  • Ehh i kind of agree... I've loved them since holy roller but the us was about 5 years and 2.5 albums too late. Came on board at the worst time and now i, like a lot of people, don't care much for what they're pumping out. Not saying i'm better for listening to them sooner or you're worse for not because you can't love/support what you don't know but it is shitty how it played out and i couldn't blame him for hating the place that didn't give a shit while in they were uk was filling up venues.

  • BE QUIET, THE KING WANTS TO HOLD A SPEECH!

  • @bonesmaan OFF WITH THEIR HEADS IN AMERICA, Caleb your a dick, arrogant ,pompus ungreatful jackass,I think your crown is a little to tight on your head,Appreciate what you have ,,,,,or had.

  • wasnt this the show where he got pissed at the fans?? so obviously he's not being serious......

  • @GG4L2727 Nah that was Reading, not Leeds.

  • I'm going to see them next month in the Boston area. I'm very excited! I love their music and I think most of them are pretty hot BUT I think it's unfortunate that I classify them in the same category as Kanye... Douche bag. It's great that theyre paying homage to the country that gave them a boost... But come on now. Every damn festival I've seen them in they've destroyed other people's property for the sake of their drinking.

  • he clearly means he's thinking of the british fans that helped to make the band as big as they are today GET OVER IT

  • Hes on about how they were bigger in england before america it was only when sex on fire came out that people with bad taste in music noticed them.

  • Caleb's only saying this because England was the place that made Kings of Leon. If it wasn't for England, Kings of Leon wouldn't be where they are right now, Jared even said so.

  • I'm from America and I have been listening to KOL since 2004! And I know Ilisten to great music! You are jusdging America as a whole and they olnly said that to get you guys to hollar and scream. Plus caleb is always drunk at shows.

  • I'm from America and I have been listening to KOL since 2004! And I know Ilisten to great music! You are jusdging America as a whole and they olnly said that to get you guys to hollar and scream. Plus caleb is always drunk at shows. So fuck off the America sucks train!

  • Haha. It's the kings speech :P

  • What about the American fans, the country of their ACTUAL origin. I love the band, but if their going to ignore the fans in America that actually do like them and wait for them to come to their home state, it just seems like a waste of time if they think that way

  • @Sk8L0ve

Their not ignoring America. It's just that us in Britain noticed them from the get go and they had really great success with albums and touring where as in America they didn't really get all that much publicity and record sales until "Only by the night".

  • Oh God, a US vs UK music debate. How scintillating, not.

  • yeah, you have the greatest bands, but also the worst taste in music.

  • "England... where the fans have been the craziest for the longest" - Nathan Followill

  • whistle fail at 1:15

  • I agree with TheRozzersTube fuck off and leave kol alone.

  • Caleb you fuckin beauty to right songs for my country you rock !!! I'm so gonna follow in your footsteps!! Peace out to you guys can't wait to see you in concert!!!!

  • got to admit i was nearly crying aswell at this, after my first key ever of mkat ha, if only you had recorded for 10 more seconds for when manhatten kicked in

  • and he wonders why people in the US don't like them and call them sellouts...asshole

  • @bobngo10 fuck off homo

  • @danh333 Your a fucking retard. 1. Nothing about him is hillbilly 2. They are not sell outs, they make the music they want to make and unlike a lot of bands don't try and recreate the same record again and again. 3. Go fuck yourself.

  • I didn't know Arizona, Manhattan, Oklahoma [slow night so long],[frontier city],[talihina sky], California [waiting] were in England

  • @McBirdec they're not but what does that prove, they're from America, so they can relate to these places

The UK has the greatest bands ever

  • @McBirdec Damn straight! they were just trying to play favors

  • @McBirdec Damn straight! they were just trying to play favors with there whiney Brit fans

  • @McBirdec He is saying that he has never written a song FOR America, not ABOUT America. Of course he would write ABOUT America, it's where they come from! He writes FOR England - not neccessarily ABOUT England (though Fans IS about England) because thats where he feels they are most appreciated.

Your understanding of what he is saying is not good - but your geography is spot on!

