  • I have used both Macs and PCs professionally and both have their good and bad points, but one reason I came down on the side of PCs is the ghastly evangelical zealot attitude of a lot of Mac users who are snobbish enough to think that form equals function. I don't give a **** what a computer looks like - I just want it to do what I ask at a fair price. Has the smug Mr Fry used a PC? Sorry, Mr F. you are a talented and amusing man in many ways but my goodness at times you are a real t****r.

  • yeah one of two things I don't like about Stephen Fry, The Apple fan boy element, and his support of fox hunting, he's interesting to listen to until he goes off on one over windows, he doesn't seem to acknowledge Linux, just shows there are different kinds of cleverness

  • Stephen. Sticking up for Apple is as playground as it sounds.

I'm amazed you do it. Can you build a Apple from scratch with your kids? No, you can't.

The PC - which was crap, I'll say it - is now on a par with anything Apple can come up with. For any arts, music or film production. It has been for years.

The PC is in the public domain. Well and truly. To suggest otherwise is simply churlish.

  • @moosey62 But he's right about Windows.

  • The reason a large amount of people still use wxp is simply because it is compatible with just about everything including most games still being released as for macs you seem to think an increase in macs means a decrease in windows which is truly illogical for example take schools and universities they employ hundreds of computers yet most accomodate macs too usually only four or so simply because windows are easier to use and are more compatible.as much as people go hating Microsoft atleast th

  • IronRooRoo:

Steven Fry is a well known Apple fan, one of the most famous. His distain for Gates extends to the toll the dreadful Windows 'experience' exacts on the human psyche.

In other words, as you have demonstrated, using Windows for too long makes people angry and spiteful.

  • Stephen had better be a Linux user and not a mindless Apple-bot.

  • @yasiru89 No he's an Apple-bot as you say. This clip cuts out the part where he actually talks about it though.

  • @WalterLiddy Unfortunate that (not that I was really able to picture him as a Linux user). But I suppose it fits in with whatever his rudimentary requirements of technology are.

  • and so the search for @cris001kay's comment begins...

  • @MGVaughan1986 Well that was disappointing.

  • Furthermore, if you buy a mac you're an idiot. Four times the price for half the computing power. And don't say that shit about 'no viruses on macs'. There's no viruses on PCs either, if you actually know what you're doing and don't visit bogus sites/use strong security measures.

Also, few viruses on macs because they only make up less than 20% of the market. Virus developers will start caring about macs when they actually start to dominate the personal computer market, which will be never.

  • @IronRooRoo People have said this for years, but where are they all? Macs market share has been on the rise for the last 5 years solid, Windows has been on the decline over the last 3 or so. There are MANY more Macs today than there were only a few years ago, yet there are still no viruses out there in the wild that are malicious and able to infect your system without your say so (most are Trojans that piggy back other software installers, usually pirated stuff). The whole price thing is BS too.

  • @TalesOfWar Nice rant, fanboy. The price thing is bullshit? Mate, I'm an IT consultant and I've been in the business since 1992. Don't make me laugh with your so-called insight into an industry I work in every single day.

Even if a mac was the same price as a PC, you'd still be losing out. In fact, at half the price you'd still be losing out. They're underpowered, and their lack of customization and consumer choice is there only to cater to bufoons.

  • @IronRooRoo You're an IT consultant? Good lord, no wonder so many companies still use Windows XP and IE6.

  • @TalesOfWar There's nothing wrong with Windows, or IE (latest versions).

Although I might add I'm not in the third world like you. I don't know what planet you're on that still uses IE6.

Now move along and stop spouting shit at me, Mr. Artsy. Keep surfing Firefox, or whatever it is you do.

I'll go worship Gates, the man who donates billions per year. You can keep worshipping Jobs, the hotheat who abused his staff and didn't donate shit. Yep, he was a real hero, ROFL!

  • @TalesOfWar Also, nice to know you pretty much brushed over every other comment I gave you. My point proven; you cannot have a technological discussion with a braindead Jobs lover.

  • @TalesOfWar

He's either lying about being in IT since '92 or lying about his age (24 it says on his channel).

    Either way...

  • @TalesOfWar Also, say exactly what you want. I am aware that Microsoft is in decline and Apple is on the rise. I am aware that the figure of macs in comparison to PCs is steadily rising. The fact still remains that macs make up less than 20% of the market. I don't care what figures of Apple sales figures you bring to me. That's still less than a quarter of all people using macs.

  • @IronRooRoo you give apple far too much credit here... last i read ms was still dominating just under 90% of the worlds os... that's an amazing amount, apple wont increase, thats why they did the ipod and ipad, they know they could never compete with a company that has almost 90% of the market

  • Jobs never donated a cent, but Gates donates billions to various charities per year. Also, it's a known fact that Jobs was a hothead who abused staff when he didn't get his own way. Many former employees have come forward since his death to confirm this. No such incidents have happened with Gates; he is known for his patience and modesty.

  • @IronRooRoo This is always the big thing that redeems Bill Gates for me. He earns an insane amount of money, but he gives a large portion of it away. If every super-rich person did that, what a different world this would be.

