  • This works so well. How does she do it, actually I know how she does it; hyper talented.

    Love you Robyn.

  • amazing!

  • This is fucking great. They are not living hand to mouth no way no how. But they're talented as hell.

  • how can you not like this ?

  • Its funny cause its true, its way better than the original, white or not, you racist faggots!!!!!!

  • @StudioKristensen you call others racist, but then insult gay people, you need to watch where you step...

  • whoa i almost understand swedish = ) c'est beau

  • whoa i almost understand swedish = ) HOO

  • ...charming!...

  • um...interesting

  • Don't look at me.. i fucking love this song, and love Jenny Wilson and Robyn..

  • Two swedish women singing saul williams? HELL YEA!!!!!!!!

  • So sad people fail to see they had been programmed throughout the years by the music industry with sugar coated and overproduced tracks to ignore and hate improvisation and spontaneity. Just like the neochauvinists don't think a woman is good enough if she doesn't look like the hyper photoshop-ed frankenwomen from magazines and tv comercials.

  • @Kloneranger you're so funny. go jump under a train

  • This song is strongly political in America. When Saul Williams sings it, it is not just a love song to distant and sometimes cruel lover, but to a society where inequality still exist between white and black.

That message changes because Robyn and Wilson are removed from that specific situation. It is strange to an American ear to hear two white pop singers sing this song, which is probably the reason for more complaints than the music's quality.

  • @Dissent1: Yes, you too, you're right. - Some europeans might fail to see this dimension but many do not. The change in the message when performed by a black american is surely cognizeable; - and yes, I intentionally say "black" and do not use words like "afro-american" or so because to me this fuckin' political correctness is a form of racism as well.

Back to the music: ain't they cute how they perform this song only with piano, drum machine and handclaps? - I'm a huge fan of Jenny and Robyn!

  • I think it's pretty fucking awesome personally.

  • These two should collaborate more often.

  • No Nike, no credibility.

  • wow is saul williams really popular in sweden?

  • needs more anger...

  • wow

  • Bästa cover som gorts på List of demands fett nice full av jamming inget planerat skit Exaskt som det ska vara. Specielt efter Saul hade gort sin Afrika turne

  • They said "I tapped it to my heart, Nigger" the lyric is "I tapped it to my heart, dear girl" They must have assumed that a black man singing a song with a pseudo-Hip hop back beat would have to say the word "Nigger" at least once in his song. Kind of missing the point of the song and Saul Williams as an artist

  • @Sganarelle77 Your Wrong, she sings "Dear Girl" listen more carfully. Cheers!

  • @Sganarelle77 they said dear girl actuaally

  • This is amazing. What the fuck is everyone talking about? Seriously, why can nobody ever give something different a chance instead of all the bullshit crap in the charts? If you go at anything with an open mind, you will like it. Actually appreciate what they have just done instead of condemning it.

I for one loved it, two of my favourite artists working together :)

  • robyn look like a munter when she first starts singing. trufax

  • considering they had a short time to learn and play thier own version, its very bloddy good...i'd like to see the haters to do better!

  • Freakin cool. You girls rock. Looking up at the camera! So Abba! Ahhhh funny. Talent.

  • I don't understand where people are coming from when they say this sucks. Too entrenched in the hip-hop culture? This is great and inspiring.

  • I love this. gorgeous. both extraordinary characters.

  • This is not a "spur of the moment" kinda song as you put it though. It's been made in a certain way and it carries a message as a whole not just through it's lyrics. To give someone 30 minutes to learn it and try and make them do it is a fucking travesty

  • White people need repairations too - I've got leaks all over my roof and I could really do with insulating my roof. Still, I don't expect the government to pay for this on my behalf, nor am I going to take it out on these innocent young artistes.

  • umm... this is kind of off. not in the since that it is not as hard or that it has a lower level of production but due to who is singing it.

  • Nice oscillation of loudness, tone, speed, solo- and duet singing, like connecting the piano with the singing and then again deconnecting it by changing it's speed, loudness and rythm.

  • grat song :)

  • yes it is cool

    I live in Silesia

    In a town called Ossy

  • Simply moving...

  • Isn't this song about reparations to the African Americans? And yet two little white girls are singing it? wtf? this is just awful!

  • it's is deeper than merely that, but that is an element of the song.

  • @filpenny no you did, with your stupid comment

  • george michael song this first, hand to mouth.

  • It reminds me sesame street or something like that ahaha :P I like it! :)

  • I need to own this AUDIO! HOw can I get this?

  • This is what I heard:

It was done for a Swedish music show, counting down the best records of 2005.

Robyn and Jenny had never worked together before entering the studio, and they were asked to rehearse one of the songs on the list and perform it at the end of the show.

It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, more than anything else.

  • To all you angry, inflamed people:

    Consider this.

They had 30 min to learn it, they had not worked with eachother before and they didnt know what song they would record before they entered the studio. It was a tribute from the music-show Musikbyrån to what was considered the best song that year.

    Why be so condemned? Peace

  • @moolmi wow thats so considerate of you.

    doosh

  • @moolmi ;) I agree with you!! :) Peace! :) And merry Christmas :)

    Nina

  • masz racje, świetne.

