  • great version...would have been nice for her to acknowledge the wonderful guitar playing!

  • @bigdog38au you must've skipped the intro, because she obviously said "it's gonna feature mr.kevin hugh(?) on guitar".

  • @MrPrincefuego yes I did see that but thought a little thank you at the end would have been appropriate...not a big deal but great accompanying, too often the musos are forgotten.

  • OK, not only do I want to BE Audra McDonald, I also want to BE the guitarist!! Since I will never be either, it will have to be in my dreams....a more perfect voice, beauty and presence will be almost impossible to find.

  • Beautiful!!!! I was sold already after the very first four-note phrase. This woman is an incredible singer. Impeccable, sweet, sweet timbre and so much soul. Sounds like she didn't pass the audition for a stage musical - because she was way too good!!!!

Why the heck didn't I know that woman can sing big time?

On a side note: brilliant acoustic guitar playing!

  • I love her voice. I had never heard of Audra until Private Practice. I'm glad she did that stent on Private Practice so that I could be introduced to her. I loved her there and I'm really happy to hear her beautiful classical voice.

  • 14 people hate music

  • LOVE HER IN ANNIE 1999 <3

  • j'adore cette chanson.... de france et en plus aime cette actrice dans private practice une femme remplie d emotions et de vérité....

  • wow amazing..

  • @MrBEB123 seriously? she studied at juilliard......... she is not terrible at all

  • @MrBEB123 I hope your a professional if your saying that :/

  • @MrBEB123 Wow. You've clearly never studied vocal performance.

  • @MrBEB123 LOL this guy's "promoting national socialism." he hates black people.

  • @MrBEB123 dofus thats all i can say

  • Audra McDonald is wow. She is a great person. Truly unique. It must make those who faught for equal rights many years ago so proud. They will point at her and say it proves they were right. If proof was ever needed. Thank you Audra for existing in this world.

  • chills. every time.

  • im in love in that perfect voice

  • It's no wonder the great grand daughter of Richard Rogers selected her to sing the role of Julie in Oklahoma!

  • I love Audra, she could sings the phone book and I would be happy. Beautiful voice, great phrasing and wonderful human being. KUDOS to Audra!!!

  • This is the first time I've heard the introductory verses (When all the world is a hopeless jumble . . ., etc.). Very nice.

  • You got one big amazing singing voice love!

  • So elegant and graceful.. You sure don't see this type of control and composure on the stage as much as you used to

  • stunning

  • I think that YT should have a "love" button.

  • Beautiful elegant lady doing a beautiful and elegant rendition of a beautiful and elegant song.

    Brava!

  • I love when she tells people if they don't know what movie that is from to get out.

I'm not a big fan of the song (yeah, I know. what is wrong with me?) but I loved her version of it.

  • Unspeakably *gorgeous*.

  • Hey! Die kenn ich doch.

Spielt die nicht bei Private Practice mit?

  • i usually do not like non-judy garland versions of this song, but i'll happily listen to audra singing it. <3

  • W-O-W

  • This is so beautiful. I didn't even know she was this good a singer until a few days ago. I must have been living under a rock

  • Her voice is just perfect for the song. I have never heard a finer version.

  • Wow.. i've nerver heard such a good version before.. ok. Connie's is as good as that :)

  • Now THAT!!!! is the way this song is ment to be sung BRAVO...

  • OMG!!!!!!!!! private practice! she can sing!? lol wow love it!

  • A song written by two of my people during a time when we were victims of global genocide. Our dreams did come true: to be free people in our land, the land of Zion and Jerusalem.

  • @ryry681 yes, this song was written by harburg and arlen. two jewish men. No one seems to acknowledge that.

  • @AdamG319 why would anyone need to ackowledge that. that's like saying, a song is written by an irish man, who is irish and was once persecuted, or that any billie holiday song was written by an african american who was a victim of stereotype, racism, and segregation. but their dreams came true and they are now equal under the eyes of the law. you are detracting from the song.

  • @ryry681 well i wrote that on yom ha'atzmaut and was feeling rather patriotic. i don't see anything wrong with acknowledging any of those things, but feel free to vote down the comment if you feel so strongly.

  • @AdamG319 its not ur land

  • @nonom3m3 try to keep me from it.

  • @AdamG319 just wait and see

  • @AdamG319 שָׁלוֹם

  • I like the original lyrics-she does an awesome job!

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • I agree with the mermaid!

  • "do i need to tell people what movie that's from? if i do get out" HILARIOUS!

