  • As much as I love Meryl Streep (alot), I really think Glenn Close is going to take best actress (never thought I would say that), but her performance in Albert Nobbs is stellar.

  • Wow Wow claps for this actress, one of the bests i've ever seen!!!!!!!

  • ### is'nt that tv [behind the 2 men] too modern for 1979? ###

  • This video is jyst a sad sample of the movie I saw. Meryl Streep plays Meryl Streep nothing to do with playing Margaret Thatcher. Give the Golden Globe back meryl you really dont desrve it this time and you know it

  • Streep should give up acting in parts where she tries to slander anyone right of her fascist, progressive views. This movie is made by a lefty producer with a lefty cast so they can depict one of the most important people of our time. Too bad they can't find a better way to spend their useless time. What a boorish bunch of bitter bomb throwers. The New York Times and Time magazine like this film? Really! They are even worse people than Streep and Damian Jones.

  • no one can get near Meryl's talent, she's the best actress in the world!

  • This thread is about Meryl Streep's amazing acting and her almost miraculous impersonation of Margaret Thatcher. I do not believe it was intended as a discussion of Margaret Thatcher's politics.

  • I don't know about the movie being akin to hero worship. We shall have to see how accurately Thatcher is portrayed. So far, it's difficult to know because this extract is less than one minute long.

And don't forget that, for many British supporters of the Conservative party, Thatcher's denouement came after some years in power. The rest of the country had her pegged from the get-go.

  • ...Not for nothing was the British Pound Coin known as a Thatcher ... it is because it was thick, brassy, and thought it was a sovereign.

And before anybody leaps on my back for criticizing her, I know what she was like because I lived in the UK for longer than her entire time as a member of Parliament.

  • Regardless of anyone's feelings about Thatcher's policies, Meryl Streep is brillant.

  • @tamarexxe Re: thumbs down¡ Then you should shut your mouth then, Margaret Thatcher should be blame because she DID NOTHING. She is lady or a bitch, the history will tell. The most shameful thing I would like to told you is, you want to believe what you wanted to believe. Those documentaries I sent you proves everything and these were her demerits... And will not erase what she had done. I know more than you. she created and left a tradegy for HK people that last for 22 years!

    Shame on you.

  • Glad she was fell off stairs when she was in Beijing People's Common Hall in 1984!

  • @tamarexxe You the same, better learn about this Maggie Bitch what she does to the Hong Kong People. If she deserved to be praised in the film, I think Hilter will be the next to be praised as well. Glad she was fell off stairs when she was in Beijing People's Common Hall! She was a traitor.

  • @mahingshun Frankly, she did nothing to the people of Hong Kong. Great Britain should never have undertaken the oversee of Hong Kong and she rectified that situation. You show your complete lack of class by referring to a lady as a bitch. This may be acceptable behavior amongst the Chinese, but it is far from agreeable to the rest of us. She cannot be considered a traitor to a country in which she was not a citizen.

  • @tamarexxe Hong Kong's lease to the UK was for a period which always would end on schedule, as it did.

The only contribution Thatcher's government made was to include in the final return agreement the new status of Hong Kong as an administrative region separate from the rest of the PRC ... and those terms had been originally drafted more than 20 years prior to that. She herself did nothing but, as ever, was always ready to take credit for the good, even when there was none.

  • Meryl Streep - The Academy Award Lady

  • Meryl Streep could do Batman.

  • @roberto0709 haha ! so true !

  • Here I vowed to boycott Meryl Streep's "The Iron Lady" for her ignorance to Equality. That film will NOT reserved the Best Film, and Meryl Streep will not win the Best Actress in OSCAR!

  • @mahingshun Firstly, your english is atrocious. Seeing that you clearly lack comprehension of the Queen's English, it won't do for you to criticize an tour de force acting performance that is based on it. Secondly, you are from Hong Kong. Spend some time criticizing your chinese Masters and there litany of crimes against humanity that goes back for decades and then you may reasonably attack Margaret Thatcher. Good Day

  • Is this movie going to show the part when Thatcher posed for pictures and expressed support towards Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet when he was prosecuted by the International Crime Court for crimes against humanity?

