had they put together a REAL team, yes, USA is BY FAR the best team in the world. these guys were just a bunch of young guys w/ no veteran leadership who never have played together. they came together under FIBA rules and made a run. greece has been together for a long time, and many of their players are on pao, olympiakos, aek, and papaloukas was on cska moscow at the team.

I think this game was the wake up call the USA needed and since this loss USA have not lost. We take competitions seriously now and respect our opponents. Greece on the other hand has kind of gone down hill since then though and need to step up especially now that diamantidis is retires (maybe he will pull a brett favre).

The best team does not always win. I believe that USA had the best team in 2006, this was shown by Greece's performance in the title game; they clearly had one great game, but one great game does not equal one great team. I agree that in 2002 and 1998 America did not have the best team. They had the best players, and should have had the best team, but basketball is a team game. I am not worried about American basketball tradition. And let's see what happens now.

had they put together a REAL team, yes, USA is BY FAR the best team in the world. these guys were just a bunch of young guys w/ no veteran leadership who never have played together. they came together under FIBA rules and made a run. greece has been together for a long time, and many of their players are on pao, olympiakos, aek, and papaloukas was on cska moscow at the team.
enter kobe amongst others, results were quite different against greece.

I think this game was the wake up call the USA needed and since this loss USA have not lost. We take competitions seriously now and respect our opponents. I believe that USA had the best team in 2006, this was shown by Greece's performance in the title game; they clearly had one great game, but one great game does not equal one great team. I agree that in 2002 and 1998 America did not have the best team. They had the best players, and should have had the best team, but basketball is a team game. I am not worried about American basketball tradition. And let's see what happens now.
