same thing happened with my tragus piercing... they put the needle through then tried to put the jewelry in and pushed and pushed it wouldn't go through... then they realized "oops! wrong gauge needle!" and had to put a bigger one back through. lots of blood :( you'd think they'd check the size before piercing!!
I don't see what he did wrong besides not having the jewelry ready.