  • and the academy award for best actress goes to....

  • I was invited to a sneak preview of this movie : Meryl Streep's attempt to be Margaret Thatcher is absolutely pathetic Streep is a brilliant actress but THIS has to be her worse movie ever. Hopeless effort ...is there any international award for year's worse performance?Move to front Streep!

  • margaret thatcher you a huge BITCH, whore !!

    cheers from argentina

MERYL streep you are an amazing actress..You are one of the last good actresses that stay :D..Im go see the movie only for youuu meryl streep

  • Meryl Streep to Usa is like Judi Dench in London greatest actress

  • @Bluedolphingirl01 Judi Dench is more comparable to Katherine Hepburn - a massively popular person but no great shakes as an actress. Like Hepburn, she only ever plays herself.

  • lol the 2 hand wave. All politicians do that for symmetry.

  • It's interesting that Streep hasn't won an Oscar since 1982. I wonder if this will be the role that finally gets another Oscar?

  • Is it more of a comedy or a drama? What angle will they be focusing on?

  • HOLY SH*T That's accurate

  • This broad is simply the best actress, not just living, but of all time.

  • 0:40 that little voice crack right there wins me over.

  • It doesn't help, of course, that Meryl Streep is infinitely more attractive than the real Thatcher.

  • Holy fuck almost better than the original.

  • Meryl Streep is incredible, no doubt about it, possibly the greatest living actress around. I just hope the film doesn't glorify Thatcher and the conservatives. As much as I love Meryl Streep, I don't think I'd be able to watch it if it did!

  • @bubblekai137

I'm the same but the reverse..if it turns out to be some kind of hatchet job from a left-wing loon's fantasy then I'll be very much disappointed..plus could damage Streep's chances for the Oscar she should surely get judging this 1 minute trailer.

  • @steps1 Agreed. Fingers crossed they found a balance! :)

  • She is, without a doubt, the greatest actress ever.

  • I die!

  • Meryl Street is simply the greatest. I feel another Oscar coming on.

  • What a woman

  • Wooow she looks so different!

  • You have NO IDEA how much I want Meryl to win the Academy Award for this...she's long overdue for another.

Plus, how Mirren got it for playing a queen, Firth got it for playing a king...she must get it for playing prime minister! XD

  • I admire the talent of meryl streep, however I don't appreciate the tone of this movie. That woman doesn't deserve anything akin to hero worshipping.

  • @arabiansanchez eh, its not about the person themselves, its about the Myth, the legend, for good or for bad.

  • @arabiansanchez I agree.

  • Wow she's incredible!

  • Im sure Meryl Streep is a lovely person to meet, but if there is a god she'll be going to hell for stepping into the skin of that harpy.

  • @1986stevensane When you're a lovely person, even copying something evil provides no risk. So she probably won't be going to hell...

  • she doesn't just act, she BECOMES the character. I love this woman!

  • MERYL STREEP BEST ACTRESS OSCAR 2012

D DAY LEWIS BEST ACTOR ABRAHAM LINCOLN OSCAR 2013

  • Wow .. incredible I have to say. Never thought she'd nail it that good. It could have been Thatcher speaking - not to mention the look, the mannerisms, the whole deal. I knew she was good ... I just didn't appreciate she was this good. Streep better make some room in her trophy cupboard.

  • OMG...Meryl Streep and politics..Two of my absolute favs. What a combo ;)

  • me gusto muchisismo. exelente.

  • Thatcher needs to hurry up and die. Evil bitch.

  • Brilliant..Thatcher saved the UK..it was the laughing stock of Europe when she took over from Labour at the end of the 70s

  • @steps1 fuck off back to the daily mail you turd.

