  • Very nice production Austin. Despite the time, the video is still great quality. This locomotive is it still in service ?

    Regards. Philippe

  • Merci Philippe. Non, la locomotive est sous la réparation à long terme a ce moment

  • Another superb production Austin, you certainly get the best out of this vintage material, thanks for putting in the work for the rest of us to enjoy...Bob

  • Thanks Bob, I was glad I uploaded this one as a lot of people don't seem to have known that she ventured that far north. It was a very respectable performance over the line.

  • Sight to see, Steam on the setle Carlisle, well captured

  • Thanks very much, pleased you enjoyed it.

  • Nice one Austin. Some of the best Super 8 I've seen, mainly due to your first class camera work. I do like your long "train in the landscape" shots. Also noticeable is the lack of the crowds we see in today's footage. Lovely. Noel.

  • Thanks very much Noel, there is the odd spot still where you can escape the crowds. I have always loved the train in the landscape type of shot be it still or video so I guess it sneaks into my videos quite a lot.

  • when it rains, dig out old vids, some nice locations there mate, that doesn't go on the main line now though does it, saw sir lamiel on there, thats a bluebell loco I guess, a very nice video, thanks.

  • Thanks, I beleieve she is under repair at the Mid Hants., don't know if they intend to try to run mainline again, be nice though.

  • Wow!! Austin you are certainly digging into the archives now, that was great,i sometimes forget about the old VHS,i still have my old VHS video's, not the camera, that is well past it's sell by date LOL

  • Thanks very much John, it's surprising what you find rooting about on old videos.

  • Ta Steve, that used to be one of my favourite spots in the late '80s and '90s but I think the farmer was a bit more tolerant then. A great shame as it was a great view from there. Perhaps if we ask nicely....

  • I used to see it when it was working on the Southern, but I never knew it had got that far north. You do have an interesting back catalogue; i hope you've got lots more yet.

incidentally, who's flagged the last couple of comments as spam?

  • Thanks, not sure about the spam, maybe the posters made an error and corrected them as they have subseqently posted a comment. Not too much mainline stuff left in the back catalogue now.

  • Wonderful. I didn't know she'd been that far North. My 1993 shots at Salisbury were in Hi8 but not wide-screen. Did you crop in YT? . . . . Alan

  • Thanks Alan, a secret process involving two editing packages allows for the 'faux HD' widescreen look. (Actually saved in Corel Videostudio as 4:3 and converted with Sony Vegas to 16:9)

  • To acw71000

You must be a lot more determined than I am! My Movie-Maker stuff either saves as 4:3 (and sometimes won't) or you go without! I don't feel like coping with mastering more software (especially as we are trying to learn Welsh!!). Good on you, though - the results are very impressive. . . . Alan

  • great footage i didn't know 828 had worked on the S&C. a fav for me

  • Thanks, I was surprised to see that there wasn't much footage of her on the mainline on YouTube so decided to rectify that. She came up north to represent the Southern at the celebrations for the end of the nationalised BR so the opportunity was taken for a run over the S & C

  • Excellent video Austin - The S15 put in a sterling performance!

    Thanks for sharing!

    Mike

  • Many thanks Mike, it seems that Southern locos always do well over the S & C and this was a more than capable performance

  • Brilliant video Austin, to see old railway videos is always a pleasure. Thumbs up

  • Thanks Jon, the trouble with digging up all these old videos is that I realise how old I am getting!!

  • @acw71000 - Great archive footage. Sometimes its a damn pity that time rolls forward. There is also the famous quote; 'You're as old as the woman you feel'. read into that what you will! - Keith

  • Thanks Keith, I've read quite a lot into that thank you! Sadly we can't stop the clock ticking, best to make sure we enjoy every damned minute we have.

  • Great stuff Austin, love seeing different engines from the norm heading over the S&C =] Si

  • Thanks Simon, yes bit more variety in the good ol' days! Runpasts, a shot after Appleby, we didn't know how lucky we were!
