  • in case anyone's wondering and doesn't already know the footage with military officials and soldiers was taken from a wargame in 1979. Its is on youtube and is called First Strike and talks about what might have happened if the Soviets had launched a surprise nuclear attack. There is a short movie like film at the beginning and than afterwards discussion by experts of the time.

  • robards...guttenburg..lithgow..its the 80's alright!:)

  • The General (I think you military guys are caling him the Commanding Officer, which givn his rank, makes sense). I cant help but come back and watch that guy--I wonder if USAF officers are like this in real life--so cool and polite: "Everybody stand easy. How is everybody today? Thank you very much. Do not fail to complete the review..." Lothar, I think his demeanor is professional-coolness, not non-chalance.

  • @wsmith68 My comment is not derogatory; I've stated before that calmness is a good trait for a man in that position. However, that does not detract from the fact that men like him held the heart of humanity in their hands, and saw it all as "following orders" and "doing their job"; *nobody* should have that much power.

  • The fear of Nuclear war. Ronald Regan was NOT a savior. People need to know that we had a STRIKE FIRST DOCTRINE back then. Ronald Regan brought us to the brink on more than ONE occasion with his irresponsible banter and foot in mouth flubs. It was not about protecting us from communism. NO ONE LIKED COMMUNISM. It was about maintaining a multi billion dollar armemence industry. Youtube used to have the after movie Nightline discussion on here. The right wingers got OWNED ! War is stupid !

  • @cobias It was because of this movie that Reagan changed his attitude toward nuclear war, did you know that? That's why he and Gorbachev signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 1987.

  • In one of the scenes, the fallout shelter beneath one of the buildings in Kansas City, Missouri, could not withstand the impact nuclear? Therefore the people came out there running?

  • @kansascitiano1967 I think they both died due to radiation poisoning, yeah. As for Kansas City, I think some of that was out of terror.

  • And another asnwer to all. Dr. Oaks had a physical breakdown due to the intense work or as with Bllly MacCoy, was caused by radiation poisoning? He went crazy too?

  • One answer for all, what happened to the "Airman" Billy MacCoy? He was mad or blind. I know he was poisoned with radiation, but this same radiation may have left him mad or blind? Or was the nuclear devastation and the death of his wife and son left him crazy?

  • threads aint got nothen on this movie

  • @lothartheterrible I like the annotations, good info.

  • I remember watching this when I was young in november 1983. I had nightmares like I will never forget. I was not supposed to be watching it......

  • I think the captions/notes add some valuable and/or interesting details alongside the movie - so thanks for the upload and for your input :)

  • @JagerLange Thank you and you're welcome.

  • @lothartheterrible Yes they do. Thanks for uploading this movie. I watched it when it originally aired in fall of 1983. I was 10 and I had to fight for the TV to watch this movie, imagine that a 10 year old. My family, apparently, thought the threat of nuclear was was not real. BTW, I also happened to catch the airing of Threads. Sometime in the 80's. Don't understand why people fight over which was better, both conveyed the point. What is the point of a nuclear war, u can't win.

  • stupid trumpets

  • I remember watching this on TV when it first was aired. Scared the heck out of me.

  • Thanks for uploading this, great, terrifying movie.

  • This movie came out as I was starting my USAF at McConnell AFB with the Titan II ICBM missles.

It left an impact on me for sure!

  • I still remember this movie from when I was a kid. I think ABC should broadcast it every single year just to remind everyone (including those people with the finger on the button) that even if we win, we lose.

  • Notice that it was aired in November '83, during the sweeps. Ratings still came first.

  • this was one of my favorite movies of all time because of its stark realization of life after a nuclear holocaust. no pretty boy heroes, no happy endings just despair, pain and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. if you like this movie i would recommend another good movie called "testament"

  • @smellykelley69 BBC's 'Threads' is incredible, too.

  • @InstigateInsanity Ignore me, by the way. Everyone must be thoroughly sick of people mentioning 'Threads' by now, and I sometimes tend to type before I think :P

  • "It's very effective and left me greatly depressed. So far they havent sold any of the 25 ads scheduled and I can see why...My own reaction: we have to do all we can to have a deterrent and to see there is never a nuclear war."

