Im not a fanboy, but. Ati cards just sux, no Phsyx, no CUDA. Ati got only CrossFire nothing else. If i have to chose between HD4890 - GTX280 - I WOULD GET GTX280.

gtx 280/285 is not in the same leauge as the 4890. the gtx 275 is its competition.

ati has much better supprot for hdcp stuff.

plus theyres actually only 2 major games that have physx mirrors edge, and ut3. and honestly most people will never touch cuda. but then again ati has theyre useless add ons too like dx 10.1. i own both those games and have had a gtx 260 and physx is just a marketing ploy to get you to buy the card.....the physics effects were by no stretch a deal breaker

if your monitor is smaller than 20 inches get an ati 4770.

if its between 20 and 22 inches get a 4850, gts 250, 4870, or gtx 260

if its between 23 and 25 inches

dont get a 4890 get a 4850x2...its exactly the same price and alot faster.

if you have just a ginormous frickin monitor then get a 4870x2 or gtx 295 but then again if you had that big of a monitor you would probably already know that.

i think the resolution you meant was 1440x900 which is standard for 19 inch widescreens and some high res 17 inch screens. but yeah a 4770 comes real close to 4850 performance so it can handle it plus its frikin dirt cheap for 100 bucks.

and 2560 x 1600 is actually 30" resolution which a 4870x2 or gtx 295 can already do easily in any game. theres really no reason to upgrade right now the new cards that just came out are not that much faster at all. id wait for the nvidia 300's or ati 5000's

well thats a good system so far. depending on how fast and what settings you want to play what games...keep in mind far cry 2 and the crysis games and grid liked my gtx setup i used to have while the call of dutys and fallout3, and fear 2 like my ati setup better. also if you have a 24 inch monitor forget about the 4850's, 9800gtx/gtx+/gts 250, or anything weaker than those cards, they dont have enough umph to drive 24" monitors on max settings.(well atleast not enough fps for my standards)

if your getting a 19 or 20 incher stick with the new ati 4770 its just a tiny bit slower than the 4850 or gts 250 but its like 50 bucks cheaper and at 1440x900 should max out any game and still get super good fps....but from my personal experience the bigger the monitor the more headshots : )

Early tests with beta drivers show it's neck in neck with the GTX285 in most cases, so I'm pretty sure it will end up faster than the GTX275 all around, a card that is still nowhere to be seen btw.

Also, it's nice to know, most will OC to 1000MHz+. :)

There's plenty of improvments to the card than just clock bumps, look them up. :P

this is going to be released april 6th. its real world performance on beta drivers is supposed to bench just as well as a gtx 280/285. imagine what it would do with official drivers. a 4890x2 would probably crush the gtx 295 since the 295 is basically two 260s in sli.

This card and 4800 series is just awesome. It's cheap for AMD to manufacure and delivers extremely great performance for it's price to us. GTX275 should end up slower or tie with this, but is very expensive for nVidia to make. GT200 GPU on the nVidia GTX cards is big, and the GTX cards uses 448/512-bit wide memorybus with GDDR3 which is more expensive and not faster than AMD's 256-bit bus with superfast GDDR5 which is more efficent and cheaper to make.
