when i was 5 i first started watch slam dunk. I loved it and love basketball so i follow sakuragi hanamichi's step, right now im 188cm and 84kg i cannot shoot even when im under the rim, but when it comes to rebounds TRUST ME i will get it. i played for school team for 5 years and wore number 10 every year. For Senior basketball team i put my favourite basketball player is sakuragi hanamichi, and now my highschool basketball career is over and i still watch slam dunk with tears in my eyes.

It's from one of the movie specials - if I remember correctly - the school is Sakuragi's previous love's boyfriend's school..... oh no I've gone cross eyed LOL Sorry that was written very poorly :)

The thing that you're saying that he's based on a japanese guy is kinda correct cause sakuragi is based on Takehiko Inoue - The creator of Slam Dunk/Vagabond/REAL I don't know any of Inoues physical abilities but he started playing basketball for a girl just like sakuragi and then he liked it very much. I bet you've seen a google searched newspaperlike pic but it's actually made up story after Slam Dunk. I mean it's a FAKE.

@ToquiGambit sakuragi maybe has the red hair and rebound skills but when the slam dunk came out rodman was still in pistons when he was acting normal and hadn't the red hair. rodman started acting that crazy and changed his hair after he transfer at spurs. he maybe had the rebound skills already at pistons but there's no way rodman was the model of sakuragi, even the artist of slam dunk denied it.