  • I get how he loves being appreciated in the UK,not just for Use Somebody and Sex on Fire. But honestly? Every song with UK on his mind? That's a lame thing to say.. what about all these typical southern songs and talking about West Virginia (Charmer) and everything? I don't believe he was thinking bout England when he wrote Arizona or whatever haha! I love you Caleb, but that's bs.

  • @FierySun1 I think he meant that, we made them famous and we did I suppose, if Red Morning Light didn't make it big over here, then they'd be fucked.

  • @JBForever1989 I guess so...

  • @JBForever1989 don't forget fans! is specially for england!

  • all these times up until a few months ago i thought they were from UK. Scotland to be specific. i was a little surprised when i found out they're an american band. i really did.

  • He's an idiot if he thinks being an American and having all his early experiences happen in America means he's never written about America. He's trapped here like the rest of us he's just a moron who can't hit notes live.

  • fucking hell that crowd is so shit

  • he's just pissed off that americans only know 'sex on fire' and 'use somebody', other than those songs, most people here don't know who the fuck kol is. don't even know the good songs.

  • he's just pissed that americans listen to on "use somebody' and 'sex on fire'. beyond that, the US don't know who the fuck kol is.

  • such a cheesey fucking band these days

  • bitter arrogant bastard.

  • @FadeToBlack888 WERE you a shit crowd?(no offense)

  • I'm American--let's get that out of the way immediately. I love KOL more than I've loved any other band in my life. I understand where Caleb is coming from when he speaks about America--they're still making records today beCAUSE of the UK--but the bitter attitude is no way to make fans. Caleb shouldn't forget that he IS American, not British. He and the band may owe much of their success to Britain, but America is their home. So, in some ways, his comment stings, but what I say? He's a rockstar.

  • @melovedisney1492 hes a complete twat, what do you expect, did you hear what he said to us at Reading Festival? its a parallel festival to this one at Leeds and during this part of the performance instead of telling us how he loves the uk he told us to 'fuck off' and that we're a shit crowd!

  • This band are not welcome in England ever again.

  • This band are not welcome in England ever again.

  • I first heard of KOL when Use Somebody was on the radio and i immediately loved that song. I looked them up en found out that they had made 3 more cd's, i bought all of them at the same time. Now one thing you need 2 know about me is that never really listen 2 rock, soft rock, alternative rock whatever you want to call it. But when i listen 2 there cd's, i just fell in love with these guys. Thanks guys for broadening my music taste. Srry for my sucky english, it's not my native language.

  • 'ive never written one fucking song for america' - thats why youve got songs called manhattan, arizona and california waiting, right ?

  • @130691jb For & about are very different words and have very different meanings.

  • @130691jb He didn't say he never wrote one song ABOUT America. What he said was "for." He means that when he writes the songs, he doesn't care what Americans think about the music because, frankly, we tend to have horrible taste. He writes the songs "for" other countries because they tend to embrace quality over quantity.

Almost every song he's written has been about America (except FANS). And every car he ever mentions is an American car.

  • this months Q says they only broke america with only by the night ... so he probably was just writing to break the English charts .. NOT america

  • What a pretentious, stuck up nobhead. I was there and tbh he came across as an absolute prick. Imo KOLs latest album is poor.

  • But America is just still way better than England.. ha! And now the Kings are starting to realize that and they are grateful it's finally catching on here. They are American!! I agree that England has better taste in music.. believe me I know. You also have better music festivals. But Kings will always be American!!

  • too right!

  • I was there. at the front in the middle, I caught a drum stick, awesome I loved it. If they were at Leeds this year I would've gone

  • i was there!! amazing night, fucking best night of my life

  • this was awesome

  • Stupid people shut up!

  • Mississippi (related), California, Montana, West Virgina, Arizona, Oklahoma, Talihina, Frontier City, Manhattan (north American Indian tribe) love ya Caleb but, this speech really makes me shake my head...i have heard what you say in the U.S. concerts too....just a ploy to the crowd wherever your at that night...

  • @foxyfonzie i always thought that was the case

  • @foxyfonzie He's on about he didn't write a song for America, completely different from writing a song about America.

  • @foxyfonzie you got that right it was still kinda insulting though

  • so true. Reading gave them an equally good reception. The sound was fucked up apparently. The fames gotten to their heads, sticking their finger up at paying fans.