    - Ronald Reagan, October 10, 1983

  • Hey guys, sorry 'bout that little drunken rant last night...venting out of frustration with Chris Hansen's failure to understand that I was just being a good samaritan. That 12 year old girl was home by herself for an entire evening and I wanted to make sure she was safe. Oh btw folks Creepshowmovie actually uploaded 'The Day After' on youtube and the picture quality is far superior to my upload. Only downside is they didn't inundate the flick with cool captions like I did.

  • I'm fuckin SICK of all you IDIOT commenters! I'm the ONLY person who knows what I'm talking about here!! FUCK YOU ALL!! And fuck Chris Hansen and his stupid To Catch A Predator show that I will be fucking appearing on in the fall!! I ONLY WENT THERE TO SEE IF SHE WAS OK WHILE HER FOLKS WERE OUT OF TOWN! Rant over...

  • I remember when this movie first came out and how it effected people. A lot of marching for world peace followed afterwards back in '83?

  • @mrgreatbighardcock1 Yeah, ain't that cool? You should try it sometime; it's interesting to see what kind of flame-names the trolls come up with.

  • @mrgreatbighardcock1 . At this point I cannot help but wonder who is the "pathetic weasel"; the person who's smarminess is so cartoonish and over-the-top that it's quite obviously sarcasm, or the person taking the time and effort to set up sock puppets and throw an Internet temper-tantrum. If I get to you that badly, then flame on; everybody needs an enemy, I suppose. And you're wrong; I don't like cheese.

  • @lothartheterrible Wait...you don't like CHEESE? What are you, some kinda fuckin' Commie?

  • @mrgreatbighardcock1

    Are you gay?

  • I remember when this film was first televised, and how SERIOUSLY the viewing public reacted. It was simulcast in the USA and USSR . I believe the simulcast was preceded by an announcement to that effect by CBS News. When will Gorbachev get the credit he deserves for dismantling the Soviet Union??

  • @CLASSICALFAN100 It was not simulcast in the USSR; it was not shown on Soviet television until 1987. The movie was preceded by an announcement by actor John Cullum regarding its heavy subject matter (this can be found on YouTube under "ABC The Day After intro and disclaimer KSTP, 11/20/1983"). Gorbachev also was not in power at the time of this film's broadcast; Yuri Andropov was Soviet secretary at the time, followed by Chernenko. Gorbachev took office in March,1985.

  • @CLASSICALFAN100 However, I do indeed agree with you in principle about Gorbachev; his abandonment of the Brezhnev Doctrine led to the Eastern European revolutions of 1989 which essentially dissolved the Warsaw Pact, therefore bringing about a de facto end to the Cold War. The dissolution of the USSR was inevitable after that.

  • @lothartheterrible Many thanks for keeping the facts straight. It was a very long time ago. I should have written, "If memory serves..." before each sentence!!

  • @CLASSICALFAN100 You were correct about it being a big deal; I was young, but I remember the build up to its airing. An 800 number was set up by ABC, manned with counselors to calm terrified viewers. Being an impressionable child, it affected me particularly adversely; I do not think I slept a full night for several days afterward.

  • watch threads a british take on a nuclear war.....you'll shit your pants.

  • @junkman19571 Watch people blubber and fawn over Threads for four years, acting as though this film is insignificant in comparison, and you'll want to gouge someone's eyes out with a fork.

  • @lothartheterrible Agreed. "Threads" is a very good film in its own right, but so is "The Day After." I personally do not feel one is better than the other; they each have their own merits and their own shortcomings, and both are equally frightening. Why do people always feel the need to take the antagonistic approach? Besides, "Threads" may not even have been made if not for "The Day After".

  • @Lotmeister 'The Day After' was first shown in Nov 83 in the USA. Threads was being shot in the winter of 83/84. It is pre-dated by the '82 BBC Prog 'A guide to Armageddon' , directed by Threads director Mick Jackson. 'Threads' was made because 'The War Game' made in 1965, STILL had not been shown on UK TV, times were changing. I have seen 'Threads' repeated quite a number of times on the BBC, I have not seen TDA repeated. Most people in the UK thought it was sanitised so as not to over-shock.

  • @3replybiz Well if you hate "TDA" so goddamn much why are you even on here? Go watch "Threads" if you want, no one's stopping you! There are plenty of movies, TV series, etc. that I don't like either, I don't go to their sites and piss and moan about how much I don't like them. I will never understand jackholes like you who go to places they don't like, piss and moan about how much they don't like it, and then get all offended when people tell them to piss off.

