The UFC is a private company... there is no stocks. They shouldn't merge, but should co promote. One promotion means fighters have only one place to fight, so either they accept the contract given my the monopoly, or they don't fight. Bad news. Plus w/ the fall of pride, japanese mma has kinda fallen off..i mean they have Dream, but its nowhere near as popular as PFC was. The only reason i know about kickboxers, is because i happen to have HDnet and can watch K-1 events on occasion. Plus, 90% are moronic "Zuffa Zombies" who only care about the UFC, have no idea what Strikeforce is, and still call the sport of MMA Ultimate Fighting.

@hkboxer It's almost becoming a joke now which is least likely to happen, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao or Fedor vs. Overeem. The only difference is Money v. Pac would actually decide the best in the world. Fedor vs. Overeem would just decide the best heavyweight who isn't in the UFC. Don't get me wrong, I still wanna see that fight, but I don't trust Fedor or M-1 to keep from sabotaging it (like they have so many other great potential heavyweight match ups)
I have a lot of respect for Overeem, but don't forget that Shogun Rua knocked him out twice. Styles make fights. Any good experienced mixed martial artist has a chance to beat a champ with the right fight plan. He definitely is the man to beat don't get me wrong, but don't underestimate an experienced and dangerous warrior like Fedor. He's been around, proved he can come back from an ugly situation and finish the fight.

Fighters over 70kg usually use 10oz gloves during kick boxing fights, while MMA gloves are 4oz. So as you can see it's only 2,5 times bigger, not 20 times ;)
But anyway, good luck to Overeem! While I hope to see a war (and wouldn't mind 25min fight, I think he's gonna finish it quickly).
@k4lash big enough to make a noticeable difference. MMA gloves it's easier to hit cleanly with and the force is concentrated on a smaller surface area.

No disrespect towards Fedor, he is one of the best fighters in history,but i think that Overeem is just too much for him to handle,i wouldnt be shocked at all if Fedor did win but i think that Overeem will win the fight.

@hkboxer It's almost becoming a joke now which is least likely to happen, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao or Fedor vs. Overeem. The only difference is Money v. Pac would actually decide the best in the world. Fedor vs. Overeem would just decide the best heavyweight who isn't in the UFC. Don't get me wrong, I still wanna see that fight, but I don't trust Fedor or M-1 to keep from sabotaging it (like they have so many other great potential heavyweight match ups)

I have a lot of respect for Overeem, but don't forget that Shogun Rua knocked him out twice. Styles make fights. Any good experienced mixed martial artist has a chance to beat a champ with the right fight plan. He definitely is the man to beat don't get me wrong, but don't underestimate an experienced and dangerous warrior like Fedor. He's been around, proved he can come back from an ugly situation and finish the fight.

@knuttypoo Sure he can. Rogers is a one dimensional bum who should be going back to Sam's Club here pretty soon. Fedor isn't exactly well-rounded but against average or past their prime fighters (like he has continually faced post '05 Cro Cop) all Fedor needs is a good counter to knock these weak chinned nobody's out. Then he can go back to ducking the UFC and hiding behind M-1. Or maybe the MMA gods will bless us all and Werdum will score a lucky knockout.

@Steadno Overeem has head growth so outrageous it makes Barry Bonds' transformation look like natural puberty. The difference between Brock and Overeem is that Brock is naturally bulky. Look at pictures from the last decade and you tell me which one had unnatural rapid weight gain in a short amount of time. I'd also like to point out that steroids actually have the opposite effect. Why do you think bodybuilders use them? You don't win for being puffy. You win for being "cut AND proportional."

@jkl0031 A short amount of time? Overeem first started fighting as a heavyweight in 2006 and he weighs only 253. Frank Mir put on 25 pounds between Lesnar and Kongo, that's only 6 months, yet he cleared his drug test and so did Overeem, but let's all accuse everyone in MMA of being one-dimensional has-beens on steroids O__O

@Vajrayana514 That's the difference between powerlifting and whatever it is that Overeem is doing. It's easy to pack on the weight. You'll notice that the 25 pounds Mir put on was bulk. It takes roids to be as big AND as cut as Overeem is.
At no point did I accuse "everyone in MMA" of being one dimensional or has beens. But that does apply to a fair amount of the guys in Strikeforce. I expect to see all the old UFC heavies there soon.

Obviously he could have taken steroids to build up some muscle, then stopped well before the tests in order to pass.
But... I mean is it really beyond the realm of possibility that he might not have been taking them?
I've put on about ten pounds of muscle in about nine months, so surely a guy who has at least a million, is naturally bigger than me and has far more effective and efficient training can put on 20lbs in the space of 18 months.

@jkl0031 going from 235 lbs to 255 in 2 1/2 years isnt 'outrageous' as you say. body builders at their peak are actually very weak. therefore those kind of roids wouldnt work for mma. brock has the legs of a ballerina and the puffy upper body of an ex-roid junky. overeem is cut and even throughout.

SF back then was basically a regional promotion who had no HWs who were either likable draws or had the skills to bring people in. Overeem cost Cung Le type money for not nearly the draw.
So SF decided not to sign their HW champ to a contract, because it wasn't cost-effective.

It is hard not to gas in the first 2 seconds of a round wearing them.
You should stay away from whoever is capable to knock people out wearing boxing gloves.

@Svet69 While I agree that it's much more difficult to knock somebody out wearing boxing gloves (especially in only 3 rounds) you definitely exaggerated their weight :)
Fighters over 70kg usually use 10oz gloves during kick boxing fights, while MMA gloves are 4oz. So as you can see it's only 2,5 times bigger, not 20 times ;)
But anyway, good luck to Overeem! While I hope to see a war (and wouldn't mind 25min fight, I think he's gonna finish it quickly).

@k4lash big enough to make a noticeable difference. MMA gloves it's easier to hit cleanly with and the force is concentrated on a smaller surface area.

@NearlyFreeSpeech You're definitely in the minority there. I like K-1 but Kickboxing has been dead for years. It's only got a cult following here in the USA. MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world. It's the future of combat sports. I'd like to see Overeem do both MMA and K-1. It would be great to see him win a K-1 WGP but also fight the Top HWs in MMA.