  • Mate I know it was bad as fuck!! Still a great band but I got no respect for them after ruining my fuckin Friday :P

  • They were decent, but much much better at an arena gig. I've seen better performances than this, they sorta lacked energy. Black Thumbnail was played far too slowly.

  • They were great here - sunday was the BEST day at Leeds :D

  • although prodigy did smash it i went for KOL but prodigy did impress me with how mush the crowd went mental

  • Almost suffocated :L

  • Yeha this was supposed to be all emotional and amazing, but ...Ouch kinda didnt work, everyone just screamed after each statement.

I was so outta breath from screaming. But gotsta love the Kings!

  • I missed them but tbh I didn't really care. I was back at my camptsite stoed and pissed off my face. As he probably was when he thought this speech was a good idea.

  • i remember this is was like wow i actually love you man and then on call the begining of that song sums up the whole speech what a bloody legend

  • this was amazing me and my friends wer so outa our faces with the fesitval spirit nearli brought to tears kings of leon my be the best band i have EVER seen live what a amazin exspierience BRING ON NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

  • uur, lucas radebe murrr, SHITE

  • .........?

  • Ohhhh i remember this speech, i <3 him so much!! I wish i had of filmed it!!! fully amazing! :)

  • i always thought KOL were universal. i guess not.

  • Did he said after we made the first record, and then every song after that it was England in mind?

I guess they wanted to end the tour with on a good note.

  • i was thereeeeee!!!

  • fuck off penguin

  • i absolutely loved kol at reading i was screaming/singing my heart out :( total highlight

  • me too

gutted about his little rant :(

  • @possombabe same... why did he have to say all that stuff to us! i was singing along to all their songs :(

  • reading ... shit

    leeds ... SHITHOT!

we do it so much better! haha.

almost beefed seeing KOL. The set was amazing and this speech was amazing. Thats right fuck america! we have the better taste in music end of :)

  • @KirstyMagic18 I believe he was implying about their reception from the very beginning. Im American and I am disappointed and sick of how radio and mainstream media shows music in this country. MTV is a fucking joke. Its all about Fergie, Lil Wayne, and American Idol. UK welcomed KOL with open arms, we shat on them. You will never find real American music on American airwaves. I listen to early KOL and people don't even know it's them til I say, "you know, use somebody, sex on fire?"

  • @madpuss427 I'd forgot I wrote this comment haha i didnt realise i sounded so agressive on it lol Yeah I know what you mean, MTV over here isnt much better. KOL are an amazing band. I hate it when people only know them for sex on fire. Its like, they do have albums before that one song! jeeeeeeeezzz haha

  • haha, apparently not since you're the reason Kings of Leon existed for so long, they flopped in the states from 2002 until 2008 - the label would've dropped 'em if it wasn't for England's bad taste is sub par American music.

  • @BlakeWallington Where have the greatest bands ever (The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd) all come from? oh yeah, the UK

  • Leeds were the better crowd.. simple as. we appreciated them more.. you could hear the screaming from miles aways. and i have to agree with J0e1212 Leeds is for true rock fans! Reading as has the indie scene down, not the rock scene.

  • i went Reading sunday in 2007 and weekend since 2008 not long yeah but mate got too agree! lol i'd rather come to leeds

  • there set was amasing, im glad they played more off their older albums, coz the new ones over raited

  • Aww Caleb stop it. We all love you too!

  • A testament to just how much better Leeds is when compared to Reading. Leeds is for true music fans. Reading is for topman victims with skinny jeans, excessively long fringes and an opinion of modern music that pretty much puts panic at the disco at the top of the tree. At least one festival appreciated KOL for the geniuses they are.

  • I hate to admit it but I went to Reading this year and you are half right.I've been going to Reading since 2002 and loved every year more and more,BUT as the years have gone by,so has the musical love that Reading was originally built around.

Nowadays it is full of posh little home county fuckers whom mummy and daddy sent to Reading as a gift for getting a couple of C's at A level.

SERIOUSLY,and even Edith Bowmen mentioned that this year was by far the youngest mass crowd she had ever seen....

  • at Reading, and this is not to say that you have to be in your 50's to appreciate good music but the little fuckers nowadays haven't got a clue about well written music performed by talented bands.

I have been a fan of KOL since youth and young manhood and love 90% of their music, new and old but Caleb's outburst at Reading really put me off from wanting to see them again.