  • No, that's what makes it great...very ironic.

  • Two Swedish girls are not singing this. One is from Nevada. Check yourself before you embarrass yourself.

  • oh yes, i'm so very fucking embarrassed. shmuck.

  • Nevada? Since when

  • Out of interest, which one is from Nevada? I was under the impression Robyn was born in Stockholm and Jenny in Blekinge, both cities in Sweden.

  • Blekinge is not a city though :) It's a county.

  • Ah, I learned something new today! Thank you. :)

  • It's cool :).

    I live in Blekinge xD

In a town called Karlskrona. :)

  • i love it

  • This is one of the best things I have ever heard. Go Jenny and Robyn! :D

  • This reminds me of those music teacher skits that Will Ferrell used to do, only these two are serious.

    Ghey!

  • what a good song!...

    what a original work

  • what tha fuck

  • what the hell is this supposed to be?

  • Simon Cowell: WTF you murdered that song.

  • GREAATTT SOOOONG, I really like it! :D

  • Känns inte i ryggen

  • not saying this is bad, but if this is considered good then anyone can be a great musician/artist. give me a record deal!

  • What is your point? You can do your music without a record deal. I like to listen this.

  • Oh dear Christ. This is beyond bad. The original is so visceral, urgent and potent but this is like something playing in a lift. It's totally soulless. I don't want to turn this into a race thing but somehow two white ladies doing a well intentioned but quite clearly limp dicked 'tribute' is misguided to say the least.

  • Aueneye makes a great point 2 white girls singing a song that really doesn't have any resemblance with them... does anyone get my point? if not fuck you. Either way they murdered the song.

  • 'if not fuck you' :D

  • he is so right you killed society

  • my grandma might enjoy this. might.. anyway personally this cover is not for me but im sure it works for some people. very talented just not the right setting for this song.

  • This has all the power of one of god's wet diapers.

  • great cover!!

    these ladies are the best

  • Golden! FFP for the win, Robyn is boss as well. Yay Swedish Fishes!!

  • I think mikeburley has some very important points. While I am not one to criticize the aesthetics of the white women's interpretation or question their "right" to cover any song they please I ~do~ think that they suck any political content out of the song. And the fact that it is posted as "List of Demands" without the subtitle "Reparations" makes it all the more devoid of meaning.

  • why does it suck any political content out?

just because they might have not been subject to racism, which saul williams likes to write about so much, doesnt mean they werent offended by it.

Just like sloucho's point about Sunday Bloody Sunday..

So fucking what if the song is about the history of violence in Ireland? Does that mean nobody else can sing about it and about how it affected people because theyre not irish?

  • It sucks the political content because the content in which Williams sings about is expressed so fiercely through the song. The fierceness is most definitely gone from the song. I am no saying that they felt strong about the song when Williams released it, but he portrayed the seriousness of the situation with the hard sounds in the song and him yelling the lyrics. This song just tones the whole message down.

  • Artists cover other people's songs because they feel that they can interpret the song in a new way (hopefully). Unless a band is playing a frat party, there is no reason for them to ape the original version note for note. Eddie Arnold and Cindy walker wrote a nice little song in the 50's about unrequited love called "You Don't Know Me." Ray Charles recorded it years later and gave the music and lyrics new layers and depths of meaning.

Also, scroll up. Does the Williams link say "reparations?"

  • Though it didn't follow the meaning of the original song (like what meantambourine said); however it sounded good. I love Robyn, I think they did a kind of "school playground" interpretation of it - it sounded well. :)

  • mikeburley,

Saul Williams did a cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2. That's a song about the history of violence in Ireland. And he made it some weird techno/rock remix devoid of the power of the original, maybe he shouldn't be doing that.

Or maybe he should, cuz it doesn't even matter, and he can cover whatever the hell he wants.

    You're an idiot.

  • well youre a sloucho

JK but what does what you said have anything to do with what I said? I see how from your post you could make the argument that these two whities can cover whatever the hell they want also, and I shouldnt be critisizing them. But you didnt really respond to what I said and didnt relate the paralell. I also dont understand how me saying that makes me an idiot. I didnt say Saul Williams was perfect and hasnt done anything stupid, I was mearly stating that these two people had.

  • Why don't you get a little more worked up about a cover song?

  • My point was that Saul Williams also did a stylistically different interpretation about a political subject he has no business singing about.

And there's no "wrong" interpretation of the song. They attempted to make it their own. Kudos to their originality.

  • this song is about reperation for slavery so it seems weird that white, artsy weirdos should be singing it.

their interpretation of the song was wrong, there is no emotion

    they're not even good singers.

  • "I got a list of demands written under this giant rock on my hand. We're livin hand to mouth?" More seriously, it's cool to see Saul Williams having a wide influence, but one has to assume that if they really respected the song they might, um, know the words. I'm just sayin . . .

  • haha, am i the only one who likes this?

  • You r not alone.

