500 years dreaming in space......did he dream of green fields, laying on the beach and rejoice in the sun, or did he dreamed of world peace or something? No. It was all about hot babes who loll around!!! Bastard!!!
Depends when you first saw this. For me it was on tv when they re-edited the opening credits and used that from the series. Who cares, it was and remains awesome. (Not sure about when they got that big phallic ship and the birdman though). Buck ruled. A re-make is a-waiting surely. They've done V, Galactica and now the A-Team. Buck next please.
My family thought it was porn. Butt Rogers. I remember the crappy lyrics but it was way better as an intsrumental especially the "booooooo" bit at the start.
A couple of points to your posting. This movie was actually released in its full version on VHS Video, I have it.
Second during all of Season 1 the lyrics sung by Kip Lennon were never sung at the end of each episode only the instrumental version of
the song was used. When the series began and NBC re-broadcast the movie as the edited two part pilot they used the original closing credits with Kip Lennon singing but all subsequent Episodes from Season One and Two only used the instrumental.

I have distinct memories of hearing that song each and every week. That would not have been possible had I just heard the song once in the theater. I wouldnt have been able to remember the lyrics so briefly.
I do know that the lyrics were not used for the syndicated era, and that might be what you're thinking of.