  • @marulpragasam hehe you just ooooooooze class! :-)

  • @steps1 Haha, "saved the UK"? Fair enough, the unions grip needed to be challenged. But selling off most of our nationalised industry for a knockdown price, has been disastrous in the long term...lining the pockets of rich B(w)ankers.

The poor got poorer and the rich got richer, if you think that's a positive thing, then fair enough..but I cant even begin to identify with someone who holds that point of view.

  • Well let's look at life under Labour when Thatcher took over: Winter of Discontent, Sick Man of Europe, rubbish piled on the streets, the Unions holding us all to ransom, going to the IMF with our begging bowls AND the dead not being buried..off the map! When she left, as Marr says, Britain was richer, stronger % more self-confident. Does a shiver not go up your spine thinking where we would be if we'd had Labour rule in 80s? I don't deny that some people didn't do well under Thatcher..continued

  • she made mistakes but that is the case with every PM. It's a fact that more mines were closed under Labour than under Thatcher & Major..it's also a fact that Thatcher's working class vote was very strong. Our politics was terminally ill when she took over. I don't think it's a positive thing at all but we've just had 13 years of Labour where social mobility went down and inequality grew!? Still, I thank you for not calling me a "turd" or rabidly asking for Thatcher to hurry up and die.

  • @steps1 Sorry, I just forgot to....

You are indeed a turd and I wish the old hag a speedy death!;)

  • I hate her as much as I hate the real one in this movie! Meryl Streep is amazing!

  • where have i heard this music from ?

  • Stiff competition at the oscars this year....Meryl Streep vs. Marylin monroe (michelle williams plays marylin monroe in my week with marylin.)

  • academy should make a separate category at the awards with the name "meryl streep"...

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! i got the chills watching this!!! Meryl Streep = best actress EVER!!!

  • A movie about the IRON MAIDEN !?? God Help Us !!!!Mind you Meryl looks kinda sexy in this role unlike that sag tit witch who she portrays...................

  • The dingo took moi baaaby!

  • Its amazing to me that I can still watch someone I have been watching in movies my whole life (almost 40 years old!), and not see the actress. I only see the character.

  • I can't wait!!!!

  • wow! exciting! we love you ms. meryl streep! THE BEST!!!

  • thatcher the person is despicable but this looks like a great tour de force perfomance by meryl streep!

  • ZOMG SO EMPOWERING, LOLZ.

    God this will be camp.

  • love the meryl. but beware of glenn close's new film, though.

    that's a hell of a contender.

'albert nobbs', a woman disguised as a man and working as a butler, in a male-dominated 19th century dublin.

close played it onstage and it's been her pet project for 15 years, so...

can you feel it? ; )

  • @nelsonesq I think that maibe they both won the oscar but 2012 have to go to Meryll i don't see her losing again!!

  • I thought this was a Iron man parody....

  • @attrcted2sin Is not because she's Meryl Streep! I mean, did you see this trailer? Did you see this 13 or 14 seconds where she appear and she's completly transform in MT? And not just in makeup o dressing. She IS MT! That's what amaze me! How she become MT in every single aspect. I know this are few seconds, but this just make me can't wait for the movie where I know she would be (once again) AMAZING. And yes I want her to win it because I really think she deserves it since only God know when!

  • Can't wait for this movie to come out! Meryl Streep is the BEST actress ever ever ever!

  • If she dont win every single award for best leading actress. I will kill the entire world. That is all.

  • @MrNsirwilliams - if Glenn Close doesn't win the Oscar for Alfred Nobbs, i will too - so Meryl better not steal her award.

  • Streep is a fine actress but there are those that I prefer over her :|

  • I don't think you can make an oscar determination on the basis of 30 Seconds. Sorry.

  • The head cock at :36-:37 is more than a little creepy. God Meryl Streep is an amazing actress.

  • It would be great to see Margaret Thatcher as Meryl Streep doing Lindy Chamberlain's Aussie accent‎.