  • this is horrible!!! lol

  • gaaaaaaay

    you are

    WHITE

  • so?

they are doing a great job! Its not a complete cover of saul williams version, its their own interpretation

  • u r a racist dear sir.

  • garbage

  • wtf? why did they do this. i'd rather take a shit than to hear this

  • ahh jenny wilson is terrible! Robyn could maybe have made it a good version but shit jenny! None of them seem to know what this song is about! They are reading the lyrics and makes it a terrible pop song.

  • ahhh make it stop!!

  • worst remake video ever, i need to bust my eardrums after hearing this

  • The way Robyn speaks English is more American than British. She has the "cool/funky" aspects of black American culture, but doesn't have a real grasp on the angst that went into Saul Williams' version of this song. Jenny Wilson on the other hand has no soul whatsoever and is like an anchor around Robyn's feet in this rendition. "I aint afraid of you..." She's as bland as a mayonaise sandwich on white bread.

  • I prefer the original version, but I like the fact that they make something totally different with the cover.

  • seems abit empty

  • a great tribute to saul williams and "song of the year 2006 (?)" -List of demands!

  • mmm hmmm... i dont know.. it seems a bit faked after having listened the real List of demands by saul williams..

  • Ruined the song. =\ This is terrible with no real techno beats.

  • Quirky, but something is missing in translation. Decent cover though and Robyn is brilliant as always.

  • Nice one. Robyn's a little like Thom Yorke. She seems to be into really cool, obscure music, but produces more popular music that is suitable for airplay on the radio. But that makes me appreciate her for some reason.

  • I really try to keep my comments positive...so all I can say is that i LOVE the original Saul Williams version...

  • uhm....no

  • sorry, but i just like the original better... it seems very surreal and weird and... *shivers* idk i just didn't "get it". kinda messed up my view of a great song. *twitch*

  • I love it!

  • i think its a fun version of the song.. and its obviously not a serious gig. :)

they both have relaxed attitudes it seems...

isnt that the way its supposed to be?

  • i'm so confused.... wasn't the original song supposed to be a satire of reprimands?....

why the f*ck are two white girls singing this song...?

(...not trying to be racial or anything...)

  • It was done for a Swedish music show, counting down the best records of 2005.

Robyn and Jenny had never worked together before entering the studio, and they were asked to rehearse one of the songs on the list and perform it at the end of the show.

It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, more than anything else.

  • I don't think there's any pretenses. I think that answered your question.

  • way to kill it

  • ugh, that ruined the song for me

  • agreed

  • yep

  • This is super cool- I don't understand all the bad critic!!

  • well that was a waste of 5 minutes of my life.

  • if you want to be precise 3 minutes 13 but yeah you're right

  • They're good singers and all, but what made the song was having an angry black man screaming the lyrics.

  • TRUTH

  • HAHA listen to yourself please

  • awful cover.

  • this is a pretty badass song. i think it's a pretty good cover. way new sound to it. they almost make it their own.

  • "and when you hear this song if you ain't dead then sing along"

  • "and when you hear this song if you ain't dead then sing along"

  • cus the tv show asked them to cover one of the best songs to come out that year

  • "why would two white women cover a song talking about reperations"

pretty ignorant and possibly racist comment

  • you're the only racist here.

limiting music to a certain "race".

    shoo!

  • lol this is weird as fuck.

  • I really like both versions, sure this one is more popish, but both are great.

  • Can you love and hate this version at the same time?

  • this is really bad, even for a couple of women.

  • Holy shit. Those harlots just ruined that awesome song for me. Stick to your day jobs.

  • Wow. I mean, they have ok voices, but just not for this song.

  • They're trying, I feel that they put something into it...but it's not the same level of passion or intensity which is expressed in Saul Williams' original. Sort of like repainting Picasso.

  • IS ANYONE HEARING THE SAME THING I'M HEARING?

    THIS COVER IS TERRIBLE.

SAUL William's song has more passion, it's more real.

When they sing it, it sounds like a talent show song.

I mean, they should stick to their own original songs.

Saul Williams is epic, he's a passionate individual who can't be "covered".

    = ]

  • i know they suck

  • this is wicked, and thats totally an understatement.

  • They are simply going through the motions in this terrible cover of a truely amazing song. A monkey could do it with enough time!

Saul williams is a guiding star, set your course to him!

    [e]

  • i like the nike remix so much better!

  • The nike version wasn't a remix ;) It was the original

  • boo

  • poorly executed.

  • A for effort, but Saul made the song perfect. I can't picture it being covered by anyone and being even remotely as good as the original.

  • This was really good, but would have been amazing if Jenny Wilson had shut the fuck up. Her voice is horrible!!!!

  • That kinda sucks, considering the original track...was interesting near the end cuz of originality and good beat, but still relatively pathetic.

  • I like it a lot, covers are supposed to be different

  • The Hives' cover is the better cover of this track...but even that doesn't top the original.

  • Compared to Saul Williams' original, this is like pouring water over a roast and calling it gravy. Sorry.

  • OMG jag har letat efter den här i fucking evigheter. tack!

  • love this

  • not that great compared to saul but i areally appreciate their sincerity.