  • @Lotmeister Oh so we are not allowed to compare things at all. I didn't say TDA was bad at all and I can see the director actually borrowed an idea from Paolo Passolini which you wouldn't even be able to spot. I don't understand how you can even interact with peoople if you are so closed-minded and intolerant not to tolerate what is a slight difference of opinion. Talk about anger issues. Try and be less fucking aggressive maybe?

  • @3replybiz There comes a time when one must ask oneself, "Am I the dick here?". In this situation, you are arguing your right to state your opinion (which is quite pointless: it's the Internet; we're free to foist our opinions upon everyone whether they want to hear them or not). This is a fair point. What you're doing, however (on half of the parts of this movie, ad nauseam), is presenting your "opinions" as fact. Which makes you the dick. At least be honest with yourself about it.

  • @3replybiz I'm curious - what do you think Nicholas Meyer (the director TDA) borrowed from Pasolini? I'm not educated enough about film to spot it.

  • is this ''the day after tomorrow''

  • @MzMeaghanB No, it's "The Day After". Hence the conspicuous absence of the word "Tomorrow" in the title.

  • @lothartheterrible im sorry, i didnt mean to offend you, i just thought you might have made a typo or something. do you by any chance know where to watch 'the day after tomorrow'' if you do, could you tell me if not then im sorry to waste your time and im sorry to ask my first question knowing the answer would probably be no but thank you for answering anyways. :D

  • @MzMeaghanB You didn't offend me; you asked a silly question and I supplied an equally silly response. Search for "The Day After Tomorrow part 1".

  • @lothartheterrible thanks C:

  • @MzMeaghanB It's not likely you'll find The Day After Tomorrow on a free site - the movie is too new and is readily available on DVD and programs like Netflix. Luckily, there's only a small "cult following" for this movie, so hopefully we'll continue to have access to it.

  • @RedbeardNC To be honest, I'm surprised this movie hasn't been pulled yet. I've been figuring it was going to pretty much any day. The fact that it's been four years is mildly shocking.

  • As horrible as the situation that this film represents is, we need ones like it for our own preservation and protection from this sort of thing happening..thanks for posting it..

  • Nicholas Meyer, of Star Trek movie fame. Cool.

  • @jengersnaped And not just any movie, Wrath Of Khan! Looks like he cast Kirk's old flame in this movie too.

  • enemy submarines bearing down fully armed.

'mmm kay, right coffee yeh, hmmm, yeh ok

  • @0Wigly0 And McConnell Air Force Base. And Whiteman Air Force Base. And hundreds of Titan missile silos. Not to mention the fact that Kansas is in the heart of the United States' agricultural center. Or were you simply trying to show the world you're an idiot? If that was the case, then you succeeded. "Grats".

  • @lothartheterrible Minor correction: At this point there were only 18 Titan IIs (two squadrons) at McConnell, if my info is correct. Lot of Minutemans scattered all over Missouri, the Dakotas, Neb/Colo/Wyo, and Montana, though. Seems like a failure in post-strike recovery planning to put all those bulls-eyes in amongst your grain growing regions, but what do I know?

  • I was wondering what all this stuff in the beginning was about.

  • p.s.s. FOR ANYONE this going to have a shit fit about the anno thingy ...don't because this dude that uploaded this videos is correct on the first annotation @:25 sec into the movie . thanks again loth:) ok i'll stop saying thanks and posting lol i just wanted to point that out..that , this anno is a good thing to have it U WANT TO LET UR BRAIN LEARN SOMETHING...:) peace...i'm outtie back to the movie.

  • <3 the comments in the movie thx dude :)

  • The irony of this movie in theatre over reality: You can see from the summary after the film is over, that they say an actual war with the real missiles fired--all things being equal, the movie is a far cry from the mulitiplied effect and how exponentially greater would be the actual occurances would be over this movie. Most other films in general over-exaggerates the same events in life. Conversely the Day After by far UNDER--EXAGGERATES the actual effects of missile impact--not cozy.

  • @jabrown45100

Threads is probably the most realistic film and also the most visceral.

  • @mushmouth4life I am not sure what is being referred to with "threads", and I hope I was not misunderstood in my last comment. The moral of the statement at the end of the movie and paraphrased from my comment is holywood is notorious for over-exaggeration. Conversely, credibility is gained for this film, because it doesn't show the impossible. That the accute flash point of the nuclear strike in this movie, no where near compares to an actual strike--and this makes it even more scarry.

