And even though NATO doesn`t help at all to develop appropriate level of trust between Russia and EU it is not an issue. It's an interesting interview, but IMO the time for so many words has long passed. There is no sign that there will be concrete reforms effected by the Magic Man Obama, his first steps have been to signal hostility to Iran (and Russia) while assuring Israel there will be the expected handout next year of 10s of billions.

It would be nice if old Europe would somehow become independent again. But i just can;t see any passion left to drive it. Old Europe looks like retired solder on pension, enjoying his last peaceful years, leaving in past and memories.
As for Russia, we don't want to interfere in Europe nor we have any hostile plans against it. Our main vector is rising Asia and East, China,India, Latin America. Once we restore Russian Empire, we can create really peaceful
relations with EU.

Russian resources is the *actual* reason why US is on the collision course with Russia. Russia has largest territory with enormous resources and old and new empires naturally want to exploit it. With collapse of USSR one "evil" empire is gone, but there's one or may be two still need to go. Mr. Friedman's does to intelligence what FoxNews does to the news e.g. he is trying to manufacture it.

Nobody thought USSR would collapse as nobody thinks US will. Hyper Inflation, global crisis, economy collapse and scarcity of resources will shape this crisis. US needs real leadership to be able to turn it around. Russia needs to continue building its defenses and alliances , any weakness may get exploited in the future.

I think the big problem is foreign states want to influence the US economy. Most US citizens don't want or own government to tinker with our economy, and are more than willing to slaughter foreign nationals to keep them from ruling the US private sector. The US economy is a force that responds to consumer demands and workforce ingenuity, the most governments start mouthing off about manipulating that, the worse it performs. Especially in the light of the recent plunder and pillaging by banks.

I feel under a Obama administration European ties will become stronger. It is a very well known fact that the leaders of France , UK, Germany etc , as well as the majority of Europe wanted Obama to win. People around the world were celebrating in droves when he won. I feel even relations with the US and Russia will become better and less strained under a Obama administration. The comments above about letting the US "have Africa" is due to racism that Obama is black in my opinion.

really, US does not want any tight relations between Europe (old Europe, first) and Russia. The alliance would be then too big to compete even for US. That's why all american puppet states in Europe such as Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia are permanently taking on Russia and interfering with EU-Russia relations.
Afganistan, his projected strategy agreement with taliban is the only exit strategy for US in that country. Otherwise, a lost war.

Never, regardless whether the EU members want it or not. Russia always had its own way and never followed the crowd. And even though NATO doesn`t help at all to develop appropriate level of trust between Russia and EU it is not an issue. In fact, both EU and Russia will only benefit from economical cooperation and peaceful neighborhood. Partnership and mutual respect is the only way of successful coexistence-to get merry is not nessesary.

Due to its scope, government intervention in markets is inevitably catastrophic & its actions can only delay, or change the depth, duration and frequency of catastrophe. Recessions in a free market are a correcting mechanism & are only locally catastrophic if there is very limited ability to trade: steel, textiles. I agree 100%! I see Russia as part of Europe. We have a shared heritage - the same people & the same culture (up until Communism was imported from New York anyway!), we share many values.. Russia is a vast land mass - I see the future of Europe with Russia, even the colonisation of Russia by the combined European peoples (speaking Russian as well as thier own languages of course), economic, cultural, military union in the next 100, 200 years I think this will happen (and hope it does so!).
