I live about 11 miles from the bridge. This was AFTER they added cables to reduce sway... I never realized just how much it DOES sway. I've been on it many times and havent fell of yet :)
@chwparker You can drive across the bridge but I would suggest walking if possible. If you drive stay alert, it is narrow and there are lots of people wandering around, some not paying attention. If you are the driver, you won't be able to site see.
@lbfreder I haven't been to the Gorge since '87. My father was scared to attempt the cable car across it. We drove on the bridge. I think we were barely moving (10 mph if that much).
I don't remember if we felt the bridge swaying. I do remember it wasn't that windy that day (July '87).

Wow the bridge was swaying. I didn't realize it was that kind of bridge. I can't wait to drive across this one day.