  • @mushmouth4life And you're probably realistically getting visceral enjoyment out of trying really hard to sound intelligent. I appreciate the (what I'm assuming is) unintentional irony.

  • @mushmouth4life

but youll be fine, for about 12 seconds... BOOOOOM

  • Hey, lothartheterrible, what is it like to be a commie sympathizer spreading your amateur pinko propaganda.

  • @lotharthehomo I'll tell you, but first you gotta tell me what it's like to masturbate into your sister's panties before bitterly crying yourself to sleep on that cot you sleep on in your mother's basement. You know, to be fair.

  • @lothartheterrible Finally, somebody who understands ME! Can I really confide in you?? Ok, well...when my sister has the poopies really badly, it's kinda gross but stimulating at the same time, ya know? And I'm really tired of the spiders in ma and pa's basement. They really scare me, Lothar.

  • @lotharthehomiehomo Hmmm..that sounds a tish unsanitary; I do hope you're using requisite precautions in order to avoid staph. As far as the spiders go, be a man and not a mouse; most North American spiders are nonvenomous and therefore harmless. Unless they are brown recluse, in which case you're fucked.

  • @lotharthehomo

Did you create that user name just to score points? Are you a McCarthyite relic who doesn't realise the cold war has finished? Communism is dead, but I see that reactionary, right-wing nuts still run loose.

  • @kitchenaut I see you've noticed my troll. Every single one of his flame-names has had "homo" or "gay" in it, which tells me that he may be having an internal conflict with his sexuality. I've suggested on many occasions that he just embrace it and he will feel a lot better (self-loathing is very destructive). He just gets angry and goes back to the basement to huff paint and surf 4chan. Can't say I didn't try...

  • Our Government (Babylon) needs to fall!!!! But Nuclear War is not the answer

  • @dude75able Ok, I have to ask: how did you get the internet out there in the Montana wilderness?

  • back in the day, this was pretty much the first movie I remember seeing in depth how nasty a nuke is. I think this movie opened alot of eyes everywhere as to why make a bomb so nasty that even if you "win" theres not much real victory behind it, only ashes. Its M.A.D Mutually assured destruction

  • Thanks for the upload! This movie used to scare the shit outta me when I was younger!

  • This movie, Threads and the cartoon When the wind blows all helped to turn politics against the nuclear arms race that would have had only one ending had it continued.

  • I really feel sorry for those young people, who weren't even born when TDA was made, and see it thinking its another scf-fi film. ITS NOT! I saw this as a teenager and because of the controversy around it, I was somewhat prepared for the shocking 2nd half of the film. For the unsuspecting people who see this blind, its a grim vision of what could have happened or, God forbid, what could happen.

  • @airdriver I watched this movie as a 10 year old. I had seen the previews and I had to fight to get the TV to watch it. Imagine that. Unfortunately I came from a very uneducated family and they viewed this movie as "Sci-Fi" saying that this never would happen. I have just started reading into the history and Dissolution of the Soviet Union. I have heard all my life Ronnie was the reason, but as I read on it sounds more like Gorbachev and the Baltic Republics started the Dissolution.

  • @sinusbradycardia

Gorbachev, when he became president of the Soviet Union, instituted twin policies called Perestroika and Glastnost which gave Soviet citizens the right to publicly criticize government policies. This spread to the other Warsaw Pact countries which eventually led to Czechoslovakia opening its borders to Western Europe which quickly led to the Berlin Wall falling. Within a couple of years the Soviet Union broke up into individual countries.

  • @airdriver Can you suggest a good accurate source of information. To hear someone say that Ronald Reagan in my hero, because he bankrupted the Soviet Union and caused its Dissolution. I remember Reagan taking office and all the hard times the working class had during the 80's. My aunt and her daughter both had nursing degrees and neither could get in job in Michigan. My aunt eventually took a contract with Nippo-Denso as secretary. The Japanese joked with her about the trickle down economics.