  • not on frostwire... i just download from tubemusicdownload com

  • Wow Audra where did you pull that voice from? Haha amaaaaazing! <3

  • She pulled it from her Juilliard Voice training... You want a real shock? Listen to her "My Man's Gone Now" from Porgy and Bess (Also on YouTube). Before Private Practice.... And before straightening balm.

  • What a great performance!!! It's nice to hear the song sung in its original form without being over embellished which is a rarity these days.

  • Beautiful Voice. I Really Love Audra.

  • wow! i would so love her to be in the midst of operating and break into a song haha

gotta love her and pp and the rest of the amazing cast e.g. kate walsh!

  • Audra is amazing - she has such a great voice!! Thanks for posting!

  • I loove Audra, and I love her as Naomi on PP... but until they turn Private Practise into a musical, she is wasted on there. lol, along with Taye.

She has such a beautiful voice! <3

  • @Eccabay77 Shonda, the show's creator, does that with tons of Broadway Stars/amazing singers in her shows. We can't do anything about it sadly. :'(

  • That was perfection! Audra is amazing and sooooo talented. easily one of the best voices of all time :) i really really want to meet her one of these days.

  • wooow i didnt know Audra McDonald sang!!! i only knew her from private practice, she is amazing

  • Aww your cute!~

    Lol! :D

Her voice made me sleepy, its SO pretty!! =O

  • I just love listening to her beautiful voice!!!

  • well i was already crying from the point she started singing.... "somewhere over.."

but she really got me whenever her voice kneels into her lower range which she uses excellently. the way her voice is breathy at (3:55)"why oh why cant i?" ...streaming tears.... damn you audra!!!!jk bellissimo!

  • one of my fave song ever!!!!!!!

  • she s amazing

  • omg she is GORGEOUS

  • she is on one of my favorite tv shows private practice.

  • Oh my god, she sings so beautifully... Her voice OMG!!! Beautiful, beautiful..... I saw her in WIT with Emma Thompson, I didn't know she could sing, too... her voice!!! Lovely....

  • Beautiful version of this "Wizard of Oz" classic song! Great Job Audra! Judy is smiling down on you! She would be very pleased!

    Dara

  • Oh Audra. Can I be you when I grow up?

  • its preformances like this that define what a captive audience is. there are so many great "live" recordings that are forever scarred by "cat calls" and "whistles" during the recording that ruin it for me. yes!... clap, whistle, cat call if you must...but shut up until the last decibel can be heard. Audience noise, during the song, does not make performances better....accept on the Peter Framton Comes Alive album....because...of course...I was there. lol

  • wonderful the way this song should be sung. 2 instruments a soft guitar & her wonderful voice.

  • Believe me there are tears coming down my cheeks. This must me an anel singing! This is true singing. Pure, melodic, free!

  • i dont think this sounds classical at all ,brilliant job , she has a real gift !!!

  • Inspiring

  • She kinda sounds like Barbra singing Classical! =)

  • recuerdo que yo estaba en casa solo ese dia un poco tristre y escuche este angel y me dio mucha alegria en mi alma .

  • Muy conmovedor.

  • I LOVE HER IN PRIVATE PRACTICE!!!

  • This song cools me down when she sings it.

  • good night people!!

  • Her name is Audra Mcdonald you Jackass.

  • Audra McDonald

  • That's what I'm naming my first daughter!

  • Lol Me too. When I actually have one :) She's awesome!

  • What breath control! How lovely! This woman has such a gift. Gave me goosebumps.

  • she was amazing in the raisin in the sun and private practice

  • This lady also a fine actress. Check out her porfomance in WIT with Emma Thompson...now that brought tears to my eyes.

  • That was one of the most beautiful renditions of this song i've ever heard...my eyes watered

  • I love this so much. She sounds like Judy Garland!

  • She is amaizing...great voice !

  • she's beautiful and has an incredible voice- I'm not really an 'opera fan'but this is soooo beautiful

  • I loooove her. I remember seeing this late, late, late, the first week of 2007. I had a "who is THAT?!" moment. I rarely ever have those.

  • She is gorgeous.

  • wow that's the most 'gentle' rendition i've ever heard! beautiful!

  • wow she's like my new hero now(=

  • Ahhhh Audra! She graduated from my High School!!! YOU'RE AMAZING!!!

  • the best version of this song ever done was of course the soul version by Patti LaBelle and the bluebells or LaBelle which ever group it was that recorded it. I've only known Audra as an actor until now she has a dynamic voice, even if I do prefer soul and r&B.

  • After seeing this...they need to do a musical version of Private Practice with her and Taye being the stars!! lol.

  • They'll have to find a reason for Callie Torres to visit from Grey's so Sara Ramirez can participate. That would be quite a broadway lineup.

