  • do you have to worry about a real hard rain/flood washing out the seed/plant before it gets to its full grown height

  • ive got some questions to anyone who can answer them i live in western part of alabama and ive got one hole on our 300 acre place it holds bunches of woodies and ive got everything i need to plant rice but i didnt know if thats even good to plant for woodies and when it floods is the water suppost to go all the way over the rice or does it matter?

  • @duckslayer1014 im not forsure but i dont think it rele matters if u can i think its better to get 2-3 feet of water

  • quick question rusty whats up with the shotgun in the boat??? and next time your at jerrys bait shop we'll have to oder me a stablizer for my bow like the one on your bow..

  • @bowtecharrowbuster its for killing snakes

  • @merganserhunter oh okay i got ya. never thought about that.

  • What verity of rice are y'all using?

  • Do you have any problems with hogs? We have a ton of them in our swamp lease and I am concerned that they are going to tear things up once they find all that soft ground after I disc it up. Great video by the way.

Also do you have to build a berm or dam around any of your holes? And if so is there anything you can recommend to help with seepage? I think some good ol GA red clay will do the trick, just didn't know if there were any other good tricks out there.

  • what months do you do this in?

  • Awesome video! I followed your instructions and I've got an awesome rice crop in my timber holes. One question, I have a lot of weeds mixed in ( Mainly nutt grass) with the rice is there any herbicides I can use to kill it? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks again for the video!

  • @thom1745 . Permit is a good chemical to take care of nut grass. Glad the video helped!! I spray a mixture of facet, surfoil, and stam to keep mine fairly clean. It doesn't have to be perfect just as long as you make enough to feed the ducks. If you get smart weeds or coffee beans then don't worry, they eat those too!!

  • Rusty - In your other video titled "Poundin' in the Flooded Timber- Featherlite Decoys/Rusty Creasey" there did not appear to be any planted rice in the video. Is that because you only plant rice in certain holes to hold the ducks and use others for the actual hunting?

Thanks again Rusty...I love watching your food plot video.....keep'em coming!

  • Thanks a bunch on the spreader recommendation Rusty.

What type of sprayer setup is that? We've been using the same atv tank setup but with a motorized hand sprayer... those folding booms sure would make things go faster!

  • Does that Moultrie spreader you're using work pretty well? Would you recommend any other spreader than that for a guy getting ready to buy one? Thanks in advance.

  • @MrAlt121 . it is actually an earthway spreader. It does an awesome job and spreads everything pretty dang even. I'd highly recommend it! Thx! Rusty

  • have you ever had any luck huntin over millet? I planted some in my hole to see if it helps pull in a few more birds plus it was cheap and easy to plant considerin im a broke 15 year old. We aint had much rain since i planted it but some of it is already comin up. I appreciate any advice you have and hope yall have a better season than i will in my gar hole so i can watch some more of these great videos yall have!

  • @woodiebusters . millett beats not having anything at all. It does ok but will not stand up or last as long as rice. Thanks! Rusty

  • i wish i had that much timber, all i have is about 5 acres of it with one little hole. Have you ever had any luck with millet? Thats what i decided to plant since my hole doesnt usually flood till october. Oh, and while im askin is pro drive one of yalls sponsors?

  • when you hear of flooded timber down south do all people flood it

  • Shoot no. Most places are flooded naturally by rivers, sloughs and creeks getting out of their banks by large amounts of rainfall. But, there are several pieces of property that are flooded for the ducks artificially. However, these are woods that are in the lowland plains and around naturally flooded areas.

  • Hey thanks alot rusty our rice is now about 3 or 4 inches in our holes! When do I need to start flooding it? I've asked a bunch of people and no for sure answer yet. I'd precate yours thanks alot and again great video !!

  • Sounds like you got a great stand of rice!! That's the hardest part!! I'd let it get about 8-10 inches tall and then give it a drink...Just keep the ground moist. You will probably have some weeds come through. That's a critical part we left out of our video. I spray it with herbicides to keep the weeds down. Let me know if i can help. Thanks. Rusty

  • Great video guys, just a few questions for you Rusty- if you dont mind- do you fertilize your rice? and during the stages of growth when is the right time to flood it?

  • I try to fertilize mine when it is 6-8 inches tall. Another dose is good about 3 weeks later but i usually get by with only one application. Thanks!

  • One hell of a good video. Really appreciate it! - Matt

  • When did you plant the rice?

  • I try to plant it anytime between april 15-june 15

  • First off, this is the best informative video I have ever seen in 10 minutes. What brand of rice seed would be the best for these plots?

  • I plant Wells. This is a conventional variety that works perfect in my woods. Any seed dealer can get this variety without any trouble. Thanks! Rusty

  • rusty do you ever hunt at grassy lake in mayflower?

  • now thats some awesome stuff right there. I bet all that hard work is payin off huge for yall around this time. Rusty looks like you do an awesome job keepin that place up. good work, beautiful woods ya got there

  • Looks like you did an awesome job.....I'm sure y'all will be covered up this weekend. Good Luck!

  • Hey Rusty,

Do you flood the fields anytime during growth of the rice or will the rice grow in moist dirt? Can you give sometime of timeframe of when you plant, flood, etc...? Thank alot. Great video

  • Awesome video Rusty! The way you clearly explain each step is very helpful. I have some land on a river in GA and am looking to create a few duck holes. What is the ideal size hole?

  • Thanks Geech! I appreciate it. Any hole will work fine as long as you get a few hours of sunshine each day. It can't be in the shade all day or it won't grow very well. Alot of my holes are between a 1/4 -a 1/2 acre. Those are easy to manage and also big enough to produce. thanks! Rusty

  • nice video looks like great huntin

  • Man they need to do this in Texas. Id kill to have something like to hunt. Are u sponsered

  • Interestin Stuff!!

    Thanks for sharin!

    5*s

  • Does the timber flood naturally there?

  • No it has to be flooded with pumps. The property has levees pulled up around it.

  • thats awsome man, i always have enjoyed watching plots made, ecspecially duck plots. cant wait till this season in the AR timber. LOVE it. wish i had some land i could do that to.

  • what month do you need to plant the plot?

  • You can plant rice anytime between mid April thru the 1st week of July. The earlier the better. Rusty

  • Freddy, does those plots flood there self or do you guys use a pump and well?? Sure does look good .... Thanks for the Videos Scott

  • We actually had a LOT of rain this year and never had to water any of my plots. Normally I'd water about half of them by using a relift and poly pipe. We were wantin' to film that process as well but never were able to. Even on years with less rain the plots I'm not able to water still make pretty good. Rusty