  • Will there be any mention of what she did to the miners or Ireland?

  • havin a party when thatcher dies, its jelly and ice cream when thatcher dies

  • female kings speech?

  • Will Judy Davis and James Brolin be doing cameos as the Reagans? One certainly hopes so.

  • Maybe the best actress ever?

  • she's perfect, as always, can't wait for the movie!

  • She is most talent actress. Every movie, where she took a part are great.

  • Она такая талантливая актриса. Фильмы с ней - шедевры

  • Best living actress, Meryl is amazing

  • 5 people will receive a hat and pearls up in their a*s... yes.... that's the tone..!!

  • that character study is ... meryl streep on the peak

  • take a guess who will be nominated for oscar 2012:)

  • Get over yourselves Brits,it's a fucking movie!Besides, you haven't even seen it yet.

  • mamma mia!stupenda!

  • my only hope is that either thatcher dies before this comes out, or lives to see it absolutely bomb, and then dies.

  • Is anybody else getting a Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford vibe?

  • Brits generally dislike her. But the large majority of Americans LOVE her. Beats me why, but it's true.

  • So...it's basically Julia Child with bad teeth?

  • Boooooooooo! Down with Thatcher...cant believe they made a movie thats going to make the Americans like that monster. (extra boos for stealing the Moon music too)

  • ABSOLUTE GENIUS!!!!!!!!!! PERFECTION

  • Ha! Magnificent. Sometimes I get why actors make the big bucks. Could the voice be any more perfect? Let's hope Meryl's immersion in the Thatcher persona teaches her something. Maggie Maximus.

  • LOL at ScattySafari... Britain became an economic power, BUT WHERE ARE WE NOW!? don't you realise that the current mess the UK and the USA are in is because of the economic liberal policies of Thatcher and Reagan? she may have improved our economy, but with hindsight, it doesn't matter now.

  • I would like to see this movie, but I hope they show how she lost power, as she thought she was bigger than the country and we the people kicked her out.p.s yes she did do great at the beginning.

  • @BarrieMitchell the people never kicked her out,, the party did.. she had won the general election 18 months prior to the party removing her

  • @alexandertory Well you say she won she election 18 months prior and you would be right. But her party kicked her out because the people of the country, was not happy so it was that or the party would have been in trouble. As to your age you would not remember all the trouble with Scotland then Wales and finally England, when she brought back the poll TAX ask your parents they might remember, that's when John Major took over. So yes the people did get her removed mate!!!!!!!

  • @BarrieMitchell Firstly, I do know exactly what happened in the 1980s my age does not make me ignorant of those events I probably actually know more about Thatcher and the decade of her power better than you... No the people didn't kick her out, it was soley the party, yes she did increasingly become unpopular but it was the party that soley removed her from office. To make one final point it was not the poll tax scots or welsh that finished her off... it was her anti european stance actually.

  • @alexandertory what are you talking about? why did they kick her out??? becouse she was so unpopular and they knew she was becoming a liability

  • @ZAMPAROAD If you look I say she was becoming unpopular.... especially with middle england....do ur research, it was the anti European stance which caused geoffery howe and Nigel lawson to resign out of cabinet over europe as they felt she was alienating us which promted helstletine to stand against her for the leadership! those were the events those are the facts....

  • And Oscar win at 0:41

  • The Iron Bitch...leader of the LAST PIRATES OF THE WORLD...

  • I hate that bitch... Thatcher, not Streep.

  • @WillyMcGUK Yeah, so much worse than Blair and Brown. Bellend.

  • 1) Thatcher

    2) Churchill

    3) Major

  • What a wonderful lady (Thatcher, not Streep)

    Best PM since Churchill.

  • Brits don't realize how much Americans admired Thatcher in the 1980s. I realize Brits don't think that highly of her. But I think she still remains popular with Americans that were alive in the 80s and 90s. Probably why they made this movie--- they know Americans like seeing Thatcher.

