Listening to Coil makes me remember a quote from one of my favorite authors, George Orwell. "We shall squeeze you empty and then we shall fill you with ourselves.", Coil does exactly this, with their music they make you feel and experience exactly what they want.
Heh. I'd hate to trip to this song. It would scare the piss outta me! Sober of course it's almost soothing and kinda sensual. He's a bit of a hypmotist isn't he?
@hobartia They were specifically referring to the ontology of of the neurological effects—chattering, shivering, heightened sonic and tactile awareness…the lyrics can be interpreted differently but I am only repeating their explanation.
I come back to this vid on nites like tonight. I first heard this song in my car on a local radio show at around 2 in the morning when it was about 13 degrees outside. Nothing sounds better on cold, cold winter nites........
No shit. I never thought about it, but you're probably right. I mean, it's sounds like a guitar to me, but they have great synths and that would make more sense.
Now I have to remove my previous comment because it seems long-winded and irrelevant.
I don't know why people suggest Coil's music is disturbing, or evocative of horror themes. I've always found their music to be quite soothing and sensual. But never scary.
Coil are give and take with me, because of their experimental nature, their music is to wide ranging to say it sounds a particular way, however, my faves I own of theres are the early horse rotorvator and unnatural history part 1 compliation. This track is amazing also, but much of the stuff they have done don't do it for me I'm afraid.
@MCKRUSH They do associate themselves with the “Hellraiser” series so there are a few connections but I agree—their music is more like experiencing art than anything else.
@MCKRUSH I agree with you but I assume you have a more sophisticated understanding of music which has in part been nurtured by experiences disjunct from Mass Culture.
As for other listeners they are not so fortunate.
Didn’t Coil file a suit in court claiming they had intellectual rights to “Hellraiser” movies—including music. If so, then artists themselves felt their music could create a scary atmosphere.
This song would have been AWESOME at the beginning of "2001: A Space Oddyssey" -- the scene where the monolith is teaching the apes how to use a thigh-bone as a club.
Am I shivering? Why yes, yes I am.

I'll NEVER forget the first time I heard this. It went through me like a lightning bolt.
In fact, this whole album reminds of magical nights when everything was electric and everything felt good.

@ThePress1000 This, though the intro does have a rather unsettling sound to it. It somehow sounds malevolent.

his list of music videos and album cover designs (Pink Floyd's wish you were here) is most impressive. 55 years old,

@BlueNeko1 Coil themselves declare this song alludes to the shivering and teeth chattering produced by ingestion of massive doses of pure MDMA.