In 2005 and 2007 they did really good sets and didn't moan, would appear they are a 'lil too big for their boots now.

  • I totally get what you mean and it's sad! Its easy to lump these festivals in with the whole north/south divide thing but from my personal experience i've always enjoyed Leeds far more than Reading. And i've got to agree your entirely entitled to your opinion on KOL too even though I'd personally say the onus was more on the crowd, for whatever reason the band didn't think they were into it. Maybe a misunderstanding? Anyways thanks for a well written and considerd reply instead of a fit of rage!

  • Fuck, they were so nice to you at Leeds! Haha.

They were shit at Reading, boohoo. ):

  • kols the best thing that ever happened yeah yeah to me or the world

  • "No matter what anyone says i've never written one fucking song about america".

    When ones called manhatten?

  • haha tru dat man why the sudden love for us brits?

  • arizona and california waiting..

ah well we appreciated the sentiment

  • yeah but it's not 'for' america just about it

  • its not about new york.its about native americans.and partying.

  • he says "FOR america." and manhattan isn't about manhattan, ny.

  • a tink you are right mainstream american music sucks big time in my opinion the american maistream music right now is one of the wosrt time in history and believe me even caleb said in a intervew quote " i fell more british than american"

  • Comment removed

  • I'm from America... and mainstream American music sucks, KoL is the best thing that's happened to popular American music since the fucking sixties... their comment about America doesn't offend me at all.

  • i think your very much right bananaknox. i myself am from america and i think KOL is the best thing since led zeppelin. its funny how led was from england and america loved them and how KOL is from america and england loves them. they are the greatest band in my opinion. pure talent.

  • you share my feelings exactly jimmy! :)

  • @jimmyrasta007 That is fucking disrespectful. Do you know anything about rock history or what Led Zeppelin has meant to music? Pagey, JPJ, Bonzo and Plant are soooooooo far beyond KOL it's incomprehensible that you would even mention them in the same comment. I feel bad even commenting on it but it needs to be addressed. KOL suck dick big time! They have absolutley no talent whatsoever and yet you compare them to the most talented band of all time. Fuck you! Go kill yourself. NOW!!!!!!!!

  • @kylekylelewis

Nice work mate. See, public forums are great!

Everyones opinion gets heard. And it's so funny that you've just proved everyone right.

I'm from australia. Everyone thinks were drunk and we all own kangaroos and what not. I know it's not true. But if anyone pays me out. I take it.

Look mate. What i'm trying to say is. Just settle down.

Bands in the old days are going to be the best.

But other people's opinions are important too.

So let them be heard. And stop bashing.

    Thanks.

  • @hobeybennett how the fuck can you get drunk on weak ass shit beer you guys drink.

  • your right.i blame the television and all those radio stations in america for playing crappy music. i cant stand all those pop stars who cant sing and all they want is money. they dont enjoy music like kol does. i say get rid of them all.

  • @bananaknox55 i hate the fact that im from a america just because we never really embraced the greatness that is KOL until now....and they totally deserved it from the very beginning..their music is pure genius...i love them to death

  • @mukmuk93 hahahahahahahahahahahahahah....hhahahahahahahahaha....hahahahahahah...KOL genius? WTF? Are you retarded? Dude, hate to break it to you but they suck a big fat cock.

  • @bananaknox55 amen me too man.

  • tribal war wash ur mouth out talking shit. leeds rocked i wasnt at reading so cant comment on that but think kol proved how shit ur support was.

  • atleast Frank Turner said that we were better than Leeds ;)

  • caleb is a better man than you will ever be. hes accomplished alot, what have you done

  • Well i own my own company have two houses and 3 cars how about you? eh? eh? .... yea maybe not as good as the douch but if i had that amount of success i sure as hell wouldnt be moaning to my fans. i would have some respect for them as they are the ones who made me rich and famous so shut up mate (y)

  • @jimmyrasta007 why don't you pull his cock out of your ass and buy a pair.

  • Ive been to Reading, Leeds, Glastonbury, but TinthePark is by farrrrr the best :D!!

