the ONLY people that criticize using double bass are the ones that cant play shit on a double set up. They say dumb stuff like: I do on a single bassdrum what most guys can do on two...well I got news for you....you ain't playin 16th's at 220 bpm on a single. It's about making your feet equal to your hands...
@Freezaen This is true, but faster speed nearly always comes at a sacrifice of power. Unless you're an absolutely amazing drummer that can get the power out of your strokes at say, 250bpm for example, odds are you'll end up using triggers as a result of the need for consistency, which is great for tone, but bad for technique lol
@Scotty515 i can keep my power and consistency near the top of my double bass speed! problem is that's at 180 bpm. ... i think i'm going to do some double pedal exercises now...
@AFatGypsyFanny yeah DAFLOYD82 is my bass player, he's seen me play with and without triggers, we always have this arguement on the pros and cons of it lol
@drummerdevil91 You can buy different bass drums, yes...But, because his bass drum looks like an 18'', it probably LOOKS like it can go higher than, say, a 22'', when infact it doesn't... :)
Is there a reason why you have your bass drum on a tilt or are you just doin it cause it looks cool? Cause I heard that have your bass drum on a tilt will put all the weight of the drum onto the hoop which will cause it to warp and eventually knock the head out of tune. Just some friendly advice eh. :)
@artachira depends how long you've had/been practicing with a double pedal for. i got my first double pedal at christmas and i practiced everyday and eventually i developed good control and speed within 3-4 months
i have a EMAD single ply i bought 5-6 years ago and i play it quite hard with the smaller ring :) it is as new an i've actually tried to throw some aggression and brake it ... but it didn't ...
@elementality2431; everyone's entitled to their opinion dude, i respect yours but i can't help but argue that some of the most killer grooves ever have been written/played on double bass, i have a lot of respect for drummers that stick to a single bass pedal but it IS recommened that you try to practice on a double pedal, even if you never use it in your gig/recording playing.
JESDRUMS1994; i do like the emad2, the sound on them is fantastic and i used it on the latest Impaled Existence record(it actually fell apart during the recording process haha), BUT the SK II are beyond anything i've played before and i've been using the head in this video for about a year and a half now and it's still going as strong as day 1 :)
what would you recommend a super kick or an emad 2? ive had the emad 2 but it fell apart on me within a couple months, so im thinking bout changing to this.
@MATTlovesDRUMS thanks a lot man :) i had borrow my friend's mapex black panther 14'' snare for a while as mine got totally annihilated beyond repair and couldn't afford a new snare lol. But thankfully that's all sorted and i'm now playing a Pearl ELX Cobalt Fade 14'' that was a bargain on ebay :D
@MysticalKitty71 nah just off the top of my head, the first thing i always jam out double bass is a beat from song called "For the Innocent" by Ted Maul, then everything else just goes from there xD
how come you removed your reso? for more attack? :)
one head to try if you want a good companion for the SKII is a ported regulator...that would actually create a dampening effect to give yo ubetter rebound :)
@andympants the best i've found of doing it is to play something, then keep the video on repeat and then crank up the BPM on a metronome until it's tight as possible, it says 220bpm in the title, but it wasn't a solid 220, granted a couple of bpm give or take
your beaters arent in the center of the head, does that matter? I just picked up some gammon dual chain driven pedals, and this head is ariving in the mail tomorrow, ive got a tama 22'' bass drum, any tips for dampening/tuning/reso head tuning?
@smileschannel1 it can be done on near enough any head, slacken the batter head as much as you can so you get a good slap from it, and tighten the resonant head up until you're happy with the tone. :)
@Scotty515 this is how im finding my heads work best and with no muffling, i recently added a kickport to the resonant head which improved the punch, im preferring single ply on the batter, i have an aquarium but im thinking of getting an ebony ambassador because when i was tuning the resonany head up i noticed there was quite a lot of slap/attack when i was hitting it with my bass drum beater in my hand, what kind of heads do you use?
excellent job dude that was seriously kick-ass...do you have any advice on how to do fast double bass? like technique and stuff? thanks.

Does angling the bass drum like that help at all????
drummerdevil91 8 months ago
@drummerdevil91 Yes, it will. By angling it backward, the beaters don't have to go as far to hit the kick.

@CameronADD nice to see someone else gets the idea behind angling the bass drum :) and you were close on guessing the size, it's a 20", not 18"
Scotty515 7 months ago
@Scotty515 NEARLLYY! haha! :D. I knew it was smaller than mine, anyway (Mine's a 22''). Nice sound to it though :).