  • i heard something funny, that all the sounds and imagery made for all the windows up to Vista i believe, were made on apple macs. All the start up sounds and all the symbols for My computer etc...all designed on macs.

  • @rorrt Indeed, that's true. Though it became less and less so as time went on. When Windows 95 came out the software to create such things just didn't exist on Windows, so they used Macs. Bill Gates' house was also designed on Macs, and most of the advertising agencies Microsoft (and pretty much everyone) use are largely Mac based. You'll also find a lot of Macs in stock photography around Microsofts websites if you look. Especially funny when it's a PowerBook G4 that can't run Windows lol.

  • stephen fry and the apple loving whore character coming out there... steve jobs came up with an idea for a portable music player (stolen from the sony walkman), and bill gates gives over 500 million a year to africa, which one do you hear about the most?

  • @slapmyfunkybass The walkman is completely different from an iPod. A walkman needed a disc up until the iPods came out. Bill Gates also stole tons of ideas from Apple, look at the new Microsoft office layouts, they're from iWork 2009. Jobs did give quite a bit to charity however you can't compare him with Bill gates in that aspect. Bill Gates is a better humanitarian but don't say that Jobs isn't one of the best tech guys in the past 30 years.

  • @LusoAustralian microsoft originally came up with the tablet, in around 2001, apple users forget that; you're missing my point, the original walkman (portable tape player) was an amazing idea, yet tell me who invented it? i bet you can't; that revolutionised the way people listened to music, not the ipod. all the ipod did was recreate the walkman in digital format, and it wasnt even the first to do so - apple do take a lot of credit for stuff they don't deserve to

  • @slapmyfunkybass The Windows tablet is completely different to the iPad. They tried to put a computer onto a tablet whereas Apple made something completely different. They made a tablet a device in itself and not a subdevice like Microsoft tried to. Steve Jobs undeniably invented the modern tablet, Gates tried to invent a tablet and failed. They are different in many ways and modern tablets are all based on Jobs' design not Gates', so it's safe to say that Jobs invented the modern tablet.

  • @LusoAustralian sorry, you're completely wrong, ms invented the tablet, it's common knowledge, jobs didn't invent it, in fact, jobs didn't design hardly anything. the ipod was designed by a british developer. i don't get the praise for jobs, the ipod wasn't even the first portable digital music player, apple just have the muscle to promote and sell in volume; jobs says lets develope the music player and his designers and developers get to work, then jobs gets the praise. wake up!

  • @slapmyfunkybass Apple don't generally invent things, they INNOVATE things. They take something that's mediocre and make it good. Even now pretty much every non-Apple MP3 player sucks. They come with god awful software that's poorly designed and there's no integration at any level. The Zune was the only other thing to come anywhere near the iPod and iTunes but MS killed it by only selling it in the US and Canada. Tablets existed before Apple and Microsoft did by the way.

  • @TalesOfWar you seem to have misjudged me, i use a mac, i work in design and have to. do i like apple? no, i hate the os and the company, it has a horrible spoon fed quality about it. when i mentioned at work i like to change to ms they said no, they feel creativity comes from the os, not the person, what utter bs! that's how a lot of mac users view it and over time i came to dislike apple for that. it has this horrible pretentious attitude and i dont want to be a part of it

  • @slapmyfunkybass You work in a creative industry and you're shocked that it's full of pretentious dicks? Creative people tend to be pretentious (more commonly than non creatives), it's been like that for thousands of years. Like or dislike it for what it is, not for who uses it. To each their own I guess. I use both for design work, I find OSX is far more efficient on my workflows than Windows is, and provides far fewer headaches. I hope I didn't offend you by the way, that wasn't my intention.

  • @slapmyfunkybass Apple Newton. Look it up. 1994. That's before 2001, and tablets have existed for long before ether Microsoft or Apple existed. Apple were the first company to get it right though by creating a whole new paradigm, rather than just shoving what was already out there onto a different form factor it wasn't designed for. Those PC tablets were fucking awful to use, they were laptops with a touch screen running software made for keyboard and mouse, not fingers. iPad switched that.

  • @slapmyfunkybass Also, Apple don't "take the credit for stuff they don't deserve to". People like you assume they do, to further your blind hatred, and fanboys assume it to push their own agendas. Apple changed the way people used digital music players. They had a great, simple to use UI then put all the complex stuff onto the computer with software made for managing the thing, then opened the iTunes Store for you to actually get the content too, all in one place. It's integration at its best.

  • @slapmyfunkybass Hating Microsoft doesn't necessarily mean you hate Bill Gates or in turn Love Apple and Steve Jobs. I've been a long time user of Ubuntu. I don't think Windows is a good OS (at least for my purposes) but I still have all the due respect for the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. Life isn't always black and white.

  • @galaxyexpress998 True but Stephen Fry is a known AppleFag. No offence Stephen. X

  • @galaxyexpress998 I'm always disappointed when people are impressed by rich people spreading largesse ...

Q1 - do you really believe that Gates is clever enough to be allowed to influence world events? He's a computer geek, for goodness' sake.

