  • Interesting at 3:52 they show the viewers what all the little symbols in Prevue's listings mean. I don't know how I missed this when I watched it in 2006. lol

  • What is the name of the song from 5:42 to 5:50?

  • Who's that guy in the SUPERFIGHTS ad? he looks familiar. Great catch!

  • Why would they say scrambling is done by the satellite to prevent people who don't pay to cough up the money?? Cable and sat are two different animals. That looks like a ZENITH cable box, too!!

Also, the DMX was an early form of digital cable. I miss the old analog days. How long did they scramble WGN and TBS?

  • 12/3/1993

  • lol when I was browsing the Killer Tracks music library, I found out that the short jingle at 2:18 is called 'In Pursuit'.

  • What Paragon Cable/Bright House Network system was this taken off?

  • @caa1000 - This is from Paragon Cable in Portland, Oregon.

  • @jmkord Thanks! I thought it was a pre-Bright House Paragon Cable, since some of the Paragon became Bright House Networks. I think the Orlando and Tampa Bright House Networks used to be Paragon Time Warner Cable systems, so that's why I wondered if that was the case.

  • "Ta-anks Ch-uuuk" ;)

  • Wow I Remember TV Guide Of Paragon Is Two Old Time Warner Cable NYC Is The Best HD Now

  • Ooh, good information.

  • I use to have that hare in LA.

  • I use to have that here in LA,

  • Back in the day, we had what was called CVI (now time warner cable of upstate NY) and this reminds me of them. The "get the box" promo was a good marketing idea, too. We had boxes in all our sets (and still do, now HD) The chick @ 2:18 saying they scramble due to satellite signals had NOTHING to do with paragon scrambling! The DMX was an early form of digital cable too. I'm willing to bet this was a 512 mhz system as most back then were 300 mhz (there abouts) Thanks for the video - Rob

  • Paragon cable wasn't the first to scramble TBS and WGN Rogers did that in the 80s and Time Warner San Antono still does that. The only plus side is you could purchase HBO and/or Showtime without a converter box. Time Warner San Antonio basic sucks compared to Time Warner Austin In Austin you get WGN included, plus CSPAN and 2 music channels. In San Antonio it's locals only and holy roller channels. Has anyone sued time warner under the 1st amendment on this? Channels I don't want LOL.

  • Dwight is an Idiot! So Dwight what if you live in an apartment complex built without a crawlspace for a wall fish/custom? They won't install additional outlets for you if the apt complex objects and what is your only option if you have more than 1 tv? a splitter, if splitters are so bad why does radioshack make them, dwight? I have 4 splitters and an amplifier and my apartment and no ghosting or snow. So much from dwight the rocket scentist.

  • The music that plays from 0:17-0:47 is "Straight Ahead" off of the "Killer Tracks" music library. I know its not the song that everyone's been looking for for years now, but it caught my ear because it was also used in a circa-1995 commercial for "Headline News", featured in one of my videos ("Vintage January 9-January 18, 1995 Television Commercials")

  • anyone knows the prevue guide song at 0:01-0:14

  • Comment removed

  • Its called "Opening Act", off of the James & Aster production music library (now defunct). Check my videos, I uploaded a full, CD-quality version of it!

  • Not u "takingbacksados" i was talking to "hdjsuw"

  • Does anybody have the Paragon Cable commercials with that theme song "Coming through for YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU!"

  • Does anyone know the song at 5:44-5:52?

  • wow i have mountain cablevison but with prevue and tv guide and it still does that! D:

  • attn aliens prevue channel + chronic =destruction ps im livin proof , i lived through this ''weedtime '' adventure , i had a panic attack after i smoked a joint and watched prevue channel ,has anyone had a similar experience ?

  • NO!! Now STFU!!

  • I remember the Lifetime Network! They had Supermarket Sweep and the Shop 'till You Drop on there.

Now the Lifetime network is full of crap, crap and more crap

  • WOW...Paragon Cable must have been/ (or must be) horrible!

  • Comment removed

  • And they had "Classic Concentration", too! I've never seen it on TV.

  • Thanks, those are some GREAT TIPS

  • OMG, hearing Arrested Development in that commercial for DMX (which I totally wanted back in 1993) is a total time warp moment for me -- they remain the only hip-hop group I've ever liked! Actually, the whole of this clip was a time warp for me, esp looking at the programming lineup -- remember when Comedy Central aired good standup? Or when MTV still showed videos? Or when you could actually *learn* from TLC? No wonder we need 500 channels these days; the original 40 don't air jack anymore.

