  • what can you say .... some things are so rare today in music that most people dont even git it when thay see this man pore his heart out for you.

  • @jetstomp that was my favorite reply on any youtube vid. you made my day haha

  • i love how strong it feels

  • A thought just hit me, if music as great as pre-equality black american blues music was born out of suffering, shouldn't we be looking too the un-developed parts of the world now to provide the "new-blues" ?

  • @edmundsampo please explain yourself, i don't think i got it

  • @Gnomitolindo he means lets go to ethiopia and hand out a bunch of guitars, then sit back, wait and reap (rape) the benefits of what comes from it. I'm in edmundampo. Sound slike a good investment, of course, we'll need a translator for the lyrics! haha

  • @edmundsampo

    look hard,

stuff like that can be found.

  • This comes from the guy's very core. Muddie Waters told his band to watch this guy very closely at a venue where they were on the same bill, saying he was the real deal. He was.......

  • Son House had moved north to Illinois to get away from cotton fields and wood mills of the south. He only found grueling factory work and filthy conditions. He wrote several songs while his time in Chicago. These are probably photos of the area during the 1920 to early 1930's.

  • @arbonac I'd never read of House living in Illinois. I've tracked Louisiana, Missouri, and Rochester. Possibly Memphis? Did he go upstate after he left St. Louis?

  • that picture isn't really historically correct, but whatev.

  • i could be wrong but I belive the year referenced is the year the song was recorded....

  • yes thats correct, this tune was recorded on houses return to music. I still think pearline is the best tune he did even though he was a bit fukt up when he did it (too much drink & ill health) pearline & deathletter show the raw power & vibe of proper delta music. this kinda music is gone forever which is a shame,

being under Jim Crow law & working in levee camps must have been so terrible for people like sonhouse etc but the music they made was pure amazing,

  • son house was am awesome player. I met a guy at a blues fest that worked a venue that son played. he told me the contract said they were to have on hand 2 resonators for him in the event he crushed the cone in his while he was playing. he said that he played so hard that he would crush the cone most every gig!!

  • i dont think that this music is gone forever.. its been a tradition for at least a century now... and yes its definitly old and therse "newer" music out there.. but personally where i live (portland oregon) there is a strong old blues scene.. alot of it being delta slide, and i personally play delta slide music to keep it alive!! so there may be hope yet! :)

  • Fight the good fight, bro.

  • @FaustyFob actual essence of blues is dead by now. but can't say it will be forever.

  • @FaustyFob- Best city in the world !! PDX

  • @FaustyFob Are you kidding? This is truly the best stuff in its genre ever made. I'm from Amsterdam, to put it mildly, far away from the Delta. So, never lose hope.

  • AWSOME!! SON HOUSE

  • Incredible!!!

  • Love it!
