so if you use your right hand to punch, you need your right leg in the back to throw all of the force with the help of your leg? the same with the left.
Hi! I just want to let you know that your video clips helped me succeed in my power boxing class and I want to thank you for it :) All the girl in my class think you're great.
so if you use your right hand to punch, you need your right leg in the back to throw all of the force with the help of your leg? the same with the left.
Do you always have to turn your hips when you punch? Because they say it gives you more power in your punches, but Im not sure how you can turn while punching. thanks
To practice all of this that your teaching me, what can I use? I'm a beginner, and have no gear or anything to practice with. All I have are gloves. So what can I use to practice on?
@schoolboy2012 you don't want your shoulders squared to your opponent, you want them angled to create a smaller target. Squared shoulders = big target + less power in your cross & other punches.
@ThunderJumpMan back heel off the ground is good. It allows you to get the right off quicker than if your back heels on the ground. You don't want to be flatfooted.
@ChadHowseFitness Thanks a lot of these helpful tutorials! I want to ask a question regarding the boxing stance: do you balance your body weight on both of your feet (50/50) or have it more on one of them (either front or back)?
@n1tmare Shaddowboxing is HUGE. Just as important as using a bag. If you can get a bag at a reasonable price, or ask your gym to get one, then do that. If not, practice in the mirror, it's a great starting place.
@DCELMOProductions yes. If you're a southpaw you basically want to do the opposite that an orthodox fighter will do (left hand back, protecting chin, right hand forward ready to jab).
@DCELMOProductions orthodox: right leg back, right hand back. southpaw, left foot back, left hand back. Whichever your dominant hand is dictates your stance.
Good video. I've never done anything as physically demanding as boxing, so I have to ask;
you said stay on the heels of your feet, right? So when your opponent throws a punch and it connects, how would you prevent yourself from falling back?
@0mrme0 I was saying stay on the 'balls' of your feet, or your toes. Don't sit back on your heels, because you're right, you won't have the balance or mobility you need in a fight.
Thanks alot for the video's man. I'm training in Jujitsu and karate and we just started sparring a while ago. My boxing fundamentals are pretty weak. These vids will help me a lot. Thanks again.
i think im a good fighter but it seems everytime i get into a fight i dont remember what to do so my question is how do i stay focused in a real fight and how can i make my agrenalin not overwhlem me
@MrChrisrocks1212 - Practice. It's like any 'scary' situation. The more you're in it, the calmer you'll get. Same goes with public speaking, playing in the finals of a big tournament and so forth. The more you practice, the calmer you'll get and the clearer you'll be able to think.
If you are right-handed then you have your left leg front and right leg back, right?

@TypicalBlondeChick It doesn't have to be a big movement, but your hips are always involved in your punches.

I've seen other stances with the back heel slightly off the ground... Which is better? Or is it personal preference?

@ThunderJumpMan back foot should be off the floor unless you throwing a hook with your front hand then your front foot should be upjust for the spin
