If your going to buy an led tv get direct lit not edge because the LEDs dime when there's dark scenes and if it's edge lit u see half the light source in dark scenes it kinduff makes u want to go back to LCD but LEDs are really bright
it usually consist of two transistors and transformer and usually this transistors and fuse is broken (fuse needed to be replaced because when transistor brokes it make short circuit).
The hotspots are from using LED's instead of the CCF tube. Some companies use a diffuser to eliminate this problem. Where are you getting the LED strips?
If the hotspots don't extend more than 1/2 inch into the viewing area I won't bother with a diffuser. DX also known as Deal Extreme item #11303. $10.44 ea $0.01 shipping. ETA: 17 days from order date. I ordered 2 Nov 17, 2009. I use 18 feet of other LED strips in my store window instead of neon borders. $152. $0.70 per inch! A $30 12vdc 6A PS and a $30 ambulance light flasher. 2A would have been enough. For $350 I could have had a Cosmic Color Ribbon. Color and Animated!
@jsl151850b Got the LEDs. Darn bright, but useless for the LCD monitor. Too tall... Strip too wide. I substituted surface LEDs on a flexible strip. It works, but I'm disappointed about the brightness. It would be fine for subdued light, Minor light intensity variations at top and bottom. I've posted photos at flickr. Same user name. I used the bright LEDs as a kitchen counter light. Mounted with double sided foam tape. odv000: I touched up solder joints and looked for blown bits. Didn't work

Are there hotspots at top and bottom of the LCD due to the LEDs being points of light as opposed to the original CCF continuous lamps?
I'm about to try this on an HP 2007w.
I have two 50cm 12vdc 75 white LED strips on order.
There's a current limit resistor for every 3 LEDs.
I can trim it to fit as long as I cut only at the dotted lines.
I was going to use 24vdc and wire them in series.
(A leftover Mac powerbook adapter.)
I may have to add a 2 ohm 1w resistor on advice from commenters.)

Where on the LCD power board did you get 12volts?
purpulhaze 2 years ago
I used a resistor and poked it into the jack untill I found the power pin.
