i think the "person" that is being seen is a reflection or dirt....bottom left window the middle square, it has a rounded white shape that looks like it has eyes...
It looks like these pics you took were around the same time I went here. They had already started destroying one of the buildings. Buuuut fortunately the person I was with wanted to go inside as bad as I did so we did go inside the wards and I got a lot of nice interior shots. It wouldn't surprise me if my pics were the last taken inside of it before it was demolished.
this is a beautiful video thes old asylums were so beautiful, i hae always wanted to visit one. would you suggest doing this before they get torn down? :D i also love the silent hill music. <3
they built these asylums along time ago and now they are obsolete. How nice the buildings were. they built them like they were in a city of their own!
The cost of rehabbing a place like this is usually 4 to 5 times more than just getting rid of it and building new. The cost of maintenance on a 150 year old building is also massive, and that's after it's abated, structurally repaired, brought up to modern codes, and remodeled into a "useful" floor plan. For the most part, asylums are a bunch of tiny rooms and big hallways, which can be good if you are going to reopen them as asylums, but not for much else...It's sad, but it's inevitable...
I am addicted to old asylums and hsopitals. Why can we not stop the madness of demolishing these places? You could not recreate one today. Are we so ashamed of or past?
my condo is located inside of the newly remodeled met state asylum. its creepy as hell, im moving out in two months. these places are fucked and should be torn down.
The architecture is marvelous, and they're tearing it down? Why not just remodel it! It would cost less and people would be happy, I'm sure, with keeping this beautiful structure.
I completely agree with all of you, as did many residents of my city but its already too late and it is mostly demolished now. It really is a pity, but that goes to show you how things work around here.
@Deadgirl667 worcester state, and even danvers state.....why does Massachusetts have to demolish these wonderful pieces of history? And to build modern shit?!
@Deadgirl667 the main reason a lot of these are torn down is it would cost an absolute fortune to get rid of all the asbestos and lead paint in these. They are FULL of it and it would be so expensive to do.
@xomiythox unfortunatly that is incorrect it would cost so much more and it would take so much more time to do all the new renovations and i live near here and it is an amazing beautiful building.... i went there and there wasnt this many buildings there im very sad that it is being demolished
@xomiythox yeah like i said i have never seen a cooler looking building than that and the fact that it is an abandoned asylum makes it that much creepier and cooler. i dont think i mentioned this before but the are building a new psychiatric facility on the property. they have started the construction and unfortunatly finished the demolition but the are keeping the main clock tower. and on top of it costing so much money to restore it is probably no allowed by the construction agencies insura
It is a shame to see one of thiese historic hospitals torn down. Most have been negelected and are falling apart. The one in Athens, Ohio is still in good shape and is now owned by Ohio University.
there way more to it than that. youve got to get all of the old lead paint and asbestos out of those. thats expensive and theyre FULL of both. It prob cheaper and thats why they do it. It IS a shame some of these cant be preserved.
me and my friends were the last people to go inside worcester state, i can prove that with pics on my myspace, and the day after we went inside, it was being torn down, the only thing left is the clocktower, and all those idiots that say "worcester stae is heavely guarded by police" arre wrong, a cop drove right by us as we were climbing under the fence, i know he saw us but we never got stopped
As a builder I worked on an asylum in cheedleton near leek Staffordshire. The main contractor tried to keep most of the original features but the rest of that magnificent building was ravaged
what a beatiful construction, i think t makes a great part of the city's history instead of bringing it down it should be brought back to life and be made into a museum or something educational, or for entretaining purposes.
Hey, not sure if you actually comment on her anymore, my friends and I are looking for a few places to explore and take pictures. Would you say this place is actually safe to get into? and is there any access at all or is it entirely fenced off now?
It's supposedly under construction now :( so I doubt you could get at it anymore, even a few years back they started chasing me and my friends off the property even if we stayed behind the fences. It's not really safe in there either, lots of water and fire damage inside.
i went there last year simply breathtaking! what is that thing at 1:44? my brother and me are debating over what that thing is i thought it led to the tunnels or something. also did you ever get the chance to go inside??
the thing at 1:44 is an old children's merry-go-round. there were actually a number of children living there in the history of the hospital. I never did get to go inside, but i've heard it's essentially empty now.
Haven't seen this style of merry-go-round is a long time. You stand in those vertical alcoves. I don't recall how tall they really are since this is a very old memory.
Place is unsafe, burned out dump. Not much to see in there. The NEW Worcester State Hospital is going to be built around the old clock tower building.
you really don't want to go inside...I went in there in 1991 before the gate and left 15 minutes later...too creepy...and no...we didn't have to break in...even the view from rte. 9 shows how ominous this place is.....one of the rooms still had an old wheelchair with imprints from the wheels but no footprints in the dust.....
You don't wanna go inside there...I Live in Massachusetts Right near Worcester & my Best Friend for a very long time lives in Worcester at the Worcester State College Dorm & Him and I (& like 4 more of my buddies) have all gotten into my 75 Chevelle Malibu & Broken into that place a few times....the wooden floors are un-safe & weak from water damage & shit from Rain water that's leaked in and shit. Every Wall in the place has tons Lead Paint Flaking off of it
Thank you so much for posting this video. My Mom, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, was a patient at this hospital around 1983. She had been to many hospitals and from what she told me, this is actually where she got diagnosed. I'll never forget the really sick people who lived here. I'm glad I could make you happy with this. I've always had such a connection to that place in a way, and I know from stories my family have told me that it was a sad place with all those poor people.
Ya know, thats odd.. My birth mother was put in that hospital around that time, she too suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, I never met her though, but I've been to the hospital once.

More like for prisoners of war..
I'm pretty sure royalty wouldn't tolerate bars on the windows and caged staircases.
But yeah, the exterior definately conjures a feeling of medieval beauty and regality. The architecture is fantastic.

most of it it already torn down.
They plan to preserve the clock tower and rotunda, but yeah it's too late to save it now.
