wavy gravy and the hog farm-an American legend. Only thing is....why do you have a figure of khali mata (black mother) on that wild one stringer? Khali Mata is a godess with a blood lust, not a peaceful thingie.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'on that wild one stringer' and as I had to search the web to find out who Kali Ma was/is I think we can safely assume that I used the image through my own Pig Ignorance.
If i was being clever I'd quote: "Although sometimes presented as dark and violent...More complex Tantric beliefs sometimes extend her role so far as to be the "ultimate reality"
The terms 'ultimate reality' & 'perfect high' seem interchangable to me also. My Ignorance is more likely though :)
@EBursey "In spite of her seemingly terrible form, Kali Ma is often considered the kindest and most loving of all the Hindu goddesses, as she is regarded by her devotees as the Mother of the whole Universe." She's not all that bad !!
"In spite of her seemingly terrible form, Kali Ma is often considered the kindest and most loving of all the Hindu goddesses, as she is regarded by her devotees as the Mother of the whole Universe."
@lunnyboy1 Actually, it's 100% true. Wikipedia has a good write up of it. If reading isn't your strong suit (you seem movie-educated) just watch Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Silly, incorrect RETARD.
@MrGrevy If you look at the ICONOGRAPHY section of the Wikipedia entry for KALI you will see that my original comment is a quote from there, hence the quotation marks. Here is another Wkipedia quote "Many Thuggees worshipped Kali but most supporters of Kali did not practise Thuggee."
My comment merely was a lighthearted remark to show that KALI wasn't all bad. So are you capable of commenting without insulting?
@MrGrevy and you know, many scholars believe that Jesus went to India and studied the Hindu teachings before starting his ministry. Of course he could have just been doing construction work with Joseph.
@moonshinerman Ugh why put up any figure from one of those idiotic religions?? Who wants to have their buzz killed by thinking of moon crickets sacrificing coconuts to their monkey gods??
Shel Silverstien channelled through Wavy Gravy...does it get any better than this? YESSSS! Someone throws in visuals from the Simpsons! Fantastic. Thank you so much.
This is so cool! I use this poem in my substance abuse groups. Shel wrote this for Playboy (I beleive in '76). But he's mostly famous for writing children's poems (Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, The Giving Tree . . .). When I first heard this poem, my jaw dropped because I grew up with his children's books. Do you have any clue where I can get the soundbyte so I can play it rather than the group listening to me?? Thank you for posting your version of the poem and video.
Glad you like it. As far as getting a download of the song I've no idea as I happened to find the MP3 on an old PC I was playing with. On the other Hand- you can download THIS via SaveTube[dot]com and then play it on a PC or laptop using an FLV Player which can easly be dowloaded from Download[dot]com. Unfortunatley that's the best I can do.
No its not me, but I'm gonna take it as a huge complement. First time I've ever been mistaken for someone famous(-ish), despite the fact that He's about 50 years older than me.
Take a look at Wikipedia and his website to see what a great old loon he was/is.
Thank you for posting this gem by Shel (and read superbly with mucho Soul by that "great old loon"). Could you turn us all on with another pearl by the same poet, if I recall well, it was an 'astrological' poem called something like "A Man Who'd Got no Sign" (About 'Gemini Jim & Scorpio Sal')- you'd make my day, as I've heard it last time way back in '73! Thanks in advance...
Unfortunatley, I'm not familiar with Shel at all, and only have this because It was on a second hand PC I bought and it was hidden in one of the root files. Sorry I can't oblige.
How cool is this? I used to be in a band named "Distant Rumble" when I lived in Santa Cruz - and Wavy Gravy introduced the band for one of our shows! I still have a bootleg tape of that concert! Small world indeed...
good stuff...thanks

@lunnyboy1 Haha no she's not you silly wacko. She inspired the brutal Thugee cult for God's sake. Moron.

@MrGrevy Very clever comment, perhaps you should do a little more research before mouthing off.

@lunnyboy1 I never tried.I probably could but it gets less reaction out of people.

@MrGrevy Yes, and Jesus inspired witch burning. So what's your point?
DoctorWholives 4 months ago
@DoctorWholives That religion is a negative, harmful thing and civilized people should avoid it.

@moonshinerman Interestingly enough, I have met Indian doctors with shrines to Kali, as she has the power over death