  • @lancetop Luckily the Americans didn't have to live under her. They worship her from ignorance and they're all the happier for that :-)

  • Meryl Streep gives me chills! Love her<3

  • the music is called welcome to lunar industries

  • @hannahmoulden MOON ftw

  • @hannahmoulden And it's totally inappropriate, too.

  • @FifthContinentMusic Could you just stop criticizing everything?

  • @MimiLovesMeryl Well, Mimi, I only criticise what deserves to be criticised. Now take that.

  • what song is that in the background

  • @tropicfever99 It's by Clint Mansell. It's from the film "Moon", I heartily recommend giving it a watch.

(Forget the track name though sorry)

  • The top half shown of "The lady is not for turning" is OK but I wish we were able to see her bottom half showing her Jackboots and "The Handbag" Otherwise carry on Meryl!

  • the academy awards for best female actress in a leading role has found it's owner.

  • @sellera "Whietwashing or Glamourising"?

Who would you propose to take on the role? Sharon Osbourne????

  • @themanwithadog why do you ask that? I've just said the academy award would go to meryl streep for this role.

  • What a great Actress. Superb.........

  • another oscar...end of story

  • I had no doubt she would get Thatcher right xD

  • Meryl I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Only FOUR slots left in next year's Oscar best actress race!

  • MERYL!! ♥

  • if this even vaguely tries to redeem thatcher i will fucking hulk out i swear to god

  • Meryl is awesome.

  • @TrucKxD It's January 2013... lol, joking

  • MERYL STREEP: BEST ACTRESS EVER! MERYL STREEP: BEST LEADING ACTRESS 2012! If Meryl Streep does not win the Oscar for "Best Leading Actress" would be one more enormous fail for the academy for not giving the Oscar for the real person who deserves it.

  • @krikrisss

You haven't even watched the movie! I love MS but she 'd think you have to be an idiot to reward someone before seeing the performance.

  • Comment removed

  • @seb389 If that is what you think then good for you! :) I'm rewarding her already cause I have no doubt she would be AMAZING like in every single movie of her... Meryl Streep have the talent and the compromise of doing an INCREDIBLE job every single time... That's why I know she deserves an Oscar (and since quite a long time...)

  • can't wait! :)

  • just like my finance teacher said to me: "my favorite actress and the worst politician"

  • I see another Oscar for her!

  • My god she looks and sounds just like her

  • OMG! Meryl is amazing, is that good enough to compete at the Oscars, the trouble is that Glenn Close has the power to hopefully win Meryl Streep!

  • OHMYGOD. I CANNOT wait.

  • It says January 2012, I hope it runs in L.A. and N.Y before 2011 ends in order for the film and her performance to qualify for this coming year's Academy Awards'; if they wait til early, early 2012 it might get overlooked.

  • @corfan99 it's out on Dec 16, 2011 in North America

  • @dands01 Thank you for the info. Looking forward to this film.

  • @corfan99 It will, in IMDb it says: December 16th, 2011 (USA)

  • Nice but one has to remember one vital thing about Thatcher: she had NO SENSE OF HUMOUR WHATSOEVER. i know: it seems inhuman but it's quite common: lots of people have no capacity for wit or laughter or irony AT ALL.

  • WOW!

  • MERYL IS THE BEST actress the world has ever seen WOW. goosebumps this woman could do no wrong

  • @Xnjzfyneztx You are so right, she has Thatcher almost to perfection

  • Holllllllllyyyyy Shit............Meryl Streep is scary as Thatcher. This Oscar is hers already, no other actress is gonna top this. She looks and sounds just like her. Frightening.

  • hats off for Meryl Streep

  • For God's sake! ♥_♥ I'm dead! This is AWESOME! Meeeeryl is THE BEST ACTRESS! ♥

  • what's with the comical smile? it's so meryl's (not thatcher's). i thought it would turn comic