  • YEAH IT WOULD!! lol That would be amazing..forget the "stars" of the show and have them run that episode! lol

  • Hi hunny! It's ElphieDee from IMMB! haha. I'm surprised you didn't mention this, but if they did a musical version of Private Practice, Idina would just HAVE to guest star! lol. That would be the best episode EVER!

  • lol. HI! How could I have forgotten?!! She could be the patient they're trying to heal! :)

  • Haha...I'm sure Taye would do a GREAT job at that!!! hahahaha. : )

  • Haha!! So this is totally happening at the Good Medicine thing on Friday!! Idina won't be there so she won't be a patient, but I'm looking forward to it nonethe less!! lol.

  • I know!!! I was thinking about that when I read back over these comments. Hahaha. I mean...Idina MIGHT be there. She won't be performing, but still. Are you going? I soooo wish I could go. I have living in FL.

  • Yup!! I'm going!! Idina said at that conversation thing with Glen that she won't be there. I'm secretly hoping that she's lying or changes her mind or something and does show up. lol.

  • Let's not forget about Chandra Wilson, who started in theatre and has also been on Broadway in "Caroline, or Change," "Avenue Q," and "On the Town."

  • True! Why, when ABC has all these amazing singers on these two shows, has Wilson been the only one to ever sing?

  • Another Grey's Anatomy castmate sings besides Chandra Wilson, Sara Ramirez is also a singer she plays Callie Torres.

  • True! Why, when ABC has all these amazing singers on these two shows, has Wilson been the only one to ever sing?

  • she'd b gr8 on broadway!

  • She's been there, done that, and has four Tonys to prove it. Not to mention starred in a new version of Annie, read audio books, and released successful records. She's a fantastic singer, but also a pretty good actor. I don't care for Private Practice that much (I liked Greys, but the cast doesn't work for me on PP), but see her with Emma Thompson in Wit.

  • I am sorry I posted a rather "negative" response. I would have just wanted her to be happy singing any song. "You guys won't even remember I sang it, so I'll sing it" sounds self-judgmental. I want everyone to sing and to dance, so I was weary that "professionals" like her might possibly discourage people to sing however they want. No ownership! Happy singing for all!

  • The orginal version is way better...

  • Judy Garland was an amazing singer

    Rip(:

  • The Garland version will always be THE version of this song, (although I love the Israel Kamakawiwo Ole version too), but I agree the arrangement doesn't help her. I think it would have been better without the guitar. Her voice is amazing though, and I would hardly call this hard to listen too.

  • The original version is the orginal version. There is no better or worse. Both are marvelous.

  • I don't think it was condescending ... she's a very nice person, really. I've seen her once in concert, it was a very informal setting. she's really cool! I doubt it was condescending

  • It's perfect.... yes... but.... the lofty attitude... joyfulness and innocence.. and the awful joke-type thing... condescending comment.. I mean.... I can't go for that for some reason.

  • I know that true perfection doesn't exist, but Audra comes pretty close. Beautiful, classy, talented beyond belief, and 100% passionate every time she opens her mouth. I can't help but adore her.

  • Absolutely fantastic.

  • And listen to that guitar work. Great combination.

  • she's amazing... but I still prefer Judy Garland's version, which is the best...

  • How plain it is to see she's in love with this song.

  • She has such passion when she sings. It's easy to see how much she loves the art of music.

  • such a gorgeous voice

  • This is a truly amazing woman. She's got it all - gorgeous, a great actress, and an incredible voice. It's too bad that I can't give this performance six stars!

  • STOP SPAMMING! annd will someon please tell me why when i click the spam button, it says marked as spam, but when i come back it's still there?

  • love her voice... very pure..thanks for posting

  • she's gonna be on Private Practice!

  • I know! I'm so excited!

  • Beautiful voice and a good ACTRESS as well. Brava.

  • wow wow wow... does anyone know when she started taking voice lessons? i'm guessing when she was really young because she's amazingg

  • She graduated from Julliard (classical singing department)

  • Audra grew up in Fresno, CA. As a youngster, she got involved with our local dinner theater group, The Good Company Players, starting with the Junior Company when she was 8 or 9, advancing to the adult company when she was 16. She graduated from Roosevelt High's School of the Performing Arts before going on to Julliard.

Her late father was the principal at the HS my two kids attended - what a proud papa he was!!

  • this song represents my baby cuzon who unfortunately passed away 3 days b4 her 1st birthday so this songs means an awful lot to me, and this really made me cry she is amazing! x

  • i didnt like it.

    from laura

    x =-)

ps. she has a great voice tho
