Melinda almost single-handedly turned an abysmal season 6 into must-see-TV. I have been watching this show since season 2 and have never seen another contestant deliver such consistently strong performances from week to week.
Even with all of her fame, she's so humble :) she performed for us here in Okinawa, and when we got to meet her she was extremely humble. You wouldn't have sensed the "I'm a performer, look at me" feeling. Love you Melinda! God has blessed you with a phenomenal voice! :D

just a huge performance, too big (and too good) for american idol. of all the people who ever got a raw deal on this show, she got the rawest (with carly smithson a close 2nd).
I can't hear a bum note in that and she has the ability to sing loud but not to shout like some of the others, and she doesn't do that painful warbly stuff.
I lived in Japan during this season, so I didn't catch it on TV. I only caught performances on the Internet and to this day, I still wonder why Melinda Doolittle didn't win. Who were the Top 2? A beatboxer and a singer who needs a machine to bring out her 'pop voice'. This woman is one of the very women who has ever been on American Idol who can sing WITH SOUL. Melinda Doolittle's American Idol loss definitely has to be the biggest disappointment in the entire franchise.
Yeah she was the absolute bomb and incredibly consistent. Wasn't really surprised that she didn't win but it still left a very bitter taste in my mouth. Melinda got robbed that year. I think the finals should of been her and Jordin, and she would of won. Its like what they did with the first season, even though Kelly Clarkson in my opinion was the best that year, it should of been her and Tamyra Grey. Anyone who has brains and listens to Melinda should obviously be able tell that she can easily rival Whitney from the 80s/90s. Every performance she gave was completely in tune, perfect tone, and tremendous phrasing.
I remember this SOOO well and after that dog and pony show the guys had put on the night before it was SOOOO welcome. Jordin was the "marketable" one, but far from the best - and Blake? You liked it that much? I thought she sang the songs well, but I thought some of the songs were just really, really bad. A really great producer like Clive Davis needs to get a hold of her, and then yes she could definitely become super famous.

I love Melinda, one of Idols best performers easily. It's funny, if this were on this seasons and she perofrmed this yesterday it would have completely destroyed everyone. This was her first performance live. Now compare this to last nights performances.....
Because she wasn't packageable enough. Jordin Sparks was a young beauty with a very moldable voice and a very pop style. Melinda is a grown woman with a very stylized, older-sounding voice. That's why Jordin won (which, I adore Jordin) over Melinda.
What I love about her is how pure her vocals are and how she actually enunciates every lyric without sacrificing the power. I so wish she had won ....
i really loved her and think her vocals are UNREAL and amazing however she can't compete, commercially, with the contemporary artists of today like beyonce and leona lewis!

i really loved her and think her vocals are UNREAL and amazing however she can't compete, commercially, with the contemporary artists of today like beyonce and leona lewis!

When she performed this A.F. song i was blown away by her powerful vocals she was my favorite every week she was still in the compitition. i voted for her every time she sang.she was the best i believe!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luv the *double-dutch pump before she takes the stage *(that's a jump-rope game we city-girlz play)! Randy was sooo right (did I say that?) "When ya got it, prove it! You sung...blew it out the box!" After this performance there would be no doubt: Melinda Doolittle is an 'out-the-box' lead performer! At her Street Team, we call this an example of Melinda-mite! Boom, baby! ;-)
