Mariah still sounded good even with the playback malfunctioning. What some of you fail to realize is that singing this early in the morning is not the easiest task.
LOL! the question is, when that "supposed someone" stop singing her part, did it sound better? she should have said, "stop playing that prerecorded belt". prerecorded fail!
I have listened to this so many years but now I think I figured out something (dunno if it's true)
she actually was struggling since the beginning. I dunno whether the track, herself or back singers who sang the wrong part.
she was clearly wasnt lip-sync. only that as a Diva, the "stop singing my part now, baby" happened when she sang the part earlier "ooohhh touch my baby". noticed she hit it twice b4 n after "stop singing my part now, baby"
It wasn't the backup singers. It was the play back, it was malfunctioning. So she had to sing the whole song live which was AMAZING! See Mimi, you don't need to lip!
Just to add to what I wrote she doesn't always back up singers. But her vocals are weak here so maybe she was planning on lip synching the whole performance.
I heard from someone that it was the backing track, and she was going to sing over it, as she layers her vocals, but the backing track obviously messes up. If you listen to the weakness of the volume of the backing track then I just don't believe that she wouldn't have sung over it. Also, if you listen to the album track you can hear vocal layering. Also, the bit where she says "Stop singing my part now baby?" I heard that was aimed at the backing track not her back up singers ;).
I think this was pure professionalism, up to the part of her saying "Stop singing my part now baby? Because my opinion of what happened at the beginning was she was going to lip-sync for the show.. but after the track started at the wrong place, she had to sing it live.. and did a really great job at covering it up... unlike Ashley Simpson who we all remember just started dancing..LOL!!!

@stefnasty cudnt agree mor baby. thank God sum1 out here got also an ear as clever as mine. u can clearly hear shes planing to lipp the end part,but since the prerecorded vocal is coming in at wrong time,she was forced to sing it live.did the it sound better after that "someone" stop singing her part?LoL

my god..... I am SO SAD. She used to be my idol, and now she sings cheap songs and acts like a messed up diva.... why is she so conceded?!?! GRANTED she has an amazing voice..... but I hate how much she thinks of herself. I loved her when she was humble.