  • @airdriver I'm curious as 2 what Reagan did that was so great, that I hear people saying we need another Reagan resolution. I have heard that Reagan said we needed less government, but government actually grew under is term and George Bush Sr. was left with choice but to raise taxes because of the Reagan tax cuts and ultimately lead 2 Bush getting voted out n 92. At the end of the day, the Soviet Union ceased to exist under Bushes term, but he gets no credit and I have ppl say he ruined rep. pt

  • I have been looking for this movie on dvd for a 1000 years. It scared me shitless back in the early 80s

  • I'm gonna rant big time, the leaders/ big banks/ military industrial complex of the world need to watch this several times, because, enough of the real people in the world will survive and you will have to come out of your bunkers sooner or later or stay there and cannibalize each other till the last man dies because when you come out you will be spotted right away and you wont like whats waiting. Now I know having money or power does not mean your smart but even you can understand this I think.

  • LOL from 2007 to now, people are still commenting on this video! I bet there's a lot of chainmail and justin bieber and those other things that we see on youtube videos in the comments.

  • @darkscoutcam2 As the uploader of this film and thereby default moderator of the comments, I can tell you that you have the dubious distinction of being the first person to mention Justin Bieber on any of its comments. You should be....proud?

  • @lothartheterrible Thanks for uploading this... 3 years ago and you just responded something 4 hours ago OMGWTF FATE

  • @CreepyWarlock Not everybody is on your schedule Mr Peebody :=b

  • @lothartheterrible i tell u, i would not want the job of the guy with his "hand on the button"!! i WOULD go mad..

  • LOL @ whiny pissass

  • Lol, I was searching for "The day after tomorrow" and I watched a few minutes of this, and was like, huh? this ain't it! Myyy badd =P

  • @TheRachelFast No; as opposed to that silly piece of Hollywood destruction porn, this could actually happen.

  • @lothartheterrible I'm not saying that "The Day After Tomorrow" is better than this (I agree that it's terribly unrealistic), it's just what brought me here (=

  • @TheRachelFast I know; I wasn't being malicious.

  • as Richard Pryor said.....'This shit would fuck up your Sundays."

  • :P If you have the your finger on the button every day for however long one does that job, how DO you deal with it with anything other than nonchalance? Seriously, what other response can there be that doesn't result in something catastrophic?

  • I could see big potential, if pulled off cleverly and adhereing to this original, of a remake of "The Day After" by some great director in the future. Perhaps the scenario IS better left in 1983 and not 2012. So figuring that in, it'd be awesome to make this film with quality visual effects but setting it as it is here, in the 80's. U kno, like what Peter Jackson did to his spin on "King Kong"

  • @jaymee1973 Perhaps it would make for a better film, but it would simply not have the impact as the original.

  • I'm Born 1986.. but as I Got Older My Step Father Showed me this movie "The DayAfter" This is one of my Favorite scary Movies of All Time's And Now I'm About 25 years old.. I Always Wonder about Hollywood Made Sum of all Fears, The day After tomorrow, 2012... What About Remaking This Movie!! But Having it happen on Today's War's on Terror!!!! And What if Nuclear War Happen Today... Please Comment on this what Ask More Hollywood Film maker's on This!!! . ThankYou!!

  • I don't think it should be remade at all. It is a time capsule; a perfect snapshot of the fear and paranoia that permeated life in the 1980s. Those films you mentioned are largely fantasy and destruction porn; films like The Day After and Threads are social statements and should be left alone.

  • @lothartheterrible i complete agree with you on that lothartheterrible.

  • @lothartheterrible I love the intro to this. Such bounty and plenty, a paradise. A paradise destroyed by fear, hatred and mistrust.

  • @lothartheterrible Exactly! This and Threads were created to initiate dialogue amongst society. A lot of research went into the production of these films.

  • This movie scared the crap out of me. My mom lied to me and told me it was over during the hospital scene. I didn't learn she lied to me until we watched it in high school in '92, and watched the rest of the movie! I still think this "television event" was instrumental in averting nuclear disaster, at least for the 10 years after it aired.

  • @KiraKhay Ahhhh a Sin City native.... yeah i feel you this stuff is erie, but being in the type of world we live in, I fear that one of these days, months, years one of these countries are gonna express an intrest in dropping another FAT MAN. JAH forbid I hope not, but nothing is impossible in the world of many possibilites... btw anyway word on JERICHO Season 3 being revived? of course CBS wouldn't want people getting the idea to wake up, when they can be glued to some tired fake reality show

  • There was a similar production to this in the UK called "Threads", also very disturbing to watch at a young age. Im just greatful we no longer live in those days of cold war fear.

