Where were you when JFK was shot? Perhaps watching Ole Miss win their last SEC championship.
The name OLE MISS derives from the 19th century term referencing the plantation mistress. Their Colonel Reb mascot represents the pre-civil war days in the deep-south. NEWS FLASH: The North won the war. Lets move on.
Colonel Reb was actually modeled from an African American, Jim Ivy, that lived in Oxford. He was a well known and liked man. Do not argue things you do not know anything of. Thank you.

The absurd claim that Colonel Reb derives from "Blind Jim" Ivy (son of slave Matilda) is rebuked when looking at the mascot's features. He is so vanilla he looks like Mark Twain.
Fans of OleMiss hold the school in much higher esteem than it deserves. The student body is composed of ignorant, obnoxious slobs.
The academics are awful. What world changing developments have come out of Oxford EVER? This superiority complex is a joke! A bunch of hicks "playing college" and husband hunting.
Your anger shows that you are clouded in your judgement. I'm sorry sir, but you lost any and all respect that you had with your last comment. Not worthy of arguing with you. Believe what you want. Those of us who go there or know Ole Miss like family know the truth. We really do not care what everyone else thinks. Good day.
No anger here. I've spent lots of time at numerous learning institutions like Rutgers, Ole Miss, Michigan, Mich State, Indiana, Miss State, UCLA, Memphis and Purdue. Ive NEVER seen such unjustified pomposity as I have among the Ole Miss student body. Not even at schools that have a rich history of positive global influence, which Ole Miss conveys very little of outside of John Grisham and..Trent Lott (a stretch).
Truth hurts I guess. A good day to you sir, and all those in Mississippistan.
You forgot Thad Cochran, William Faulkner, and the Mannings. Oh, and University of Mississippi Medical Center surgeons performed the world's first lung transplant in man and transplanted the heart of a chimpanzee - man's closest genetic relation - into the chest of a dying man.Ole Miss has one of the top three honors colleges in the nation. Last but not least, The University of Mississippi was also the site of the first presidential debate of the 2008 election. Jealous??
Cochran?! Wow, never would have guessed that a US Sen. from MS would have gone to college in...MS! ANY school existing for over 100yrs surely has interesting trivia tidbits to boast about. The point is that OleMiss is FAR less in stature & accomplishment than its supporters would indicate. Example: "Walk of Champions." The last time OleMiss won the SEC title was around the same time of the JFK shooting. I wonder why Peyton didn't go there. Top 3 honors colleges? It isnt even a Public Ivy!
@LeighRay again you have no idea what your talking about. and yea "truth hurts" ole miss is a great college and you know it there is no need arguing it just admit it
Where do I begin? I live in Desoto County, 45 minutes away from Oxford. I graduated from Southaven HS. I have many friends who are 2nd and 3rd gen Ole Miss alums. I love these friends dearly. But in general Ole Miss is full of ignorant hicks and obnoxious slobs with an inexplicable superiority complex. Yes, the academics are a joke. Your inability to compose an entire sentence without a single misspelling, punctuation error or sentence fragment is evidence of this.
@LeighRay read olemiss9432 comment, ok, then never even try to make ole miss look bad because you know nothing about us apparently and if you have anything else to say nobody cares so don't bother.
@LeighRay you know what, everything you just said is a lie. i am a senior at ole miss and the academics great and our student body is awesome. and if you dont believe me ASK THE REST OF THE COUNTRY!!! and where have you gotten this information that our academics are bad and our student body is bad? YOU HAVENT! and like i said ask anyone ole miss is nothing you just said.
@LeighRay WRONG!!!! Ole Miss comes from our yearbook name and stuck with the university. Our mascot is derived from a black man who sold peanuts outside the stadium that would dress in his sunday best and cheer the Rebels on.
I ran on the field after this game... It was one of the most amazing experiences EVER... I would love for Ole Miss to be back up like it was here... We can only hope for the future.(and the firing of Pete Boone)
Yeah and Joe Lee Dunn was looking for a job halfway through the season. Couldnt keep a job at Ole Miss, State, Or Memphis.. Maybe Jackson State has an opening for you!!
