@DoraTheDino 1) I know I've seen pic.'s of JHBonham with 2 bass drums-although rare it be. 2) then I'd like to mention another of the 3 BIG drummer whose records taught me - Tommy Aldrige: from Black Oak Arkansas , Pat Travers - when he had his hits, Coverdale's white snake, Ozzy etc. Tommy the double bass King. He must of loved Bonhan too - all 3 of us tend to play with bare hands at times. I tried to do Tommy's solo then break into John's solo then out

It's not even that bonham was super technical. He wasn't really at all. This solo is mostly triplets and accents. It's more how he played fluid in odd time, never, ever, even when soloing, went off time, and most importantly, did not over play. He knew when to just keep a standard rock beat with a few accents through a whole song (in the evening) or to crank up the technique and make it a bit complex (fool in the rain)

Some people just know how a drum track should flow with a song, but tell them to play a solo and they're lost.

Other drummers can not produce a good sounding drum track for their lives, but tell them to play a solo and they blow you away.

Being a good drummer balances the two.

That being said, i love me a good solo
