a outdoor show. I think The Babys opened and another local/regional band called Salem Witchcraft was scheduled but didn't play.

I like this song a lot more when Ted sings it.

Best guitarist ever. Don't argue.
VespertiliaX 2 years ago
What a kick ass version of this - Nugent in his prime! I've seen Ted few times, and his guitar playing is better than ever, but his voice really isn't what it used to be. I wish he'd get a singer like Charlie or Derek, and stick to his guitar. For songs like this and 'Stormtroopin', Ted's vocals just aren't as good.

HALEYSABAI 2 years ago
@HALEYSABAI - Posted this two years ago, now; couldn't resist responding to HALEYSABAI, because for me HAILEY epitomizes misinformed social networking babble. First of all, Chaplin was a genius; if you're being critical, compare Ted to Buster Keaton, maybe. And you'd still be wrong. Cartoonish? Yes, but cool like Bugs Bunny. As far as Ted not being a great guitarist? I will understand if Haley next posts how Justin Bieber trumps Micheal Jackson. Ted a great showman? No Shit?! Peace. Rock.
suiteblue 10 months ago

JustPlainDB 3 years ago
Charlie was a good replacement for Derek. That era when both vocalists were with The Nugget was the best!
