I think the Show Host is trying to be friendly to the child Simon but he's freaked out by Simon's joke" Put down my child!" He's afraid of insulting a child "Is it a joke? Is he insulting his aunt? Is this kid getting out of control on t.v.?" Brian's also very sure of his humor which is difficult to distinguish from rudeness, even in adults.

I'm american, we 'get ' Simon's humor, AND not all Brit's do, it's just a style of humor and a way of looking at the world.
