For use of thermite in cutting steel, see my video "Incendiary Experiments".
The mythbusters guys set off 1000 pounds of thermite to try to cut a car in half, and explosives experts at New Mexico Tech try to cut a column and a beam, and a Florida Engineer, Jonathan Cole, cuts columns, beams, bolt heads, and bolts.
I don't know why people go through all of the trouble of using Magnesium wire or Sparklers. Any mixture of a potassium oxidizer + sugar will easily ignite thermite.
Ah yes, I suppose that would indeed work. Well, I know the hot burning ones would such as KClO3 or 4, but I wonder if KNO3/sugar mix would be hot enough? Never tried it, but let me know if you do.

1) Hold your breath.
2) Copy all of these steps.
3) Go to two other video.
4) Paste it in the comments.
If you can do all of this without breathing you're a good pot smoker

i just use wisco fuze butt my Fe2O3/Al explodes almost like CuO/Al.
try thes: 50% CuO/Al thermite
and 50% (80% KMnO4/20% Al)
in carbord tube
max 5-10g. mixing: diper methode ONLY!

Yeah, you use fine enough Al powder and it reacts much more quickly. I've used it with some indian dark flake and it pretty much exploded as well.
I don't know that I would mix permanganate and aluminum, that seems too sketchy, haha.

kMnO4/Al is relativly safe just do not grind or mix with sulfur.
try to make 1g and test friction, heat and static ignition proppertis.
stay safe.

A fricken sparkler will do the trick!!!

So then, whats your method of igniting?
cheers

I use magnesium chips mixed with some black powder(technically green mix) and a fuse to ignite my thermite. I've never had it fail.

Nice experiment. 5 stars!
Check out my vids!!

Yeah, I still have most of the left overs from my thermite stuff, I suppose I could do a short video sometime.

you should have shown the solidified molten glass and iron

Ive heard of KMnO4 with glycerin being hot enough but sparklers and magnesium ribbon are easier to get