  • @Ryuforyou We still do! There are more nuclear weapons now.

  • I originally saw this movie in H.S. It was part of our history class as a H.S. Sophmore. In a time when, Ronnie "Ray-Gun" was President, and we all still felt the chill of the cold war. This film had a major impact on myself and my classmates. It was simply frieghtning. This movie brought to light a real understanding of how fragile and connected we truly all are. That we all have a responsibility to ourselves, to each other, and to our world. Thanks for the great post... K from Vegas

  • Scariest movie ever.

  • I am looking for the uncut version which is 4 hours long. ABC made the production team censor a lot of the footage, because Americans were too squeamish about such things back then.

  • What's the year of the film ?

  • @Noex18 1983.

  • @lothartheterrible Thank you ^^

  • @lothartheterrible the year when i was born :)

  • Unfortunately as it may be to some, the SAC general is basically doing his job. It's difficult to explain that attitude to some, you have to understand more about what he has to face and what he has to deal with on a regular basis in order to understand that mindset. Is his job terrible? Absolutely....but bear in mind, he probably has family that's living in the bullseye of some of the "other side's" nukes as well....

    Thanks for posting this lothartheterrible.

  • @ThrashFuckinMetal i hear ya...was like 13 when this casme out...the height of the cold war...and it scared me terribly..it took me a while to get the sight of that musroom cloud out of my head

  • I'm pretty glad that the SAC general is calm. Last thing you want is someone being nervous in his position.

  • Seriously, the annotations are easily turned off. And these annotations arent *HEY SUBSCRIBE LOL DOOD UR COOL* etc, they have to do with they film and are informative and helpful. Damn pissbags.

  • thats nice how u insult the audience b4 they watch the video by calling them a pissbag! well good luck with that :P

  • @marilynenergetic Now that you've joined the aforementioned pissbags, you'll notice off to the left I've put in a couch and a soda fountain. I may be a prick but I'm not an inhospitable host.

  • first of all.im a brit and im not upitty, why cant folks just sit and watch a free movie without bitching at each other?,chill the fuck out folks

thanks for the film lothartheterrible, aint seen this in a long long time

  • @KROBELUS6 It's in our nature to antagonize one another. Especially on the internet where we can hide behind anonymity.

Most of my pejorative remarks are made tongue-in-cheek but this tends to escape the grasp of most. Dick that I may appear to be, I do appreciate comments like yours; it's nice to know that there are some; British, Australian, American, Canadian or otherwise; that do not take it all too seriously.

    And you're welcome.

  • @lothartheterrible What KROBELUS6 said - thanks man.

  • @KROBELUS6 yea i feel u about how people be acting like they got tamponds in there asses i guss they have a huge vagina flow comming to them lol but hey u aready knw who americans act they are not to bright lol but i said the same thing lol

  • @KROBELUS6 I fucking know right?

  • @SSgtParmer dnt be so judgemental ok. just cuz 1 or to dnt lik wat u said or did. tnx for the warnig

  • @SSgtParmer In all fairness, not all Australians are annoying and not all Brits are uppity; just the ones who tend to leave asinine comments on videos like this one. Well, them and Russell Brand.

  • @lothartheterrible I'm a Brit from the north of england not that far from where Threads was filmed (a must see if you like "the day after"). All countries have their idiots, best to just ignore them. BTW, I Like the comments on your vids!

  • I've seen it, and I think it's a brilliant film (it makes The Day After look stupid, to be quite honest). Yes, they do and in all fairness, I've ripped on plenty of dumbass Americans on here; on more than one occasion I've stated that stupidity knows no national boundary and there are plenty on my side of the Atlantic. Thank you and have a good day.

  • @lothartheterrible I dunno, I think that's unfair to say about "The Day After." "Threads" had the advantage of being in production after the studies on nuclear winter were publicly disseminated, and they took it into account. "The Day After" also had to contend with ABC's censors toning down the violence.

In fact, wasn't the first time the public was made aware of nuclear winter was when Carl Sagan brought it up in the debate that aired right after "The Day After?"

  • @HooshIsASoup Yes; it was during the discussion forum ABC aired immediately after TDA. In fact, I've pointed that out as being the reason nuclear winter isn't addressed in this film. What diluted this film was the meddling of the ABC censors; I think Nick Meyer wanted to make a much grittier film, but was just not allowed to. Sad, really; he's a good director.