  • readings full of poofy southerners who couldnt stand the cold !!!! LEEDS NO. 1

  • na mate you northern monkeys cant party for shit, iv been to both festivals and reading was by far the best

  • If it wasn't for poofy southerners there would be no festivals to go to.

  • stupid generalisation

  • they dont call it northern soul for nothing you arragant twat

  • Reading deserves better than KOL.

  • I love Kings of Leon, and musically they were spot on at reading, but for they got 2 things very wrong. 1- Their opening was poor, Be Somebody and My Party, although both are great songs, are weak opening tracks, closer and crawl was an infinately better choice (Isnt that what they played at Leeds?) . 2) They need to realise that at a festival people are always gonna go for their biggest songs (i.e Sex on Fire and Use Somebody), hence the point of a festival, its not their own gig. x

  • ...no wonder Caleb doesn't talk much during shows.

    He's an asshole...

this is hard saying this seeing as how they're my favorite band besides the Strokes, but shit. Caleb needs to humble himself a little.

  • humble? he's in one of the biggest bands in the world, why should he have to be boring and humble? let him enjoy his fame for christ sake!

  • what the fuck are you talking about?

who said anything about boring? Humble and boring are two different things. Look at Jules from the Strokes. He's possibly the greatest frontman since Jim Morrison. He opened the door for the Kings as well as many other bands, and he doesn't go on dickish rants like this.

    idiot.

  • my point is, they've become global superstars since the last album came out, so I'm sure we can all forgive him for blowing his own trumpet a little bit.

I'm sure if you were in a band as big as KOL you might just be a little bit pleased with yourself, so cut caleb some slack you stupid dick

  • @seanlufc10 He doesn't need to bash America. The land that gave him the freedom to be a faggot who writes shitty music. I hope their tour bus breaks down in the country and a bunch of racist ass hillybillies make him squeel like a pig. Better yet I hope he gets gang banged by a bunch of crips out in east LA. Fucking twat.

  • @kylekylelewis HELL YEAH!!!

  • Gave me fuckin SHIVERS.

  • caleb (L)

    reading festival doesn't deserve music.

  • i was at reading, and the crowd was amazing and no different from their other live shows ive seen. so when Caleb opened his mouth to rant i was glad the rest of the set got such a bad response. KOL pushed for sex on fire and use somebody to be played again and again on the radio, so when people pay good money to see them play, even when they only know those 2 songs, they deserve the respect of KOL as the money generated from those 2 songs has put they where they are today.

  • kkkkkkkkkk..."i haven't written one f* song for america!!!!"...ok, I love KoL but if America doesn't treat them with the respect they deserve, I don't get why they still go to those stupid MTV awards. They performed at at MTV Movie Awards for people who don't appreciate them as much and they went to the VMA and it wasn't even mentioned they were there. Seriously, I think they should stand up to America because they are too good to beg for appreciation. They don't need that. And MTV sucks!

  • they were at the vma? i was wondering that, but just thought that they didnt go. thats proof how in america they just through you to the curb as quickly as they accept u.

  • I belive every word he is saying :D i was there loved it!

  • i agree this is BS, I think Kol have lost alot of credibility with their 'diva' attitudes. Hanging out with Bono was the worst thing for an impressionable younger Caleb. Success really has gone to their heads, suppose i'd be trying to defend myself all the time if i wrote crap songs nowadays like Sex on fire!

  • Bunch of fruit bags

  • Am i the only one who thinks this is a huge load of fake bullshit of a speech after Reading?

  • Nah my opinion i watched KoL at Reading to me they were shit

  • best british band to come from america haha!

  • I been doing reading since 96 and every year the crowds get calmer. Done leeds last 2 years now and never looked back. The festival goers down south are spoilt with all the gigs in london. Up north the fans are still up for it. Sorry to say this as I am a southerner but fact is fact.

  • i was there. can someone tell me what happened at reading festival. i heard they walked off half way cos the crowd was shit or sumint.

    they were amazing!

  • well, i heard that at reading the billy talent fans started chanting "FUCK KINGS OF LEON", so they left the stage. But if he cant accept criticism he shouldnt be in the music buisness :D

  • READING SUCKS COCK. If you went to Reading you must be so pissed off that we got an epic gig. Unlucky you rich kids ha ha ha ha

  • what

  • READING SUCKS COCK

  • Doing Britain proud
