Incidentally, I'm an aviator, and I've been part of the stackup lots of times for this kind of landing operation in lots of places around the country. This answer doesn't meet your test for a "scientific approach," but it truly does make sense for large numbers of jets making their final approaches for landings 60 seconds apart to avoid wake turbulence.

No plane i ever saw stops mid air, neither do I see them that close as they appear to be at the end. You might be right ofc, and the visuals here screw with the mind. They might actually appear to be stacking up at the end because they change direction. But still, nothing conclusive in either direction.

its a formation of military helicopters, seen this many times while stationed at Fort Hood You will not hear them they are probaly about 10-15 miles away from you.

It seemed to come from behind my house which is all grassy area for about 300 feet then more houses, and went over my house to the front of it which is a street. On April 2, 2011 we released 108 Sky Lanterns in honor of children who lost their lives to Child Abuse. While this was meant to remember these beautiful children in an unique way it wasn't long that news of UFO spottings in Chicago IL flew. It seemed our lanterns was reported as UFO spotting

It seemed to come from behind my house which is all grassy area for about 300 feet then more houses, and went over my house to the front of it which is a street. The face that it seemed to come directly over my house and not around it makes me think that it wasn't a passing vehicle.

Maybe you should send an email to the control tower at O'Hare and tell them people are flying mile long strings of garbage in the sky at night. Maybe it was swamp gas powered weather balloons piloted by geese.
