  • Van at his best. No doubt about it! psychedelica and poetry, jazz and Van the man.

    Great side-men!!

  • I stumbled across this song by wandering through a dear You Tube friend's favs. It is so long ago since I listened to this album, but I realise why I thought back than it was nothing less than a masterpiece. It touched my heart than, just as it does now.

  • WONDERFUL SONG!!

  • jesus, this song.

  • beautiful voice

  • Van Morrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993

  • The vibes and double bass give this album a signature sound that carries throughout the album. Jazz meets folk psychedelia. Timeless and something that somehow defies description and absolute comprehension.

  • This is great, but I think I need to crank my album!!!!

  • May I recommend the book 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • Proud to be Irish. I am in good company!!!!

  • The two people that gave thumbs down were Greil Marcus and Clinton Heylin!!!!!! Listen again!!!!!!

  • @Sydplayson Didn't Greil Marcus love this album?

  • @DualistofG4 I think it was either him or Lester Bangs that wrote an awesome article on the album.

  • LOVELY!!!! BEAUTY !!! This is my favourite artist. My master. Best regards from POLAND.

    Michael from Warsaw.

  • The best album Van ever made! it's apity he never got the venues.

  • genius

  • 2 people are for no-one and no-one is for them

  • this is simply one of the best songs i've ever heard. EVER. Not much beats the absolute completeness of this piece of art. Damn! Mr. Morrison congratulations. And the horns and the bass line =fuhgeddaboutit.

  • Oh this is excellent!

  • This 3 minutes and 18 seconds somehow makes life officially worth living... ❤

  • @folly5girl

    wonderful...I agree with you...a dream...thanks, Van

  • Do i detect a lil xylaphone action?

  • @ebelf3 Vibraphone ... it's metal, a xylophone is made of wood ...

  • Vocally, Van at his very best.

  • @liamkeating2010

Yep - absolutely. I don't listen to this album at all anymore, but it's the only song that i still hum to myself. Brimming with feeling

  • Astral Weeks is, by far, one of the best albums I have ever listened to :)

  • one deaf person could only see the album cover and thus didn't like the video

  • Its about time people appreciated Van Morrisons music,

  • warning ! dont drive with this song blaring in the car, you'll get a speeding ticket, its full of emotion and power which seems to go straight to my right foot out of over excitment and over participation in singing along ,you have been warned !

  • Online Asian women here who can trust lushfmlk.info

  • I'd heard Jeff Buckley's version before... but God this is better.

  • @OptikC Yeah, two very different versions, but both are nice.

  • This album was recorded about a year and a half after "Brown Eyed Girl." But so different.

  • Voted 2nd best album of all time by Rolling stone . I think the bestest Recorded in 8 hours total

  • Voted 2nd best album of all time by Rolling stone . I think the bestest

  • Great Post - thanks! Singing in a trance, that bass, the horns: If Young Lovers had a sound this would be The Way they Do

  • best song ever

  • As I recall this whole album was recorded in one take and it's probably the best album ever

    recorded.

  • listening to this album through for the first time...now my day is shot from listening to every word. Have to have lived a little bit to get alot of this.

  • No,Astral weeks is my favorite on this album,it's a close second.

  • Van sings vintage over a cacophony band, seems like the whole studio collapsing upon his words. This song is timeless. Masterpiece.

  • @liamkeating2010 yeah its a good song but if you listen to the song Sweet Thing i honestly think its the best song on the album gets me every single time i listen to it.....

  • Van's music is not intelligent.

    Van's music is not beautiful.

    Van's music is not complex.

    Van's music is not 'good'.

Van's music is just MAGIC. That is the only epithet one can use to describe his music.

  • ever listened to real jazz..?

  • @tenorsaxofoon Yeah Bird, Coltrane, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong etc

  • ever listened to real jazz....?

  • Astral Weeks.......magic

  • An absolute masterpiece, one of the best songs ever written...

  • Beat this! What a tune.

  • Wow - is anyone else blown away by that bass line? Love that jazzy feel in Van Morrison's songs.

  • Somebody once said that Van could sing the phone book and it'd be alright with me. I second that!

  • woke up on this monday morning with van in my mind and crotch.

  • like Jeff Buckleys version of this too, loving the jazzy vibe of the original :)

  • yeah my fav from one of best records ever made.

  • This song makes me feel in love.

The way Van sings "I love you, babe, I love you", it gets me everytime!

  • The bass line really turns me on!

  • @durgaaa and NearlyGeneva:

    Jay Berliner - guitar

    Richard Davis - double bass

    Connie Kay - drums

    Barry Kornfeld - guitar

    John Payne – flute

Warren Smith, Jr. - percussion, vibraphone

Larry Fallon – string and horn arrangements

Unknown trumpet player, just part of the horn section I guess :/

  • ça réveille le bonheur !!

  • Rolling Stone Magazince called this a poor jazz-flavoured cut... Idiots! I have driven from Hull to Leeds (60 miles) and listened to this one song over and over. It's that good. What about that bass line!

  • "...then we sat on our own star and dreamed of the way that we were and the way that we wanted to be..."

  • I was diggin this song when I was 18 years old in 1970 ! ! ! It was the BEST for me. I was a teen girl and wanting my future guy to feel this way about me. This tune said it ALL for me back then. I never found a guy who had this much soul ! Guess I should have gone to Ireland, huh.

  • Yes, a magnificent song from one of the greatest rock-jazz albums. Will never stop listening to it. But the great rythm is thanks to the American jazz guys who played on it.

  • @NearlyGeneva --yes, and we need to hear their names ! Especially the trumpet players ! But surely all of his side men. Do you know the names ?

  • @durgaaa See Astral weeks wiki. best description o fa recording session I ever read.

  • why hasn't this been number one in the singles chart for the last 40 years?

  • @DavidMJordan true dat.

  • I'm naming all of my children SpaceOdyssee0. That's it. This album has been pounding in my brain since I was born. Glad for it. Glad for it.

  • the engineering on this song is crazy.

  • this is so bitchin i love van the man. if you get a chance to get bulbs live at montreux jazz festival ita a choice watch. love the post and the album thanks so much.

  • THANK U SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIMES !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a SONG! Nobody sings like Van.

  • At last... my love has been posted on youtube! One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • i am proud to say that i recommended this album to 1000s of van fans on other 'live' posts - i honestly believe that it's one of those unique recordings (like blonde on blonde and stationtostation) where one simply has to own a cd or, especially, vinyl copy of one's own...there is nothing like the sound quality and musical detail of the original stereo pressing...which is van's main reason for pulling 'you tube' postings.

  • Jesus, just over 1000 views yet? This song should have 1000 times more than that lol

  • chills...thx for posting this album..one of the best ever recorded
