  • so how many years does it take off set the cost of this sports car sport version $130,000 compared to a $60,000 flat 6 gas powered vehicle??

  • why dont we put 3 tesla motors in a big rig and cover the trailer with solar panels? am i the only one grossed out when a big rig farts black smoke at an intersection? and maybe do the same thing to buses and trains and RV's. the sun is out for the busiest parts of the day, we should milk it.

  • good job. Now find a way for normal people to buy one?

  • Try Asian women **busizz4me.info**

  • @ GibsonMaster45 wtf are you talking about... lol, this car is obviously not for you as you couldn't afford even the battery in this vehicle. Do some research. And your gas comment IS GAY. so STFU.

  • dude electric is cool and all, but like there will be a time were fuck heads are going to make gas engines illegal..idk if thats true, but like ppl with big blocks and road runners, thats their passion. if u take away gas motors , u take away ppls passion. WHICH IS GAY

  • despite the fact the top speed is limited, its funny to hear that broad drooling over the speed that a 10 year old honda accord could easily get to.

  • we are definitely going to need more coal power plants.

  • @psychocycledad

Power generation plants, even coal burning ones, are inherently more efficient and less polluting than vehicles due to economies of scale and the ability to more efficiently remove pollutants from a smaller number of much larger fixed locations.

Also, an electric car is far more efficient than a gasoline car, so the amount of pollution generated by producing the electricity to drive an EV is much less than the pollution from a typical combustion engine for a given distance.

  • why does great products and ideas come from some unkown startup?

shouldn't something like this come out of detroit or GM ?

GM said there is no market for [expensive]electric cars ?

Tesla has no problem selling 109K$ cars

  • Great car...6000 plus laptop batteries....wow..

  • that is based on the lotus elise

  • Yes very nice this Is,but...the electric coming from coal, still not green enough :( but I bet It has a wonderful quiet ride,we could use less stressful noise such as a roaring motor, scientist r saying all this noise that surounds us like for example cars, r affecting our enviroment such as birds, they r now singing a much different tune then what they usually sing!

  • I think anyone who can afford this $100,000 car can afford solar panels...

  • This car is sick.. Enough said.. It looks awesome as hell and its electric.. This should shut up some people and honestly I think thats what they wanted to do.. "Electric cars are slow".. Oh yeah check out this Tesla Roadster.. Draw Back, High price tag.. But i guess its compareable to a corvette.. Still more expensive.. Lower the price and you have a gold mine.. Right now, electric cars are USUALLY not to save money..

  • it's still not "green" though. The electricity comes from a coal power plant (which are less green than internal combustion engines), so if anything, we will still be reliant on a different kind of fossil fuel.

  • Comment removed

  • That's the producer's problem, not the consumers.

Switch to nuclear energy, and everything will be green enough.

  • Why does the electric have to come for a coal power plant? Once again I'm sure whomever purchases this can afford solar panels..

  • its expensive being green

  • @thataznswimmer all new technologies are expensive initially, look at how much plasmas were when they first came out, you need to "jack" prices at the beginning to cover your research and development costs.

  • How is this car in crash-tests?? How well does a Tesla drive in snow?? What is the lifespan of the massive battery packs?? What happens to the batteries in a bad accident?? What sort of cargo space is there in this car??

  • respectfully, i think you've missed the point of a sports car, particularly this car. sports cars follow a similar vein to street bikes, as in, to answer all of your questions above, it sucks. however, no toyota camry, which does or could excel in every area you've mentioned, has ever raised the bpm of any gear head: appliances. these are all questions that consumer reports would answer. they BASH great cars all the time, for whatever reason.

hey! who took my issue of motorhead monthly?

  • yea you're right.

I still rather get an xi335 beamer :)

  • UTFG

  • how much does it cost to CHARGE one of these things though?

  • i think it was like 20 cents. i think the average cost of power per megawatt is .8 cents (it might be 8 cents i dont remember).

  • The battery costs a ton though and it will wear out after a while so it eats up all the savings from not buying gas.

  • well if they make this car wireless then they dont have to worry about the battery! nikola tesla already made the technology 100 yrs ago! i have reproduced it on my youtube site! its very important, the tesla roadster or any electric car will be able to have INFINITE MILAGE! the wireless energy is obtainable anywhere! only a resonant antenna system to obtian the energy to run the electric motor is needed! no battery at all with a wireless energy system, it would be like radio but with more enegy

  • except inductive charging isnt efficient at all and it wouldn't be able to charge a vehicle fast enough for it not to need a large bank of batteries. They have come up with alot of inductive charging ideas.

  • this is nothing to do with inductive charging, no batteries at all would be needed. energy would be obtained anywhere on the earth instantly!