  • AHHHHH!!! I GOT TO GET THE BOX!!!

  • Yea the splitter thing is mostly BS. Yes the more splitters you use the worse the picture will get. I have Cox and guess what they use out side, not one but two splitters. One splits to go to my livingroom and the next splitter. The second goes for my internet connection then splits to go to the second floor cable.

  • lol our cable system didn't have this service until about 2001 or so.

  • "Just Watch Us Now"?! You'd better hope NBC didn't sue Paragon Cable over that...

  • Or even the Family Channel.

  • This is the music from 93';I loved that backround music, please keep posting from 93';that music rules.

  • You can add as many tv sets as you wish..and Install a Indoor Amp.

  • TBS and WGN being costing extra that is sooo stupid Austin and Houston Tx market don't do that. Because Time Warner San Antonio used to be owned by paragon basic costs $15 a month without ch 12 Tbs and WGN Ch 18. I wonder if over there you could get HBO and Showtime without the Cable Box because in San Antonio you can. In Houston Basic costs about $15 w/o superstations and in Austin you get WGN and C-span I for $10 a month Basic. So the superstation advertisment is a load of BS.

  • The First Choice Logo I remember that BTW I also had DMX digital music express you know that service for only 9.95 plus 2.00 for the DJ Remote. It is a shame Time Warner does not ofer that standalone you have to have "digital Cable" to get that. Also the one Tv per outlet before 1994 they used to charge a monthly fee per cable outlet. I installed one extra and lied to them!!

  • That older woman with the blonde hair is hilarious! No wonder they don't exist anymore.

  • You gotta get the box...YOU GOTTA GET THE BOX! Those infomercials where they told their *guinea pigs* why things were happening made me drowsy...

  • Look at 3:19, you can see when TBS did Turner time

  • Yeah, I remember that +5 stuff. What was that all about, anyway? Thanks for pointing that out.

  • This was one of the best one's.

  • paragon cable is also home of high school football games since it was first broadcast in 1987,but prevue was not on TV until 1988

  • They're basically asking their customers to leave them the hell alone. Classy LOL

  • "Good Information."

  • You gotta get the box!

  • This video won't load for some reason

  • Well, try again. It's been a month now.

  • Is this for real? It seems that Paragon is abusing their natural monopoly privilage. Back then if I had lived in your area, I would have been one of DirectTV's first customers. They didn't run that crap on the cable channels too did they?

  • This seriously makes me wish that the TVGuide never bought the Prevue Channel.

  • When I was in Oregon back in 1998, Paragon Cable simply became a Pay-Per-View Previews Channel for The Prevue Channel. This was when they mixed many promos of both Paragon Cable ads and Pay-Per-View previews of both Movies and Special Events.

  • Oh man, I LOOOOVE that you actually have these on video!

  • To add, I loved the background music in 1993. The background music from Paragon Cable (the interviews) I think was used around this time on Sneak Prevue.

  • I feel bad for that lady having to ask the employees those dumb questions. I liked looking at the Prevue Guide Key that appeared with movie ratings and how to read the guide.

  • The woman from Paragon resembles Anne Murray a bit, except her voice.

  • YES! The family channel is showing Maniac Mansion!!!

Wow, this is back when everyone in the world didn't have the awful choices of Adelphia and Time Warner...

Hmm??? The playboy Channel *turns on Ch 51*

  • That's true. I should be lucky none of those companies ever tried to set foot inside Toledo either.

  • Sale of the Century and Joker's Wild on USA? Sweet!

  • Love seeing the Prevue Channel gaffes in this where you have two screens of stuff happening at once. Usually one of those screens would've been keyed in with the gradient blue-black background and the captions of what this was and where to find it. Like noticing the BS the cable company had to say. Where they that stupid? My house had multiple spliters everywhere! Also of note, the scroll is terribly slow for the guide. Mine was of moderate speed.

  • Wow, I had Paragon in the early 90's, I'm so glad not to have those bozos anymore. Paragon wants you to pay for more outlets (extra monthly fee) instead of using splitters. Guess what they use in your attic? SPLITTERS! They were the absloute WORST cable company I've ever had.
