You're wrong, Sridevi already was a superstar in South Indian and Hindi films as she did "Julie" with Laxmi in 1975.She became superstar with the hits like Nagina,Mr.India,,Tohfa,Himatwa­la, etc.And she worked with Yashji in 1989, she was already Sridevi then, and nowadays Ash and Kareena hiked their price to more than 3 cr. ,so thats not a big deal who was highest paid..90s was Madhuri's peak thats why she was higest paid and 80s was Sridevi's peak.

Its like this. SRK vs Aamir. Aamir is the better actor yet SRK has more fans and much more awards and accolades. SRK is the superstar. Same with Madhuri vs Sri. Sri definitely is the better actor but Madhuri is the biggest superstar. All the recognition Madhuri got is not a fluke. Sri was experienced since she came before Madhuri. unlike aamir/srk, both sridevi and madhuri have been superstars - sridevi in the 1980s, madhuri in the 90s. madhuri's gr8, no doubt about it! but sridevi dominated 3-4 film industries simultaneously - hindi, telegu, tamil. probably no actress since has been more of a superstar across all of our film industries than sridevi.

Well Sridevi is linguistically enhanced so really its not Madhuri's fault also does not imply that Madhuri is any less than Sri as the outcome of Madhuri's stardom is right infront of everyone to see. Sridevi is FIVE yrs older than madhuri - naturally by late 90s sridevi's career was declining as madhuri's was peaking. by the time of DTPH, sridevi was 35, whereas madhuri was only 30. naturally madhuri was a better choice 4 the chorus-girl's role in DTPH by then.

by comparison, madhuri just put out "aaja nachle" at age 35-ish - she should have stayed home instead! sridevi made the better choice to turn down DTPH, exit gracefully, n start her family.

I saw this movie when I was really young and then it came on tv like a year ago, and all these memories flooded back. I would sing Kabhi Main Kahoon growing up w/o even knowing where it was from. I remembered some of the scenes so clearly--I knew what was going to happen and the songs despite not having watched the movie for over a decade.