  • battery cost $30,000.

    fuck that,,, lol

  • damn tht car will save u alot of money frm gas n its like a toy car you charge n play lol

  • it's not going to save you money with that price. If you're worried about money, the prius is probably a better option. I did the math. I drive that thing to get between 51-55 mpg, and the thing is environmentally friendly

  • yea but this car is electric, so no need for gas.

  • again though, at the price they are offering right now, it's still not economically viable. Environmentally speaking, the coal used to make most of the electricity in this thing also means it's not environmentally viable either. Until major changes are made, you're better off with a regular gas powered car with cleaner burning fuel.

  • That's my new dream car. Used to be a Porsche 911 Turbo but gas cars SUCK!

  • I hate how the big 3 come out with stuff like the chevy volt and claim to be all green, but you know the're all buddy-buddy with the oil companies. Tesla is great, and when I have an extra 100K lying around I'm gonna buy me a roadster.

  • Ronn Motor Company's Scorpion looks like the Tesla.. an electric car is ok.. but in my opinion I think hydro- cars are better.. since the water used be the car will be re-used over and over again.. solar cars need better models.. i really like the Tesla..

  • You mean the water is reused when the sun evaporates it from the ocean and deposits it on higher ground again? Re-used when it can again be used to make hydroelectric power to charge the batteries of your electric car?

Or, are you one of the multitude of people who think that energy can be free?

  • well i believe thats why more eco friendly cars are using energy rather than making them Hybrids because it cost less... and yes thats exactly how the water will be reused in hdro- cars.. i just found out about them in a show called Futurecar on Plant Green..

  • That works only for the minority of us who can make hydro power. What about all those people who live on flat ground and burn coal to generate electricity? Coal powered cars?

  • Ronn Motor Company's Scorpion burns GASOLINE and the makers don't even advertise what sort of fuel economy to expect.

Not what you would call an economy car.

  • Well considering the are 0 emissions, no oil burning (hence less maintenance because nothing burns) and the gas is cheaper I wouldn't be surprised if 100K is pretty cheap for this car, considering its faster than a Porsche 911.

  • Fossil fuel is still used to generate the electrical power, but clean electricity is on the rise so I think true 0 emission can be achieved in the future.

  • Yep, thats pretty true, and people are trying to make a eco-friendly car that doesn't produce as much CO2 emissions as gas motors do. Hydrogen DOES produce Green House Gases but only 99 % less than fossil fuels. Electricity can be made from solar panels so you can use it then. So what I think would be better is a electric car, hence it can go fast anyway like the Tesla. Besides, sport cars ARE expensive anyway. And this doesn't cost as much for fuel, so that raises the price up a bit.

  • The range is not a problem, the infrastructure is the problems, there are lots of gas pumps and little electric pumps.

If instead of charging and wait an hour per charge i could switch batteries at a "gas station" (as long as mine was in a good shape) and the one i had instaled would stay there. The service could cost a minor fee and switching batteries takes 10mins top.

Then the range would stop being such a problem.

  • EV RULES !

  • 250 miles at .01 per is $2.50, not $4 per recharge.

  • If you have 100k to drop on this car, im sure you have the bling to get you, and the car wherever you want to be.

  • It's only half that ^^

  • the problem with electric cars is........you cant go on long trips. 250 miles is only a 3.5 hr drive on a nice highway. that means i would drive from houston to san antonio and then i would have to pull over and find a plug in the wall and then wait for who knows how long.....ill keep using dinosaur juice.

  • But this is problem is one of country not the car. In Europe the cities and way of life was well in place before the combustion car. Driving 250miles+ in Europe in most cases means leaving your country... for 99.9% of journeys 250miles is fine for most.

The US suburb transtate commuting idea was a massive mistake. I would string up the oil/car companies.

  • US suburb Transtate commuting idea?

the US is really big like Russia/China/Brazil/India. If you are big then it takes longer to get to other major cities. but im referring to vacation trips.......noone really drives more than 15 miles away on a normal day.

our country needs is speed trains.

  • Yeah, but people expect cars to be able to do every journey hence the huge interstate highways and a long history of large bore slow recepricating engine vehicles like cadilacs etc.. For a day to day hourney 250mile battery life is fine. If you need to go further I fully agree transport links like trains should be in place. But heres the problem.... people don't like to forget the past. You give a dog a steak, it wants steak every day and thus there is opposition on cars like this based on range

  • If i wanted to go ride rollercoasters in San Antonio or Arlington, move to another city/state, drive to a casino in Louisiana, visit relatives in another city for a holiday, go to someone's college graduation in another city, porting a new car to a different dealership in another city.........basically doing many normal things where i would go to another city would be impossible or very difficult if i had this car. so....range is a problem. Tesla was a genius, glad he has some recognition now

  • I agree. But a petrol powered car does not have that range either. Its just that we spent 50yrs developing a robust petrol station infrastructure. In the same way if electric cars ruled highways would come with tram like power rails in the middle.