Q2 - do you not realise that his apparent generosity is funded, ultimately, from our pockets and in any case represents a tiny fraction of his wealth?

Go easy on your 'due respect' ..... it may not be deserved.

  • @slapmyfunkybass These are exactly my feelings.

  • @slapmyfunkybass Ah, I'm sorry to hear that popular image reached you as well. While it's true Gates is generally more ethically responsible, Jobs did not simply invent a music player. He designed, quite frankly, the world we live in today. Without Apple, there would be no Personal Computers, and technology wouldn't be anything like what it is today. Sadly, most people (like you) only chose to pay attention when Apple became popular - and now blame him for it.

  • @slapmyfunkybass Didn't Bill Gates retire a few years ago so that is the only reason you heard more from Steve Jobs before he died. Obviously BG still gets the money from owning the companies but he isnt running the companies anymore from what I saw, or atleast isnt doing the presentations.

  • Talkin crap about Windows is for low IQ mac fags and girly men

  • This was recorded on a Mac.

  • Did you record this with your pubes?

  • OMG North and South Korea are different countries?

    **FACEPALM**

  • Did you record this with a grapefruit?

  • noooo!!! why does my hero stephen fry not like windows D:

  • @RelativelyHostile1 I think he meant Bill gate's taste, maybe he sucks at decorating?

  • @RelativelyHostile1 Stephen Fry loves macs.

  • @bernardus4646 Kind of weird to hate on Gates but love Jobs. They're essentially the same thing ^^

  • @megamarsvin No they're not the same. One will be remembered as a great philanthropist, the other as somebody who tried to cure his cancer with fruit juice.

  • @arna11420 best quote ever!

  • If Steve Jobs was so smart then why is he dead?

  • @TenWhoWereTaken

Beacuse he was so smart that he knew alternative medisin would cure him.. but a spinning beach ball appeared and he died..

  • @TenWhoWereTaken You're saying Pancreatic cancer has anything to do with intellect? Clearly you're either feebly joking or in severe lack of said quality.

  • @OceausPhoenix My joke may be feeble, it was stolen from The Simpsons, but you really are a terrible writer. The syntax of that last sentence makes you sound like a precocious child trying to impress grown-ups. It's self-consciously ornate but lacking in any real substance, just like a Mac...

Keep up with the awesome anime drawings, you weeaboo cliché.

  • @TenWhoWereTaken Lighten up, for goodness sake. Why is it that the ENTIRE Internet wants to insult everyone else on it. You were making a joke in pretty bad taste. And I can't draw for sh*t.

  • @TenWhoWereTaken is that a genuine question..? because it would be a VERY stupid one

  • @TenWhoWereTaken That made me lol.

  • What fucking country are they talking about?

  • @studiounluck. Liechtenstein, next to Switzerland

  • still more proof macs are gay.

  • @310sucks Hooray for homophobia.

  • @Szaam ;-; Bad homophobia. Bad.

  • @OceausPhoenix I think he was being sarcastic.

  • David Mitchell. Finally, another human being who knew that North and South Korea were separate countries, before Kim Jong Il died.

  • @RaincloudPlay Who didn't know that? You must live in a very stupid community.

  • @TheMrAndr3w I know, I wanted to shoot a brain at them. Or a bullet.

  • @RaincloudPlay Everybody knew that. Everybody.

  • @RaincloudPlay - Er, what the fuck are you talking about?

  • Thanks for posting! For people that dislike the quality, you are free to not watch this video in perfect 1080 should you prefer.

  • If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video I would be a twat that repeats things from other videos.

  • @VGMGarden What if someone gave you $1 without asking?

  • APPLE WHORE!

  • If I had one pence for every pixel on that screen... I would have one pence.

  • @cris001kay If I had one pence for eveytime I've seen your exact comment on another video I'd have 21533789543 pence

  • @PCH92

Wouldn't be about pixels would it by any chance? Did you film his with a potato? Did you film this with a toaster? Which pixel is Stephen Fry...and so on. Yes they are all bone idle predictably tedious comments aren't they.

  • @PCH92 *One penny

  • @cris001kay Why are you whining on the grafx? the sound quality is superb

  • Better than iEurope.

  • @yasiru89 At least it'd work better lol.

  • @TalesOfWar If you're willing to part with all the options and flexible functionality for somewhat smoother operation on menial tasks, then certainly.

  • @yasiru89 Don't mistake good design for lack of functionality. That's exactly what most people who bash Apple stuff do.

  • @TalesOfWar You sound like my old 'Interface Design' teacher from university in the 90's. Is that you, Bradley?

  • @TalesOfWar Design is one thing, functionality another. While the former is most welcome, it doesn't justify cutting out on the latter. Apple ensures smooth operation exactly this way, by setting down what can and can't be done on their machines to suit a core, almost uniformly technophobic and fad-afflicted user group. Ironically, this stifles true innovation, however much they like to apply the label to their own 'limit and make prettier and smoother' business plan.

  • @yasiru89 Couldn't have said it better myself, mate. Hit the nail on the head. :)

  • First time I disagree with stephen fry :o

  • @Bodorio lol my same reaction
