i think it was really sweet how ringo dealt with johns not being there by pretending he was out to lunch i would never have been able to do that because i would just cry
Ringo moved me to tears talking about recording without John in the room and how he dealt with it by pretending he (John) just stepped out for a few minutes and would be back....if only that were so for John and (now) George.....God, I feel so lucky to live in an age (technically) where I can sit in the comfort of my own home and watch these guys and listen to them....and bringing all the magic back again.....Beatles 4Ever....xoxo
Imagine how zany, fun and off the wall the jams would've been had John been there. Good stuff as it is, but John would have put the Beatle atmosphere completely back in its place.
I think it's sweet that Ringo mentioned the boys pretended that John was just out to lunch! It is so great to hear John's voice and have the Beatles all together again!!
George (thinking): I'll play whatever you want me to play, or I won't play at all if you don't want to me to play. Whatever it is that will please you, I'll do it.
Always when Ringo gonna say something Paul takes the word from him and starts talking about something else... Paul seems like he don't care what Ringo says.
I think he clearly was 'putting it down'. All the things he's singing about in Imagine are things that pretty clearly he saw as unhealthy. Consumerism, killing driven by religion and nationalism, manipulation of poeple through the carrot and stick of heaven and hell.
The book "Gospel According to the Beatles" has an interesting story about John's conversion to Christianity after seeing the mini series "Jesus of Nazareth."
Actually, George met Elvis backstage at MSG in late 1971. George was in NYC to supervise the editing of the Concert for Bangladesh concert movie. He got backstage pass for an Elvis concert. George complimented Elvis on his version of "Something".
Yeah, he said "IMAGINE" there's no heaven. You obviously didn't get it. I think John was saying, "Imagine there's no heaven-what would happen then?" Imagine there's no countries-what would the world be like then. It's about possibilities, about challenging all the hard and fast rules of life, about questioning things and asking "What if?" He wasn't putting it down, he was trying to provoke people into examing themselves and their beliefs, prejudices, what they KNOW, or THINK they know.
I don't think so. After all, Lennon said:"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first - rock 'n' roll or Christianity." I agree!
That was from an article about an interview Lennon gave in 1966, 24 years before his death. I'm guessing his attitude may have changed or been tempered by maturity. Besides, I wasn't talking about his beliefs, I was talking about what the words of Imagine meant to me. Your interpretation is your opinion, not a fact.
"I like hanging out with you guys." If ony they had realized that 40 years ago they might have gotten over their difficulties and carried on together into the '70s.
Awesome.... i can't remember who did the interviews... i think it was jools holland and???? but the crew get paid to have a gig from the beatles.... nice!
se ve como que si george no quisiera interpretar blue moon of kentucky, pese a la insistencia de paul. no se, es lo que yo percibo. (no por nada le dice "solo una version corta")
Brilliant!!! Their song at the start... just how amazing would it be to be in that room while the were singing and playing their guitars like that... purely organic Beatles. I hope the camera people lapped it up.
I think what George meant was that he did not like what Elvis had become. To get back to your obsevation, you must admit that it's one thing to move on from "She loves you" to "All things must pass", and it's another to go from "It's alright mama" to performing Karate moves during Las Vegas concerts.
True, but I think George didn't realize alot of the great songs Elvis during the "Jumpsuit" era such as Suspicious Minds, Burnning Love, Always on my mind, An American Trioly ect.

No disrespect towards George, but Elvis had moved on from the style that George was wishing he would perform.
Just like the Beatles had moved past their mop top, Beatlemania days both in terms of style and music.
Harrison, McCartney and Starr did take in to account how popular that type of music Elvis was doing in the 70's was in the U.S. back then.
Acts like Elvis, Tom Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., Robert Goulet, Neil Diamond wre big draws in and out of Vegas with those types of performances.