The problem REALLY is our society and life styles we have. We are too spread out and energy inefficient. Everything comes from china, nothing is local. Huge commuting is a norm. When actually it was all unsustainable whatever we used.

  • my crown vic can go about 150 miles farther than this car, and then it only takes me a couple minutes to fill up again....not bad!

i wish there were great subways/trains everywhere so i never had to drive :(

  • 45 minutes to charge fully. pull over for lunch/coffee and your charged for another 250 miles...whats your point?

Oh and it costs about $4 to fully charge compared to your dinosaur juice... oh and its faster than a porshe....oh and it needs hardly any maintenance...no oil changes or filters etc...

  • it takes 3.5 hours to recharge, not 45 min.

and $4 for a full charge means nothing when the car costs over $100k.

its got 1000 lbs of batteries, 6831 total...im sure there will be some "maintenance", especially since its basically the first of its kind.

  • latest charger is 45 minutes, $100k for a car that hits 60 in 3.7 secs...(Latest model Roadster Sport) is a good deal. maintenance is once every 12 months, hardly any moving parts. How often do you do maintenance on your laptop/cellphone battery??? Flea from the Chillipeppers said "makes my Porshe feel like a golf cart."

  • well hopefully it works better than a cell phone...damn dropped calls and recieving messages too late if ever!

they need to make one that doesn't look exactly like a Lotus Elise...and maybe big, long, low, lots of chrome, smooth ride...then maybe i would reconsider

  • top speed is 125. it's electronically limited to 125.

  • moristero, electric cars are not built just for helping the environment. they are built because they are much better than petrol.

  • Electric cars are the future. the only problem is that there is very little demand. with more demand the prices will decrease. electric cars are better thn petrol in almost everything except price.

  • im so gonna buy one...

  • I hate electric cars they are shit or at least thats what i thought until i found out about tesla. This thing is awsome if i had loads of money id buy one as a toy. Carnt i just buy the motor and put it in my electric fork truck at work lol.

  • Where can I buy it?

  • cool!

  • Wanted Tesla Car, new or used, also buy options and reservations.

    HELP ME!!!

    Thank you

  • People must know about the electric car and the government must see it through. Make people change for the better. Does America need oil tax that bad? I dunno. I hope we/congress/America are/is thinking for the earth. We must change. The earth is really affected by CO2.

  • Sure now how about putting the TESLA in Hockenheim or Le Mans against the Porsche?

As the speed DOUBLES the energy required to keep the car moving QUADRUPLES and thus the range available on a full charge collapses.

  • Dude, how many people drive that many miles in a day? I rarely drive more than 100 miles a day. I don't even get close to 200 miles when I bring my Z to a track day.

They aren't trying to make a car for competition on the track. They are trying to make a car that is quick off the line, has a no torque "curve" (because torque is flat as a tabletop), that is nimble, that is stylish and that is fun to drive. And, they succeeded.

I drive 10Tenths when I go to the track, but I still want one.

  • in about 2 years that comment you just put out is gonna seem like a joke. in fact it already does since you havent a clue of what youre saying anyay. and you dont think they wouldnt replace the battery during the race? thay would replace it 2 times maybe, and this lovely porsche of yours would refuel how many times? 6?

  • The future was 10 years ago, with NiMH battery EVs doing 150+ miles per charge with potential to sell them for $20k in mass production(See a study titled "Evaluation of Electric Vehicle Production and Operating Costs" by Cuenca and Gaines). Operating cost parity with gasoline cars at $1.30/gallon gas was possible. A shame Chevron snubbed that battery technology out. This single action set mass EV adoption back by at least 15 years, and may have sealed our fate in regard to the peak oil crisis.

  • They should team up with Ferrari or other companies and produce them as electric cars. Thinnk about it: Electric Ferrari or electric Jaguar.

  • Mainstream automakers refuse to make electric cars. There's less profit in them from reduced costs to you and I.

If Ferrari wanted to make an electric car, they could have done in 15 years ago. Look up the 1992 Bertone Blitz. 0-60 mph in 6 seconds, lead acid battery pack. Alas, it remained a concept car.

  • i really want to see a video showing the roadster crush a Ferrari or Porsche.

  • It's cool to see a car that is not only good for the enviroment but also looks good. Nice clip.

  • This car is incredible

  • This is so important. I hope it succeeds long term.