  • And you're a mother fucker for ruining a perfectly good movie with this shit you windbag!

  • @aberdown There are generally two types of people who leave comments like this:

    1. Intelligent pedants venting about their shortcomings and frustration with society.

    2. Imbeciles with low IQ's venting about their shortcomings and frustration with society.

Whichever you happen to be, well, best of luck dealing with that.

Plus you're another annoying Australian, making your opinion null and void.

  • @lothartheterrible

Shut the fuck up and stop trying to show intellect on youtube, you hopeless sack of shit. Ow and btw god bless spell check or else you would like a dickhead.

  • @raheemfaroo Holy shit; rarely do I have my point proven for me without me even having to say a word. If only it were always this easy. And yes, god bless spell check or else I would indeed "like a dickhead".

    Retard...

  • That plane was flyin' pretty low to the ground, wasn't it?

  • What scared the shit outta me as a kid when this came out in 1983 was I was living in Omaha, NE at the time !!!

  • Oh man I only saw parts of it but damn this movie scared the shit out of me. Ignore the assholes about the pop up issues. I really could care less but thanks for uploading the whole movie.

  • Thank you for uploading this amazing movie.

  • I think I saw this on television when it was first broadcast.

  • @mollymmorrissey

You're attitude is even worse than sub human.

  • i was going to watch this until i saw the little "tid bits of information" that keep popping up. thanks for ruining the movie asshole

  • @lonestarpunk You're welcome, fucktard.

  • @lothartheterrible I second his protestation, this is a classic film, not a fucking pop up video...

  • @Mistermax30 Then turn the fucking "pop ups" off, jackass. You're the moron using twice the energy to bitch about it rather than just clicking that handy-dandy little "turn annotations" off icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

  • @lothartheterrible You know, I don't think these people are intelligent enough to recognize the button that turns the annotations off. Perhaps you should add an annotation describing the button so that they can click it and STFU!

  • @KarenEngelhardt Hell of an idea, Karen.

  • @lothartheterrible brilliant aren't they?

  • @irishchrisc Scary thought is that these people can reproduce.

  • Threads? I've never heard of that film before!

  • I remember watching this movie when it was first on TV.

A lot of people sure talked about it after.

The scary thing is that a nuclear war is more likely to happen today than when this was made.

Just look at the world today.

  • aftereffects would be massive clouds of dust blocking out the sun; basically ruining our food supply.

  • made star trek 2

  • Coffee General?

No but please make sure the fairway is clear at 1701.

  • Thanks to the great Ronald Reagan this never happened !!!!!!!!!!!

  • You mean the same "great" Ronald Reagan that vowed that communism would be relegated to the "ash heap of history"? The same Grampa Ronny that referred to the Soviet Union as an "evil empire" in a speech in March 1983, in which he also reinforced his administration's stalwart anti-nuclear freeze position: "The truth is that a freeze now would be a very dangerous fraud, for that is merely the illusion of peace. The reality is that we must find peace through strength." Man, Republicans are funny...

  • @lothartheterrible What about AFTER this movie aired, though? You've only brought up "Grampa Ronny's" Evil Empire speech and his stance against freezing nuke production, which was BEFORE this movie aired. Reagan previewed The Day After in October 1983. It shook him, and convinced him to attend Pentagon briefings on nuclear war. He became highly disgusted with the idea of nukes.

Then in 1987 he signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty, to which he partially credited The Day After.

  • @ShiggityBlam If you had read through my comments thoroughly, you would have seen that on more than one occasion I have noted that the Reagan Administration's take on nuclear armament can be broken into two distinct periods: before and after social media took on the subject and personalized it.

  • @lothartheterrible Oh. Well, I hadn't; I was following a comment thread from a text search. From the comment I replied to it looked like you saw Reagan as having the "evil empire" attitude toward the Soviet Union through both of his terms, like he was still eager to nuke and pave Russia even after seeing this movie.

  • @ShiggityBlam There are fifteen parts to this video; it is easy for comments to get buried. I'd find it for you myself but to be honest, I just don't feel like it; I have no idea what part I posted that on. It's there if you choose to look.

  • Hi lothar, thanks for the video but would like to ask what has an australian ever done to you?

  • @SandyRiver24 Nothing; I was being sarcastic.
