  • @BRONCOWEN This song is not better written than the Hip Hop song "Shades Of Grey". If you don't believe me just look up the song or the lyrics and you'll see.

  • @BRONCOWEN The artist is Braille.

  • Great song!!

  • 3 people aren't on top of the world.

  • 0:34 look at Wall Street and look to the left. Anyone see to tall buildings? Twin Towers maybe?

  • I wish i had a good job.

  • i discovered this recording in the 1995 film RICHARD III.

  • That's what I thought too

  • Should be in fallout

  • @leinster47 ABSOLUTELY! hahahahhahahah.. i couldnt agree more! it's so perfect.

  • @leinster47

    Should be in Bioshock.

  • @leinster47 wouldnt really suit the theme because fallout 3 is set in the apocolyptic world of the 1950s a couple of centuries later and this song was made in the 20s

  • Tumbs up if you think Al Jolson's makeup is creepy.

  • You can find this version on "The Very Best of Al Jolson" CD with 28 tracks from the 1845-49 period. Song was recorded by Al for the first time in the 20s with different arrangement, slightly different lyrics and interpretation and, of course, much younger voice. This one-s also great, nevertheless.

  • 1927 was a year that they needed all the morale they could get after the Great War everything fell apart with the mob and the Depression it was hard times.

  • music like this makes me feel like i am living back in the day drinking a cup of wide and i am 21 lol good song

  • the song is based on a Esqumaux folk tune first described by a French explorer in 1908 called "Merde Sur le Monde"

  • They should played that song when KONG went up the Empire State Builiding and when it goes to the humpty dumpty part, he dies and falls... too cruel? =P I love this song. It's funny that they have this song at the beginning and the at the end it's portrayed... well thought out, Peter J.!

  • Awsome!

  • oh yeah hot cha cha!

  • Nice. :0)

  • I know the original recording was from the 1920's. Was this version from the same time? Sounds like this version is from the early 30's... Is it an original recording or is it something mixed for the movie? Thanks...

  • @Cnat123

This recording was a rejected outake, alternative to the commercially released version, recorded in 1947.

  • @2havago So the original was from the 20's and Jolson recorded this version and released it in '47?

    Thanks for your help!..

  • @Cnat123

Jolson first recorded the song in 1925 - Interestingly, it being one of the first recordings he did by the then new electric recording system.

The version used in this video wasn't the one released, but, instead, is an outtake from the same session, in '47.

The released version was used in the film "King Kong" and in "Richard III"

  • I just want to listen to music like this all day, the class and jazzy feel of the music is so enchanting, hats off to you for uploading this awesome piece from King Kong, nuff said.

  • Damn good song.

  • I'm always singing this song at work cuz it's in my head all the time.

The moment the hit the word gay, I get these stares like wtf?

  • thanks for this I was looking for it :)

  • Shouldve Been In Fallout 3

  • @Changorangutang maby in new vages ?? they have a very good song selection for it it was the game that brought me back to 50 music

  • @Twister6900

Adolf Hitler came to power that year. Does that have anything to do with that being your favorite?

  • wow this song is so catchy

i wish i was back in the 30s just for vacation lol

  • i love this song

  • this ong should be on the next bioshock game

  • @TheJackman3000 this song's a bit early for Bioshock. This song's from 1925. Bioshock was in the 50s I think.

  • @wkunzelman1 i guess you're right. it is a bit early

  • they should put this song in fallout new vegas

  • I happen to prefer his earlier recording of this. Still ok though.

  • The version in Richard III seems to have the treble turned up compared to this version...have to admit I like it more that way (though obviously this can be done by hand). Any thoughts on this?

  • @EdOscuro

The version used in "Richard III" is the same recording used in "King Kong" and was in fact the 1940's commercially released track. Whereas the track used here is one of the rejected takes.

Also; There was a phase in the 50's and 60's whereby the tracks were so-called Stereophonically enhanced ... which served (only) to add re-verb to the original. The track played here has had no such treatment.

  • Thanks for that information. I think it's neat to have this version to compare to, though (echo chamber treatment aside) I like the performance in the other version more.

  • @EdOscuro

    I agree (100%) ... :p

  • This song fit this movie really well and I cry everytime I see Kong die.

  • wow you have no idea how happy i am right now, i always wondered what this song was , thank you very much!!!! =]

  • great job

  • the art in this video is amazing & I love this song ^^

  • Thank you! ... :p

  • The newest King Kong is really good, but they'll NEVER make another one like the '33 version.

Doesn't matter how good the special effects are nowdays.

  • @leafyutube Yeah the 1933 was my favorite because the 1970's one sucked, but I like the 2005 version best now.

  • That movie made me cry :(

  • Why, lol??

  • @MissDakiballoon

    me tooo :')

  • @MissDakiballoon hoe you KNOW the monkeys gonna die

  • @MissDakiballoon I don't think I've cried so hard in my life when I saw Kong die.

  • Every time I ride by the Empire State Building, this song is in my head.

  • How lucky you are to live in NY :')

  • Im sittin on top of the woooooorrrlllddd. I love this song.

  • Also used in one of the film versions of Richard III, it fits the subject matter just so well.

  • Ah, I've been looking for this for a while! I knew I heard it in King Kong...

I love this song, it's really upbeat.

  • Wow .. this kind of music makes me joyful.. and makes me think of my future.

  • You may have pinned it ... Perhaps the simple philosophy of the words are what helps to make this a popular song, even in today's market! ... Plus Jolson's addictive voice, of course!! ... :)

  • i was reading george washington gomez for a school report and this song is in the book

  • what a sexy song

  • XOXO

  • If you listen to the lyrics they reflect the era as it was the time of the great depression in the USA and people were very poor. I loved the opening shot to the most recent King Kong film as this song opened up. Brilliant!

  • The beginning was fabulous!!!! Shame, they didn't do this song at the CD.

  • one of he greatest entertainers EVER

  • I came across a video on youtube of Jack Dempsey's fights to this tune. Which was very fitting as he was heavy weight champ of the world in this time.

  • i no this has nothing to do with enything but grandad had a charity fite with jack dempsey

  • Actually, that's such a cool story that this is the perfect place to say it.

  • if your not being sarcastic then thank you

  • Not being sarcastic at all. It's the social history of "those days" that's so many of us find fascinating.

Jack Dempsey was world-famous, seen in newsreels around the globe -- even his bar/restaurant was a big deal.

  • i wish i went back in time to listen to the early 1900's songs

  • I LOVE THIS SONG
